Stakeholders Are A Big Part Of A Healthcare Organization

This paper examines how organisational values and stakeholder engagement can improve patient quality, experience and care. The author will do this by exploring what stakeholder engagement is and how it is being used in the healthcare arena to improve care quality and patient experience. The author’s critical analysis will discuss the relationship between organisational values, stakeholder engagement and the delivery of quality patient care, before relating this to his professional practice, prior to drawing and presenting conclusions.

Partners HealthCare is a non-profit, health system located in Boston that created a data based transformation (Davenport, 2013). It integrated a new system that aligned the participating organizations to cohesively run as one and to help shape the future of the organization. The system didn’t stop there as it was responsible for bettering the patient financing experience and the delivery of healthcare information to other organizations (Davenport, 2013). The initial goal of the organization was making patient care more affordable and accountable by providing integrated, evidence based, patient-oriented care.

The judiciary, executive, legislature, at both state and federal levels, are the three branches of government primarily responsible for the formulation of healthcare policies in the United States. There are other non-governmental organizations such as professional and ethics bodies that provide rules and guidelines in some health care policies.

Even though the United States does not contain a central controlled system of health care, the federal, state and local governments have all been involved in health care and health policy. There are many people who have a stake in the healthcare industry. There are several stakeholders such as the patients, healthcare providers, insurance companies, organizations, and those who enforce policy. The patients’ interest is the need of the best healthcare procedure to be healthy. As a healthcare provider the quality of care that can be useful for patients. Insurance companies sells health insurance to patients or employer that can be beneficial to providers. Organizations develop plans that are used for patients. Policymakers create and implement laws that to improve quality care to the public. These stakeholders can play a major role in the safety concern of patients. A stakeholder are people or groups that have an investment in the patient evidence based healthcare decisions (Agency for Healthcare Research and quality, 2015). In this case, already listed is the patient and the physician but Medicaid is a stakeholder as well. The stake for Medicaid is being the insurer this tells the patient where he can and cannot get treatment. It also set the type of treatment is covered. According to AHRQ, the local clinic is also a stakeholder. The facility has made the decision on what kind of insurance to utilize which was not Medicaid cause the patient to be denied access to care. The healthcare industry is a also listed as a stakeholder especially in reference to manfacture for treatment. The manufacture is the expert when it comes to how to administer treatment and how to operate the device they made. Policy makers also have a stake in the patient healthcare utilization . In this instance the lawmakers had to set policy who was eligible for Medicaid.These few factors have impacted the patient tremendously.

It has been proven that stakeholders, either an individual or an health care organization play a key role within strategic implementations and policy developments

Health care stakeholders are individuals, groups, organizations or institutes that may affect or can be affected by the health-care providers in one way or another. Their effect on the healthcare depends on their views, interests, and contributions which differ from one stakeholder to the other. Therefore, this paper will dwell on analyzing about the stakeholders in the healthcare and their communication strategy. Some of the major stakeholders in Healthcare include; the public, the National Government, the healthcare professionals, the pharmaceutical industries among others (Hammer, 2016). To provide good, more efficient and better health-care services, these stakeholders must collaborate and communicate strategically to meet the set goals in the health sector.

When talking about healthcare reform, one must always think about the stakeholders. Stakeholders are “people and organizations that have a stake (interest) in what a healthcare organization does and that could affect the healthcare organization” (Olden, 2011). There are many different stakeholders in our case study but we will focus on the main ones.

The public is the major healthcare stakeholder merely because people within this group usually share the same views on health care; they are the ones utilizing the services and can demand for quality service and reasonable healthcare prices, and cries for policy changes from health care providers and governing bodying such as health organization and government

Public health power influences are constantly growing. During the twentieth century majority of the expansion happened for public health power, because of the federal government’s position in primarily focusing on protecting the public in food and drug safety, environmental protection, and occupational health and safety, and many others. The Federal government influence stretched higher levels when the federal government purchase a major part of personal health care services through the Medicare and Medicaid titles of the Social Security Act after 1965 (Turnock & Atchison, 2002).

The concept of governance within a health care organization must be well design and welcome cooperation (Berger, S. (2011). When those that make policies can understand how to apply cooperative regulatory structure in healthcare setting it is noted that self-interest is not the only way of motivating positive behavior. The concept of governance spells out who is responsible for ensuring and providing support and services to all members needing health resources (Berger, S. (2011).

Primary stakeholders are those people who are active members of the Healthcare Group such as board of directors, functional members, shareholders, patient, senior manager and employees. For the success of a Healthcare organization, management of the stakeholders is an important step.
