STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
Mansi Gandhi M.A in Interior Architecture Spring 2016
People often asked me, "Why did you choose Architecture?" I couldn't give one simple answer for that. May be because I loved painting, sketching and learning about new cultures since childhood. Art has always been my true passion, and every forms of art have captivated me since my childhood. Architecture is like a stage to me where I can choreograph my skills and creativity, with a desire to explore how science and technology can be used to improve the performance of buildings both socially and environmentally. Being able to bring tangible change is the ambition that I cherish. I hope to do so by becoming an Architect who is

That is what I seek to do by pursuing M.A in Interior Architecture with focus on practical aspects of designing at the Suffolk University. As I studied the offerings, I know that spread out and detailed curriculum will give great course coverage and necessary knowledge & expertise required for my field of interest. I am positive of this as I see fundamentals like history and theory of interior design beside advanced and specific subjects like sustainable design, lighting design studio and thesis studio on offer. Several faculty members have been in advisory and other capacities working on projects and construction management aspects of large projects in the real world so that will lend my education a touch of the actual happenings. Associate professor Anna Gitelman and Associate professor Karen Clarke with their pursuits in Lighting, Thesis & History studios and Interior marketing & contracts and Interior Materials, would provide me with an opportunity to be a part of their team which would sharpen my abilities to see beyond what is known in terms of ideas and
When I graduate college, I would love to design a building that would fascinate kids and encourage them to be an architect. Someday, I want to create a building that will better the city of Altoona. Most importantly, I want to be known for contributing and giving back to my community.
In the article, “Where Are the Women? Measuring Progress on Gender in Architecture,” transcribed by Lian Chikako Chang deliberates the decrease of women’s representation in the area of architecture. Starting at the bottom of the ladder, female architecture students make up a bit more than forty percent of the total enrolled students. In order for those students to become licensed architects, they have to partake in the Architect Registration Examination (ARE), Development Program (IDP), and the National
I picked this career path because I enjoy drawing. I also enjoy designing and mapping out structures. I find both of these activities to be very peaceful and fun for me. When I was eight years old, I had the biggest set of Legos. I decided to use them all on one huge house. So I sat down, began to build and I even started mapping it out on paper. I spent nearly an entire day building this mansion and of course, when I was done, I showed my mom. When I showed it to her, she was amazed and the next sentence she spoke was one that stuck with me for years. My mom told me I should be an architect. That moment Nine years ago made me realize what I wanted to do in the future. I thought if designing buildings is a career, that’s what I’m going to do. Becoming an architect when I get out of school is a life-long goal of
I selected architecture as my career. It involves a lot of my passions such as math, building, algebra, and designing. Architecture can mean: A general term to describe buildings and other physical structures.
As the architect when he or she designs they create concepts and bring them to reality. The innovation part mostly comes harder due to the challenges he or she may phase because of the budget and time line assigned by the client. The second advantage is the income, as an architect, if an architect is employed in a private international company in the city they have the advantage of earning almost double the income of other professions and by experience this increases, and if an architect specialized in a certain field such as landscape or specifications they get even higher incomes that what usual employees get. The third advantage is that architects do not get bored in their work, because Architecture is a very active field and has the engagement of many other professions with it, as the trends constantly changes and new technologies appears every time. Even though this implements that architects need to get updated every now and then to stay at on tuned with what’s going on their surroundings, it also means that they will always be learning new things. The way architects work with every project is different from one to another as each project has its own requirements. The experience itself rather than just sitting in one place for years and years on the same desk, architects get to go on different places and don’t stick to one thing, they move from places to places because that is what the job requires from them to do, for example designing on the laptop, to picking materials in shops, to visiting
Interior design has always been at the top of my list for potential careers, with architecture following closely behind. Considering the two professions fit closely together, I would like to pursue both. In graphic arts, plans and layouts are drawn for interior and architectural designs. I believe that taking graphic arts would help cultivate more skills that could be used in these professions.
In the future, I would like to attend a college and go into the field of engineering, preferably architecture. Architecture has interested me now for 2-3 years and is something I always thought about. Although I have no experience with architecture, my curiosity has always led me to think about why something is built in a certain way and how it works. I began wondering about how architecture
In 1948, atof the Summer Olympics in London, Great Britain, architecture was part of one of the events (Sports-Reference). An architect is someone that designs and builds houses for people to live in or work in. Architects usually work in offices where they meet their clients, but occasionally they must travel to construction sites. They also must know how to design structures, know building and construction knowledge, and be able to analyze the environment. If someone is interested in becoming an architect, they need to know the different degrees needed to obtain, the specific skills needed and the demand and salary for the desired location (BLSbls).
Architecture is an incredible business that combines both the art and the construction of buildings. Architecture has been on the Earth since the beginning of civilization. Every building, from the houses to the parks, architects had to design it. I love buildings because of the way they can touch people's lives. Architecture is an expression of life and from looking at the two different locations, I saw how Larimer Square showed this expression better that Writer Square. One thing that caught my attention is how well the architects made the parts talk to the each other. I loved how the architects put a great amount of detail to their buildings. I also liked how the buildings were different from one another.
Growing up in a town in which most people took advantage with civil service or union jobs, I always pictured myself doing something different;I strived to find a more meaningful purpose for myself. While training and developing a skill set or trade was admirable,I was of belief that I was meant to do something more challenging with my life. With this in mind, I decided to initially pursue a degree at Nassau Community College with a focus in the field of architecture. It was at Nassau where I quickly realized choosing a future career was not as easy as I expected. After studying diligently and absorbing as much information as possible pertaining to architecture, I recognized that the passion and spark I presumed I would have for architecture had not developed.
In this game, you create your character or characters and you then live their virtual lives. One of the aspects of their lives you control is building the characters home. Well, needless to say this was the only aspect of the virtual life that I involved myself with. I would create a character, built their home and decorate the interior. Once done, I would create another character and begin the process over again. In retrospect, it is no surprise to me that I eventually yearned to go to school for architecture. Interestingly, in eighth grade we were given an assignment to complete a career binder. This binder was to include the research of three careers we would be interested in pursuing. I knew I wanted to do something involving art, science, and math; architecture appeared to be an excellent choice utilizing all three courses, which I enjoyed. After researching architect information I did in fact find it highly fascinating. Sophomore year of high school, I decided to enroll in a CAD class at the local technical college. I mainly wanted to ensure I was truly interested in this
Architecture should be nurturing, responsive and alive, dynamically shifting spatial balances, organically expressive forms, subtly luminous colors and biologically healthy. To achieve such life-enhancing architecture, it has to address all the body senses simultaneously and fuse our image of self with experience of the world. By strengthening our sense of self and reality, architecture serves its all-important function of accommodation and
Before the end of my second year at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute School of Architecture, I began to ponder on the possibility of quitting architecture. It was a convoluted time of uncertainty; I wasn’t sure whether I was prepared to become an architect and take on the responsibility and commitment to better the built environment. Nevertheless, I decided to give myself one last shot at architecture before giving up – I accepted the internship offer from MAD Architects in Beijing, China. There, I got to meet many young architects
In my last year of L.Arch Undergraduate program, I started to think of what my future plan is, and what I want to achieve in my life in Landscape Architecture. I realized I have goals which can be achieved and dreams that can only be achieved through hard work and luck. To further elaborate, I will categorize them into short term goal, long term goal and advocator.
Architecture can be viewed with two different types of properties. Properties that can be seen like shapes, their composition, the spaces they create and, the colours and textures that make up their appearance. These properties are considered to be visual while other properties are considered to be abstract. These properties can only be described using words; the meanings behind the architecture and the stories that can be told about it. The context, its cultural background and its function also affects how we view architecture. The question is, what
