Every athlete experiences at least one injury, from something as little as a pulled muscle to something as serious to a ligament tear. As a result of sports injuries, many star players have been sitting on the bench rather than getting into the game. A solution to this problem is a sports injury prevention program. Sports injury prevention programs have many beneficial effects on athletes, both mentally and physically. Sports injury prevention is a program that will help educate students about how to take care of their bodies, reduce injuries, and keeping not only themselves but others safe while playing sports. Sports injury prevention programs should be incorporate in training because they are important not only for athletes but for coaches …show more content…
One way that the body can be affected by infection is muscles weakness. The muscles become weak because they are not getting the energy and nutrients needed to keep the athlete healthy. Another way that infections can affect the body, is when they cause decreased flow of fluids to the body. This may cause athletes to feel dehydrated or light headed while performing sports. The importance of learning about personal hygiene because will stop the spread of bacteria, especially in contact sports. What students should learn about in sports personal hygiene is to not share towels, razors, water bottles, and equipment with each other. This can spread infections. Some ways to prevent infections are practicing to wash hands frequently and thoroughly and taking care of the skin by taking showers daily to prevent skin infections. In sports, skin infections are spread first by skin injuries, such as chafing, turf burns, and abrasions. When not properly taken care of, the injury can get infected and turn into skin infections. When teammates (especially in contact sports) touch the skin injury, bacteria gets passed around which then spread the infections to other athletes, the same skin injury. This is why athletes must make sure to have good personal hygiene is a part of their plans to keep
Throughout the states, questions and doubts about players safety have arisen. Despite the worries, statistics show the amount of injuries are not abundant enough to call out football as “Too Dangerous”. According to the study, published in the August 2007 issue of The American Journal of Sports Medicine, four out of every 1,000 high school football exposures resulted in an injury. The most common injuries were knee and or ankle related, stating also how the position in which most of these injuries occur were to running backs and to linebackers. “While football does have a high rate of injuries, injuries don’t have to be just part of the game,” said Christy Collins, MA, research associate in CIRP at Children’s Hospital and co-author of the study. “There are ways to reduce the number and severity of football injuries
Athletics play an immense role in the lives of youth, whether they play with friends for fun or in team competition as student athletes. Regular physical activity helps build and maintain bone and muscle health, helps reduce the risk of developing obesity, and promotes psychological well-being (U.S. Dept.). Public health programs promote the benefits of physical activity, but those benefits are reduced by the possibility of injury (CDC, 2). The participation in athletic sports outweigh the potential of sustaining a concussion.
According to the National Federation of State High School Associations studying in California, “1.5 million preadolescent and adolescent boys participate in high school football” (qtd. “Injuries”). That is a lot of students at risk for injury while playing high school sports. In the two seasons of high school football seasons observed in California, “players sustained 25.5 injuries per 100 players” (“Injuries”). With all those injuries, students are likely out of the game and are possibly hampered in other parts of their life, adjusting to their injury. With these injuries on young bodies, they can cause many problems in the future. The issue of injuries to students participating in high school sports cannot be ignored.
If you or anyone close to you plays sports, you know that injuries happen very often. In high school athletics, there are approximately 2,000,000 injuries, 500,000 doctor visits, and 30,000 hospitalizations each year. I have chosen to pursue a career as an athletic trainer because I have played baseball for the past 14 years and I have seen many of the common injuries that athletes sustain. There are many pros and cons of working in this field. In this speech I will bring some of them to your attention.
College athletes have worked both on the field and in school for decades for a chance to go pro. Athletes risk their careers for an education in the long run for a hope at getting a deal in a pro league or scoring an education. Athletes know the risk of playing the sport but love the activity enough to stay throughout the years. Playing a college sport is a way for students to receive educations or to be able to go pro in the end or even do both. Over years, players have become successful but some were not so fortunate after injuries that left them unable to play. Students know risk of playing a sport from the time they first start playing the sport. From 1988 through 2004, there were 200,000 injury reports, this data includes when an athlete misses a day or more of practice or competition, which
According to yard house from “ A comparison of high school sport injury surveillance data reporting by certified athletic trainer and coaches”, “High school athletes sustain more than 1.4 million injuries annually”. Many of these injuries are caused because public high school do not provide enough professional care for athletes. Some of the reasons that athletes are not provided with right care is because of insurance, proper equipment and educated professionals to treat injuries.
Many people believe that concussions are just a head injury that causes headaches, but it’s more than that, so much more than that! In my recent research over Concussions, more importantly, concussions due to sports related occurrences, and the side effects.
In sports, the probability of getting an injury is very high. Players don’t even have to try and may get severely hurt. Some teammates and coaches say that the players just need to be more careful and watch their surroundings more intently. But, players have to be continuously aware of their surroundings to keep themselves from getting hurt by others, much less self-inflicted injuries. Mark Hyman and Nathan Pitcock, writers from The New York Times, write “Half of all sports injuries among kids each year are caused by simple overuse… injuries-stress fractures, ruptured ligaments, and growth plate injuries- can be quite serious, and many can cause lifelong problems” (Pitcock, Hyman 1). These injuries are all very common with today’s youth. The lifelong injuries are not worth the risk of playing one more game. If players really want to avoid self-afflicted injuries, they should prepare themselves for the sport year around so that they are conditioned for the next season, but players should play more than one sport to cross-train and avoid overuse of specific bones and
Sports are full of injuries. Some are life changing, some are temporary. Everyone loves sports though. Especially full contact sports such as football. Football causes the most concussions than any other
Injuries will occur, no matter the sport. The type of injury to occur depends on the gender of the player. Often, when players become injured, they are in denial about the repercussions of their injury and usually have a loss in confidence. Repercussions can tragically be career ending, long term or luckily short term. Understanding the injury and it’s impact on a player is important, however, knowing how to prevent the injury is more important.
The main research of this paper is Sports injuries. Sport injuries are very common in the modern world and it has severe effects in the life of athletes. Injuries related to sport can lead to loss of life, body parts or career depending on the severity of the accident. Sport injuries have several negative impacts on the physical, mental, social ability of athletes. To accomplish the paper appropriately some real-life examples have been included in this research, for illustration. For better understanding of the rise of the sports related injuries, a graph has been mentioned that shows the difference between the numbers of sports injuries recently compared to 2004. Finally the research paper has been concluded by proving that
This paper focuses on the prevention and treatment of injuries in basketball. This paper explores the basic concepts of preventing injuries and the different methods to treat injuries that occur as a result of playing basketball. There are a variety of preventive measures to limit injuries at recreational, collegiate and professional levels of playing basketball. This paper will elaborate on specific approaches to injury prevention for each circumstance. Depending on the duration and intensity of play many contributing factors play a role in the prescribed treatment of basketball injuries. This paper will examine the different types of treatment available and the major factors that are considered based on case by case basis. Basketball is an enjoyable sport with the risk of minor and major injury. This paper will give insight into those injuries and remedies to treat and prevent them.
In the U.S there are thirty million or more children/teens that participate in sports. Out of the 30 million children/teens that participate in sports, 3.5 million of those children/teens get injured each year.
In sports, especially professional sports injury is a great possibly, and a common and very serious injury is plaguing all sports. The concussion is that injury. And over the past few years the NHL and other leagues or trying to crack down on concussions; but those are only partial solutions. In hockey concussions, can come from anything and happen at any time. Thus, proposing a solution or a way to prevent them, is very difficult. As per a study that took place from 1997-2004, results published in 2011 by CTV, states “With averages ranging from 4.6 to 7.7 concussions per 100 NHL players per season, it’s likely that each of the 30 teams in the league will see at least one or two players miss time due to a concussion every year” (Tahirali). Thusly supporting how many players received concussions, even if this study is older. Many people are fighting to get the game changed to combat concussions, and just as many fight to not change the game; although they still do not want concussions.
Injuries play a big role in an athlete's career and his or her overall health, although minor injuries are often nothing to worry about they can lead to something serious especially if the injury is repeatedly being aggravated. scrapes, cuts, bruises, and broken bones are all things to worry about. When a player is injured he or she is losing play time and money and why risk this when there is small but giant steps that can be taken to prevent injuries. But brain injuries are something much more serious even if the player says not to worry because something worse than losing playtime is losing your life. Albert C. hergenroeder has written an article on preventing sports injuries, he says that there are 3 million sports injuries among kids around
