Back to the starting point of assessing the big picture, the broad horizon....once enough data is retrieved from the rapidly changing environment, the brain internalizes the data, discards the invalid data (noted as a distraction), then narrowly focuses on the data to rehearse it, then it can move on to the performance. If the brain rushes through any of this split second processing, it can make a mistake/error.
I believe this flow of concentration, that is presented in the textbook as a square, is actually a sphere much like an eyeball. It’s an eye of the mind or mind’s eye. At the center of the cross hairs is a narrow circle. This is “in the moment” and the circle around this “centered” point is a prioritization ring or loop that

The focus loop provides continuous monitoring of all concentration zones. In the center of the loop is “in the moment, here and now”. This is where I want to be when I’m intentionally engaged in an action-oriented task such as sport climbing. In this example, the focus is parked in a neutral zone giving all four zones equal attention. This is basically a “flow” type state where the brain has complete coverage of all concentration zones. It’s like most of the climber’s thought processes are autonomic like their heart beat. Everything is in synch. The climber is able to see the “big picture” assessment to include the environment such as the current weather conditions and their though on a forecast for the climb. They are also able to monitor the game plan or the route for the climb to include obstacles and overhangs that potentially could be challenging. They are able to monitoring their energy levels and determine when and where to take a rest and allow their phosphocreatine system to recover. When monitoring the climber’s narrow internal view, he is conducting body scans to adjust arousal and breathing rates and progressive muscle relaxation to decrease tension. His skill and technique are all flowing automatically. He is able to stay ahead of his body and the mountain with full control. In the external and narrow zone, the climber is engaged in action with intentional and smooth placement of their hands and feet with perfect balance to keep their energy levels high and decrease any unnecessary moves that could deplete
One aspect of cognition that differs in elite and less skilled athletes is an attentional focus. Numerous studies have demonstrated that during a performance, skilled players direct their attention on their movements’ outcomes ( an external focus of attention) whereas less skilled players orient their attention on their body movements ( an internal focus of attention). This differing role of attention in athletes is explained within the automatization thesis (Bernstein, 1996), according to which experts have highly automatic motor skills due to continuous practice, thus focusing on the movements’ outcomes promotes a more automatic control which leads to efficient movements and high performance. Conversely, the motor
Attention is thought to be selective-focused on one subject at a time. Traditionally, it has been assumed that automatic processing is involuntary, it does not require attention, and is relatively fast; whereas, controlled processing is voluntary, does require attention, and is relatively slow. We can conclude from this that the more we repeat a certain material or tasks the more it becomes automatic and effortless to us.
Anchoring bias: a tendency to fixate on initial info, from which we can then fail to adequately adjust for subsequent information.
This was achieved by presenting central cues, indicating the position of the target letter thus increasing focus. Through these experiments they found that when a subject is in a diffuse attention state (unfocussed) SOD do cause attentional capture and increase reaction time. However, if the subject was presented with a cue this same increase in reaction time was not observed. This led them to conclude that attentional capture from SOD is not automatic and instead propose a priority based visual attention system. In 2006 Neo and Chua conducted research which built upon Yantis and Jonides’ to further demonstrate effects of attentional capture on reaction time. They investigated whether sporadic use of the SOD increased the effect of attentional capture as well as investigated whether maintaining the same position for the target letter decreased reaction times. They found that SOD attentional capture did affect reaction times and unlike in Yantis and Jonides’ experiment they concluded SOD did trigger an automaticity response when used
Once our brain starts to concentrate on a certain task you start to make errors. The author talks about how it’s easier to perform a task without thinking about it. Your brain is too concentrated in perfection and a part of your mind is afraid to mess it up, it keeps telling you to try
It’s ENC 1101, Not knowing what to expect I entered the room with absolute fear, after all it was my first year of college. Although I’ve never been quite fond of English in the past, I’ve always excelled in the subject. I had yet to work for my grade and no English course I had taken proved to be a challenge through my eyes. I am a huge procrastinator, if not one of the biggest when it comes to assignments. I most likely wrote papers the night before or the day of and still managed to average an “A” on all of them. This bad habit led me to believe that I was cheating myself. Throughout my scholastic years I always had the mentality of asking “what could this class possibly teach me that I didn’t already know?” I believed that my writing
ou had the key to a whole new world, would you take it? That key is reading and writing, and it is within your grasp and mine. English ¾ Accelerated is a class I have decided to enroll in due to the many things I could accomplish here.
The findings of this study could be applied to individuals who are looking to increase performance after a plateau. The second article adds that when you visualize the context of the skill with various changes you can increase performance. When applied to open skills, mental practice could possibly allow for the person to improve adaptation when various environmental uncertainties arise. The last article shows that in closed skills such as keyboard typing, mental practice can solidify the content in a way that makes the movement more effortless. I can see this idea being useful in the theatrical setting, being used by actors to practice lines or movements that they are learning for a production. All examined articles seem to come to a similar consensus, that mental practice is a viable tool used in a variety of
There are many different skills that are important in a college level writing and mastering each skill takes time and hard work. In response to a survey about writing in college that I distributed to students in college, I was able to see that more than 80% of the participants thought Using Appropriate Language was important. For a large number to believe that using appropriate language is important for college level writing shows why more students should focus on language when writing. Many people might believe that appropriate language is less important than critical thinking and other college level criterias. I on the other hand believe that appropriate language should be focused on more, because not only are you reaching your audience,
Five, nine we're all familiar with a frame feeling that is without delay linked to something that has occurred in our lives: "butterflies" for your stomach earlier than a performance evaluation, a worrying feeling on your throat whilst you need to percentage hard news with a patient. Focusing includes spending time with a physical sensation that is not yet clean, and can't but virtually be placed into phrases, but which you may quite feel has a connection to some difficulty or occasion for your lifestyles. It includes turning into a chum to your own internal experience. 1 The process of Focusing permits humans to correctly talk with themselves - that is, to gain a deeper and extra significant knowledge of what they may be feeling inside the second. Five, 1,
Our results was that milk molded the fastest. We found out that milk contains acid, catalyst of decomposition. At the second day the milk was a little lumpy and soured. The cheese was the second in molding the fastest. At the third day the edges of the cheese were kind of black which means it had a little bit mold. As we can see that the first and second both had to be refrigerated. The banana was the third in molding the fastest. At the third day the banana got kind of black. The bread did not mold at all making it the last one to mold the fastest.
My experiences as a Program Assistant in different organizations, has allowed me to gain skills in customer service, project management and administrative support. In the past years I have learned to build relationships and attending concerns of a diverse audience from students, community members, and kitchen staff has helped me better connect more effectively with people. I know my diverse skills and qualifications will make me a great asset in moving Imperfect Produce initiative forward by connecting with costumers and ensuring they are being heard and taken care of.
When one decide to give their attention on something, he/she are still aware of their own decision and while doing so him/her usually still have a good chance of losing their own focus. However, being in Zone makes one completely engrossed with the task without making
