Spring Break Case Study

In order to accommodate the year round calendar, there are several forms of year round education. The first form follows a single track calendar. This is the most popular type of calendar (Shields, 2000). A single track year is usually implemented to “provide a more balanced and enriched education program or to accommodate the special scheduling needs of a community” (Glines, 2002, 2699). A single track calendar takes on a 45/15 design. This is where students go to school for forty-five days in a row, and then have a fifteen day break. It is a continuous cycle. Schools usually begin in early August, and follow this pattern four times to complete the school year (Glines, 2002). The three week break in between is called an intersession. During this time, students can choose to take additional educational courses through “remedial,

Spring break is supposed to be one of the happiest times of the year: families go on vacation, students and employees can finally relax after months of hard work, and the horrible cold months are finally turning into beautiful, lively new ones. This is how most people would describe spring break, but for me and my family in April of 2010, this was not the case.

This spring break was a very important because I was leaving for Chicago. First we went to the Peoria. We arrive at the Peoria airport and we are the only people there until we get to our gate and see at least 70-80 people. It’s gonna be a long flight. We arrive at the O’hare airport and we are late, my parents are freaking out, we have to be in a sports facility that is, over thirty minutes away and we have to be there in twenty. I learned a valuable life lesson that day, and that is to never procrastinate when something very important is present in your life. Me and my parents made that mistake and it will up hurting us in the future.

During spring break I am looking forward to going to Florida. I am looking forward to going to Florida because I cannot wait to get in the ocean and on the beach. Also I am looking forward to getting to sleep in and not have to go to school. Also in Florida I am looking forward to hanging out with some friends from other schools. Something else I am looking forward to is being in the warm and in the pool. I also cannot wait to get tanner than I already am because I seem pale compared to what I normally look like. This is because of the overwhelming amount of snow days during this harsh winter, and this has impacted the students’ education.The District is required to make up the first six (6) schools days lost or canceled due to inclement weather and half the number of days lost or canceled in excess of six (6) days. For purposes of this Policy, “inclement weather” means ice, snow, extreme cold, flooding or a tornado, but not excessive heat. (Policy 1210). It's very similar to any summer camp,they are numerous games and challenges for the kids. My 2018 Spring Break was better than usual and began with a great start. For this Spring Break, I went on a Road Trip to visit different college campuses on the northern side of California, a place I had never been to. I went with my program called, LACC Upward Bound that included 34 other students. I did not attend this trip alone and this was great because my friends got to come along on this great experience with me. Arriving to Northern California took about 4- 5 hours and during this drive I took this picture. It is so different from Los Angeles, everything is much greener, beautiful and natural. There are various forms of YRS that can be implemented into the school systems. Each type differentiates from the other which is why before choosing a YRS program the schools should take some time and research each one and decide which model would best fit their school. The most basic forms that seem to be used more commonly in the United States are the single-track calendar and the multi-track calendar.

What did I do over winter break? I did so many fun things these past two weeks. I went to the mall with my friend, then he came over to my house, and he gave me a Christmas present.

Spring break was for an adventure for me. I did lots of stuff from playing games and watching netflix to camping and exploring. On my first few days of spring break, I just slept in and watched netflix. I personally liked how it started out, i wasn't waking up tired and i was at full power when i woke up. The shows i watched on netflix where walking dead and the OA. Later on in the break i decided to rewatch all the Harry Potter movies and that was one of my favorite part of the break. It took me about 2 to 3 days to watch all 8 movies. After Harry Potter I watched other movies but i mostly Played games like Rocket League and Fortnite. On the last week of spring break i planed last minute camping and sleeping over with my friends in the backyard.

Though it may seem that the large quantity of college students vacationing in a town for spring break would stimulate the economy and bring in revenue, the assumption is distorted. College students are broke and survive only on necessity goods, rather than luxury goods. In other words, they will pay for cheap motel rooms and bad beer, rather than purchasing fancy hotel rooms and expensive alcohol. Furthermore, college students have little income, so they cannot afford to buy souvenirs, seafood dinners, and participate in activities such as parasailing, compared to the families that vacation in the summer months.

Each Spring Break, students flock to their favorite destination place or plan a tropical getaway to enjoy a break from winter storms, school works- midterms & papers. While some students may spend their time off relaxing with Netflix, or catching up on sleep or games, while others may take a more alternative route to the traditional Mercy spring break. I was one among them who decided to participate campus ministry’s 2016 Alternative spring break- Savannah, Georgia.

During winter break, I didn't do a lot of things although I did spend my time wisely enough to do the things that I was planned to do during the break. Most of the time that I have was for family, and some extra time for games. Since my older brother came back one week before my final, I did have a lot of times having fun with him and my parent. My older brother did stayed with me the whole break, and he left on Saturday to go back to UCLA, which was two days before I came back to school. I think that my break was great, and I didn't do a lot of things, but I think that I did achieve all of my goals for the winter break. Paula signed up for summer school classes for two reasons; first, she would have something to do, and add to her credits. Secondly, if Miguel was able to transfer to day school they could take a course together or at least have the right place to meet.
