Strategic interaction in volleyball Game sports are mainly defined as having two opposite parties; each can involve two or more players. They all have a common objective and that is to reach their final purpose in the game and be successful by winning it. In sports, this kind of behaviour can be described as a “strategic interaction”. A party needs therefore to interact in strategic ways, through communication, in order to make progress and respond to their expectations of succeeding. With good communication, their ability to achieve a better outcome, than the opposite party, increases. This strategy is also used in economics, law or even psychology. The main task of the paper is to understand how strategic interactions in sports are applied, especially how players behave during games. …show more content…
First, we are going to see how the strategic interaction is applied in volleyball and then, we are going to understand how it illustrates the principle in
Every sport has their own terminology and language that only players of that sport understand. In volleyball it is important to know the terms used. The terminology that a volleyball player first learns are: pass, set, hit, kill, double, serve, and the positions on the court. Every player’s exigence for knowing and understanding the terms is for the player’s and team’s success. Without the knowledge of the terms used, a player will not comprehend what is going on, what plays are being made, or what the referees are expressing.
The sport of volleyball was created by a man named William G. Morgan of Holyoke, Massachusetts in 1895. Morgan was a physical education teacher at the YMCA and called it "mintonette". It was an indoor or outdoor pastime that had characteristics of both handball and tennis. The first rules were written down by Morgan himself. He wrote that the game called for a 6 foot 6 inch net and a court of 25x50 feet. A match composed of 9 innings and 3 serves for each team in each inning. In case of a serving error they got a second chance just like in tennis. If the ball it the net
Volleyball season had started, and that means six o’clock practices bright and early. Practice was two hours long before school. I could feel the anxiety in the gym that day; everyone was nervous, thinking about what was to come. We did not play the best that day, to say the least. We kept seeing people walking past the gym, wishing they were anywhere else. The whole team was waiting for the clock to read eight so we could rush upstairs to change. At last, Coach let us take down the nets and go get ready. Our excitement led us to break record time taking down the nets.
During the game, lots of aggression is used and often necessary to win. After the game,
Competitive video games require a certain amount of skills. Like sports, they require gigantic amounts of strategy to do well in. The players also need their reaction times to be phenomenal in order to think quickly in tight situations. One of the most important factors is teamwork because communicating between your team helps them acquire: where the player should be, where their allies are, and where to oppose the enemy. In conclusion, these skills all help when it comes to doing well in this area of play.
A person is capable of learning a skill if they put their time and effort towards what they feel passionate about. Has someone ever wanted to develop an ability that you practice it for hours a day? I did, I have spent around 100 hours a year trying to perfect my loving skill, volleyball. It was a hardworking skill, but enjoyable as well. It is my way of life. The most important years of my life was my volleyball experience in High School.
Since my freshman year, volleyball has become not only a sport but a passion. My immediate love for this sport resulted in a transition from an amateur beginner to team captain of the JV team and ultimately to team captain of the Varsity team. As captain, I lead the girls and regularly assist the coach by directing practices and drills that will perfect skills and promote outstanding performance. At a recent regional holiday invitational tournament, our team received an award for our exceptional performance. I consistently remind teammates that volleyball is a mental game as much as it is a physical game, helping each player to develop the mental stamina that is necessary for victory. Demonstrating outstanding plays on the court, I always attempt
Competition is vital for a sport to continue to grow and engage audience attention around the world.
Communication is the biggest key to a good volleyball team. First, a passer must call the ball if able to make the pass. If players do not talk and claim the ball, it may hit the floor. Also, the setter has to tell his or her teammates if he or she can get to the second hit. Finally, everyone who is not hitting should talk to the hitter. It is imperative to share where to place the hit, if tipping is a better option, and how many blockers there are. Miscommunication could cost the team a point or even the game. The game of volleyball is all about working as a team and
I appreciate the strong sense of camaraderie in my school tennis team when we practice and play. I love that my mother (first name Marion) will call herself “Slumdog Marionaire” and only buy the cheap properties in my favorite board game Monopoly. When my Aunt Kathy directed her displeasure towards me during the Chinese checkers game, there was an explosion of laughter. The bond that grows between teammates and even opponents is unique to gameplay. The product of practice and the numerous hours of preparation may only be recognized in victory, but the process leading to this final reward or even defeat always holds a high value in the mind of a
Volleyball is a sport that has been significantly gaining interest over the years with many levels of volleyball being offered from the ages of nine through adulthood. Many new players will begin in recreational leagues and learn the fundamentals. After a few years, dedicated players will begin to make the switch to selective club volleyball leagues for the advancement it provides. While all levels of volleyball provide a strong basis for competition, club volleyball leagues far surpass recreational volleyball leagues in terms of providing certified coaches, selecting players of the highest caliber skill level, and the capability of recognition by college scouts.
It is a Sunday night in mid-August and I am getting ready to close my eyes for the night. Once again my excitement is taking over my ability to sleep. I am astoundingly excited for another season of volleyball. When I awoke the next morning, I gathered all of my volleyball equipment and put my volleyball shoes, kneepads, and an extra shirt into my bag. I then flew up the stairs to prepare a delicious breakfast for myself before the big day. I fried two eggs, butter a piece of toast with peanut butter, and cut a crisp red apple into eight perfect slices. After breakfast, I filled my water bottle with ice and water and rushed quickly to the high school. I arrived to the high school at 7:33 A.M. and the day I could not wait for officially began.
Championships, the goal of every sports team, are often won by the same few teams over and over and over again, but people have difficulty understanding why. What makes certain teams so successful? Sports teams have long wondered what is the best way to become and stay competitive at high levels of competition. Teams are always looking to improve and reach that next level. Vast amounts of money are paid to improve sports teams, and many businesses base their models of work on professional athletics. I will be discussing a team today in attempts to look more deeply into the issues that can hold a team back from reaching its potential from a communication stand point. This study’s intention is to help create better systems of communication
Team sports in particular demand constant communication between teammates. A team will not stand a chance in a game without some form of communication, whether it is verbal or not. Communication within a team takes place during and outside of the game. Sports unite strangers to a common love. The bonding through a sport brings the teammates closer together where the athletes can ultimately “express their concerns, hopes, and disappointments to their coaches and their teammates” (qtd. in Maslen). One-on-one communication skills are put to the test when an athlete is put in a situation where they meet new athletes and compete against them in individual sports such as golf. All of these communication skills that are developed through sports will provide many benefits for the athlete
Sports, for thousands of years, have been a wonderful means for humankind to exercise one of our most basic instincts: competition with our fellow humans. Surrounding all types of sports is the idea of sportsmanship, the respect and ethical behavior shown to all participants of a contest. Sports fans around the world have all seen their share of sore losers, bad winners, and generally horrifying displays of poor sportsmanship. Yet, in all sports, there remain certain dogmas that only the most poorly-behaved sportsman would dare to violate. The spirit of the game, in many cases, is far more important than the outcome of the match, and a true competitor understands this. This is why many of our most beloved athletes are not always the most talented or outstanding performers; it is those who play with the purest heart, for the sake of the team, and with respect for all opponents. Truly transcendent athletes are those that are able to combine this intangible trait with world class skill.
