Storification Reflection

In class, we read the book The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls. This book was about the crazy childhood Jeanette experienced. Jeanette had to become independent at a very young age, since her parents didn’t seem to take responsibility for their children. She learned how to do many things on her own, like boil hotdogs at the age of three. Jeanette’s family was also always on the move; they drove miles and miles until her parents found a small town where they wanted to settle down for a little while. She became familiar with her dad’s term the “skedaddle,” which means they would just pick up and leave in a hurry. Because of all these sudden changes in Jeanette’s life, she had to start a new life for herself everywhere she went, such as starting a new school, making new friends, and adapting to the way of living in that

The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls is an autobiography about a young woman’s journey in life. It delves into her childhood, which was as dire as it could become, and how she was able to break her family’s habits and achieve her dreams of becoming a reporter/journalist. There were several significant lessons throughout the story, but what I deemed to be the most valuable lesson was that struggle is important. In the book, struggle is what built Jeannette into who she is today. It drove her to be successful in life, taught her that hope is always out there, and formed her character.

school, I found it hard to believe a professional school would actually have to recruit minority students to fill its quotas. Nevertheless, thinking back to Karl Krebs, a.k.a. Karl K. Krebs, M.D., Keystone, Class of 1974, I realized Freddy was probably right. Interested in the Minority Program from an educational perspective, I asked Freddy to continue.

When I think of the name Jeannette Walls, I automatically think of her book, The Glass Castle. This is a story about her life and the hardships she faced growing up. She experienced poverty, hunger, bullying, and so many more horrible things that others can relate to. At a young age, Jeanette was a little oblivious to her family’s problems. When people are young, they are less experienced with hard times and personal problems. They think that the bad things happening are normal because they know nothing else. For Jeanette, she thought that being on the move all the time was normal and that it was okay. As she got older, she began to realize that things can and should be different. Another thing that Jeannette experienced was obliviousness when it came to love and hope. Jeannette believed her father when he said he was going to build the Glass Castle and make all these inventions that would make their family rich, but he never did. Jeannette chose to see the goodness and hope in her family, but as she got older, she began to mature and become realistic.

This semester I learned a lot about writing in English 151. It has been a roller coaster ride with these essays for me this semester. I learned step by step how to write a good essay and how to have your readers be engaged in what you’re trying to tell them. Each essay I did has taught me something valuable I can take to the next level of English. I feel as if as the semester went by I did not take my writing that seriously and that reflected in my grades I received in each essay. It made me a better student and writer and it will reflect next semester. In this essay, I will reflect on what I learned throughout this semester that you should apply in your writing when you begin English 151.

The Criminal Justice agency I worked with was the Southeast Texas Applied Forensic Science Facility or STAFS. At this agency, there is a focus on applying forensic science to the human body. There is an additional focus on what can be collected from the evidence that they are provided with. At STAFS, the bodies the scientist work on are donated and are treated with the upmost respect.

Communication is part of individual’s everyday life. The shadowing final exam for this course allowed me to explore a career I was interested in and study what communication skills the employee use daily. The person I shadowed on Wednesday March 28, 2018 was Mario Chaney, Manager of design at Wayne Sate University in the Marketing and Communication Department. Mr. Chaney is a Wayne State alumnus with a Bachelor of Fine Arts has a certificate of Web design from creative studies. He designs both print and web layout to promote Wayne State University. For example, registration pamphlet and housing brochure were a few of the projects he was working on for next fall “2018-2019”. The reason I chose to shadow Mr. Chaney is after participating in a workshop with him where I got to go through the process of crating a warrior strong poster I was intrigued how design be used to communicate a message to many students on campus.

In this first section a few things came up that would be helpful in my research. The article mentions, “Today, the CDC recommends that children receive vaccines for 10 diseases, plus the flus vaccine, by age 6, which can mean up to 37 separate shots”. There were stories in this section on different parents even actors against vaccinations. The article did mention that there was a study that identified that usually children who are not vaccinated are from male children from wealthy educated families. This is important because in my personal experience low income families are easily persuaded and even as an adult or child will take anything given by a doctor without even knowing what they are taken. As I become more educated I question anyone

The reflection this week asks us how we would differentiate instruction for writing a research paper in our relative area of interest. Specifically speaking, the reflection asks for two specific differentiated learning tasks. One of the activities must involve a tired activity, while the other can utilize any of the strategies suggested in the lesson. For this particular reflection, I will focus my attention on an early middle school level activity to differentiate on writing a research paper.

I am on target with meeting the weekly milestone deadlines and the content requirements. However, as I complete the final synthesis paper I will edit the sections within Digication to reflect any changes made within the paper that are relevant. I have yet to upload a professional photograph, but when I have one taken, I will add this to the welcome page above the quotation image. When I began using Digication, it was time consuming to grow accustomed to how to maneuver around and complete tasks, which included editing the background, when customizing it to reflect my unique identity as an MSW student and an individual. Now that I have been utilizing it on a regular basis, making changes has become quicker to accomplish. The process of building my portfolio has helped me

I found out about the SSLP through my friends applying and who participated as well as through announcements via flyers and emails. I've also had professors and advisors recommend applying to the SSLP as a great way to engage in service during summer breaks.

Transitioning from a setting of required learning to one of voluntary participation enabled me to grow in directions as a student that I would not have deemed possible before I had enrolled in English 101. I have developed completely contrasting perspectives in regards to writing than I held at the beginning of the semester, the most notable one being; instead of striving to be the most knowledgeable writer in the classroom, I now wish to be the most persuasive. Through surpassing personal endeavors as a writer, I have developed the understanding that this was due to my will to understand the art of rhetor, establishing my argument through supporting facts, and appealing to the ethos, pathos, and logos of my audience. I grew as a student

This artifact is from Seminar in Administrative Policy Making (6035) during the Fall 2016 semester. The assignments were throughout the semester. The purpose of the assignments was to prepare the students to discuss the weekly readings assigned. After each reading, I had to write a summary of I read. Those assignments no longer increasing my writing skills, but it also in increase my critical thinking skills. I had to prepare to think critically each class meeting because the professor was asking students’ challenging questions about the readings, which lead me to develop the ability to analyze, synthesize, think critically, solve problems and make decisions.

The world will always remember the Holocaust and the deaths resulting from the Nazi concentration camps. Jews and other prisoners were subject to torture, starvation, and murder while most of the world was unaware of these events. In Elie Wiesel’s memoir, Night, he ensures that no one forgets the genocide of the Jews by explaining how they lost their faith in God, experienced brutality, and became selfish in order to survive.

As I left out the cattle cars, we were getting separated by these German soldiers into two different lines. I saw the dark ashes of burning people and then a huge “mountain” of bodies stacked onto each other, I was going towards the pit. I thought my life was over until I quickly turned the other way…I sighed. I secretly snuck into the other line that they had to do work…I wanted to be safe and I’d do anything I can to survive. I whispered in my head, “I rather work then die”. This shows how apparently it is OK for someone to do something bad to a person for surviving, protecting family, or if it doesn’t hurt anyone inside.
