Over the past six years I have worked with Planned Parenthood of Central and Western New York in Patient Services. Working with this organization has given me an excellent foundation in healthcare management and operations. I work directly with our Medical Leadership Team; which consists of our Vice President/Chief Operating Officer, Medical Director, Director of Patient Service, and Director of Compliance, Quality and Risk Management. Together we enact changes throughout all eleven of our affiliate health centers, while constantly monitoring efficiencies and industry standards in order to maintain best practices. Working with this dynamic team has provided me the opportunity to learn both basic and advanced healthcare applications, as …show more content…
New York is currently experiencing an exciting shift in the way services are provided throughout the state. As of January 2015, the Healthcare Modernization Act has been implemented, allowing Nurse Practitioners to open their own practices and provide services independently. My plan is to finish this program and work towards a career as a consultant for practices like these and others; looking to work on strategic plans, change management goals, and overall operational management …show more content…
The Medical Leadership Team I work with, as well as my partner who is an emergency room nurse, have all supported me throughout this journey. In fact, when I first went back to school in 2013, I did so with the intent of obtaining a BSN. As I was taking the prerequisites courses, although I found the coursework to be incredibly interesting and challenging, I continued to feel more of a pull towards healthcare operations and administration. My partner and work team supported my decision to shift course and encouraged me to apply for this program, believing as I do that this will be a better fit for someone with my work history and
After I am finished with my education, I see myself in a career in public health, specifically as a HIV/AIDS Research Associate or an International NGO Aid Worker.
When challenged as to why I would want to pursue a career in medicine, my response includes an acknowledgement of the realities of an intensely stressful and academically rigorous profession, but also a recognition of the rewards that come with having the ability to make a real difference to peoples’ lives. We depend on medicine in our weakest times and seek strength in those who dedicate themselves to research, prevention and treatment and I believe I have both the compassion and motivation to make a positive contribution.
It’s truly a blessing to be a part of such a great profession. Where you are lifted up by your fellow nurses during times of happiness and distress. Working as a licensed practical nurse has allowed me the opportunity to impact patients’ lives in positive ways. When people enter my health care facility for care, they have certain expectations, they are not always at their best and need the best level of care to help them achieve their prior level of function. After nine and a half years of working as a licensed practical nurse, I decided that it was time to pursue a RN degree. Although, I have enjoyed my career as a LPN I understand that the scope of it is not as wide as that of an RN. I am choosing the pursue an RN because I want to not only enrich my life but I also want to provide a higher quality of care for my
In conclusion, to transform the United States healthcare system contributions must be provided by the nursing profession. The changes will require implementation of the described IOM goals of transforming nursing education, nursing practice and nursing leadership. I believe the process of change to the nursing profession has already began as many of my nursing colleagues have begun to return to school to complete their Baccalaureate degrees (BSN). I personally will be meeting the goals set forth by the IOM. I will do so by improving my nursing practice with continuing my education and completing my BSN. I will also improve my nursing bedside practice and possibly step into nursing leaderships roles. By November 2015 I plan on applying into a Nurse Practitioners program (FNP) where after I will be working in the primary care setting and I will be able to lead a
It is said that the environment of our upbringing plays a salient role in determining the ambitions we pursue, the moral values we cherish and ultimately, the lasting contributions we make to society. I firmly believe that my formative experiences laid down the foundation for passion for nursing and constitute one of the salient reasons why I am determined to pursue this profession. For me nursing, is more than a mere vocation, it is a moral commitment, the manifestation of my natural talents and the actualization of the deep-seated aspirations that I have nourished since childhood. My mother was an accomplished nurse and always set a remarkable example for me to follow by displaying virtues of compassion, moral courage and dedication to the public good. My life experiences compelled me to emulate her example by cultivating the virtues of compassion and genuine sensitivity to patients. My formative experiences and core values led me to enter this career in the capacity of a Certified Nursing Assistant where I was distinguished for not only my competence as a nurse assistant, but also for my remarkable sensitivity to the needs of the patients. I intend to continue to actualize my natural talents by pursuing a career in Nursing.
I feel like being an Health Administrator is the perfect job for me, because of what I've been through so far in my life. Growing up as a kid I enjoyed being athletic and competing against my peers in any sport events. I later on ran track and played basketball throughout my middle school and high school years. I had the opportunity to lead my track team in some events and it brought out a leadership trait I always had. Sadly, my senior years of track, I fell sick and experienced kidney failure and it was a very hard obstacle in my life. I'm Thankful that God pulled me through and showed me how important your health is. Now I eat more healthier and drink more water because of it. With that being said, being a healthcare administrator share everything I enjoy doing. I like to lead and make sure things are moving smoothly. I also enjoy helping people who are sick, nurse back to health
Entering the healthcare profession comes with great responsibilities and many new experiences and challenges that most have never faced before. With any new job, whether it be a Doctor or a grocery store clerk, some type of change is required in us. With a new job, we are faced with new people, new rules, and new expectations. Unfortunately, it’s not always easy to adjust to all the “new” and it can become overwhelming. As humans, it’s easy for us to fall into certain patterns or habits in which we find it truly hard to break from. For example, hitting the snooze button every morning, even though I specifically make notes to myself to NOT HIT THE SNOOZE BUTTON. I personally feel that the job I chose to pursue is a very important one and I need to make some lifestyle changes in order to be the best I can be. Among other things, I’m mainly working to improve my promptness as well as my collaborating skills, my overall attitude, dependability, and how I can better prepare myself.
Humans have the most neurons and possibly the largest information processing capacity than any other species, which makes us far superior to any
Go outside ask any teenager what their greatest accomplishments are and I assure you some will respond with playing for their high school team, winning a championship, or many will not even know what it is. Yes I ran cross country for my sophomore year and had to opportunity to be varsity by junior year, played club and got third place our first year going in, but those are not my greatest achievements. Many teenagers do not have one, not because they do not do anything, but because most high schools do not offer great real life opportunities for their students.
I am highly interested in the Registered Nurse opening in Medical Surgical Unit now available at Reading Health System. I will be graduating in July 2016, and taking the NCLEX August 2nd, 2016. The values of compassion and innovation in your mission statement and dedication to educating health care professionals resonate with me.
Recently I have decided to change my career choice from being a nurse to being a healthcare administrator. Life has a way of showing you what it thinks is best for you. I had to find out a hard way that nursing really wasn’t what I was supposed to do for the rest of my life. Once I found this out I had to take a step back and look at what I wanted to do, something that I would love to do for the rest of my life. After taking some time and looking around at my options I finally decided on Healthcare Administration. I feel that I would be good at this job and it is something that I can see myself doing for the rest of my life.
These hospitals and their cooperatives need leadership capable of navigating the ever-evolving field of healthcare. A Master’s of Healthcare Administration
I’m going to go to community college to get my associates degree in nursing chose nursing because I love to take care of people and to be around them I want to become an Rn at Kaiser Hospital because they are a big company and a lot of people go there to get taken care of. I mainly love kids that’s why I’m doing it.
Healthcare has many different areas one can go into if interested in this field. I have chosen two that have always been an interest to me; Nursing (particularly registered nursing) and an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician). Both jobs are very demanding and extremely important. Both are respected jobs and require a tremendous amount of caring for others.
I am applying for the Master of Professional Studies in Technology Management (Health Information Technology) program at Georgetown University for the summer 2014 session, keeping in mind my future objectives of doing a PhD in Health Information Technology. My desire and enthusiasm for further study and research is motivated by professional goals and intellectual curiosity. I would like to pursue a career in the development of new Health-IT systems, especially remote monitoring technologies, technology-supported translation services, c and self-management tools through mobile technologies that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of information flow in a healthcare setting. I strongly believe the intellectual environment at Georgetown
