Receiving this scholarship will be really helpful and will relieve a lot of stress for me financially.

When I enter college I want to peruse a career in the medical field, hopefully dentistry. Currently my ultimate goal is to become a maxillofacial surgeon, if I achieve this goal it will be a dream come true. People often tell me the years of study and the work load is intense but I am willing to give it my all. I fell in love with dentistry when I got my braces; I was fascinated by the process, procedure and outcome. I don’t want to settle with orthodontics I want to see tumors and perform dental reconstruction surgeries that can be revolutionary. With this scholarship I can save up money that I would be spending on books or tuition for the upcoming years that I will face. I am applying for this scholarship to help pursue my goal of earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences so that I may further my education with a Master’s of Physician’s Assistant Program. My long-term career goal is to work as an Oncologist Physician Assistant. I want to help those suffering from cancer become Survivors. Florida International University is an amazing school but affording it is not easy, especially due to my circumstances. My mother is a single mother of four children, me being the oldest, each child five to seven years apart. She is a certified nursing assistant and only has some college completed. My mom had to put her life on hold, sacrificing her education to take care of her children. She was not born in the United States, but in Haiti. After my aunt there is not much family that lives in the United States, instead they live in Haiti. This scholarship would be a blessing, having a positive impact on my education and life. Financially, it will help my pay for the schooling I need to accomplish my goals that I wish to pursue at Florida International University. I have lived in San Antonio, Texas my entire life. Most of my family, from my mother’s side, still lives here, too. Only two of my cousins have ventured outside of Texas. Everyone else either lives in San Antonio or surrounding cities. One of my cousins, who still lives in Texas, is attending Texas State University in San Marcos. He and I are the only two males from my mother’s family who have been to college, so we are each proud of the other, and we know that our family is proud of us.
