Throughout the nation and our world people are suffering from this disease. Depression is a mental illness affecting people of both genders, all ages, and any background, and if treated early it does not have to negatively affect one's life. Depression is a brain disorder of an imbalance of chemicals in the brain that causes one to function different from others. It can cause oneself to lose interest in everyday hobbies, loss of energy, and a loss of friends. One experiences the constant feeling of hopelessness, sadness, low self-esteem, living in seclusion, insomnia, irritability, and lack of motivation and suicidal thoughts. Roughly ten percent of Americans live with depression at some point in their lives. (Geneva, 2016). Negative feedback and stereotypes discourage people from seeking the help they need.
