During the puritan period of Cromwell's protectorate there was pressure on any kind of sport as the authorities and church favoured people to respect rather than play the sport. In 1660 king Charles II resurrected sports for example tennis, yachting and hunting grew in approval, but for the rich they followed and worshiped these sports such as cricket, skating and also fishing. Cricket was born in the early 1700s and by the mid century country matches were not unusual.
