“You need to be able to manage stress because hard times will come, and a positive outlook is what gets you through,” stated by Marie Osmond (Stress). This quote moves to the forefront of my thoughts when I become aware of the stress that arises in my life. Individuals react to stress in various ways, which makes it difficult to address the causes of stress and reactions to it. It is challenging to find underlying contributors of stress when one has not frequently experienced this feeling. (15) I needed to determine what caused my stress and what my initial reactions to certain stresses were to understand how to control my stress. It took me years to learn my stress produces and how my reactions changed with each situation I faced. I responded to stress with positive and negative physical, emotional, and mental responses. (BE4) Freshmen year of high school I learned school and family had become prevalent stressors in my life. I had to learn to counteract my stress in order to focus on prioritizing my activities and responsibilities. This is true still today. I react differently to school stress and family stress, because of varying.
(2) My school stress is primarily self-influenced, and my family stress, primarily externally influenced. (9) Grades, deadlines, and extracurricular activities – these are just a few of the many aspects of school that lead to my stress. Stress and anxiety in the average college student. Selye (1936) defined stress as “the non-specific response of the body to any demand for change” (The American Institute of Stress, 2017). Stress can lead to feelings of anxiety. Anxiety is a normal part of life, but can be considered a type of worry or fear that can inhibit everyday life. College students show higher stress/anxiety than average individuals. Major sources of stress are from new responsibilities, campus living, money issues, and classwork (Ross, Niebling, & Heckert, 1999). There have been a number of studies circled around how stress can affect college students. Females and males show differences in anxiety/stress in college. As a Richland Collegiate High School student, I am always attacked by stressors in my academic life. The stress provoked by school-related objects often bled into my home and social life. It created an unhealthy environment where I felt weighed down by the stress. Due to the stress, I often lost my appetite and started sleeping less. My mother worried that I was depressed or that I was developing an eating disorder, but I just did not know how to pick myself up and just get things done. I lacked motivation, self-control, and a healthy balance of work and relaxation. Throughout the course, I have been picking up on some of the strategies I can use to help alleviate my stress and subsequently improve other aspects of my life.
Stress is a hurdle that is thrown my way daily. Personally, I’ve always viewed my stress as having a negative effect in my life. I have always blamed my stress for the cause of my depression, face breakouts, and the way I handle situations.
Another significant cause of stress is a lot of individuals are suffering from a financial. Some people have a lot of amount of debt more than their income. For example, people should pay for medicals, educations, and bills. For this reason, debt gives rise of tension. Debt is a huge ball of stress (“The Debt-Stress Connection,” n.d.). Also, college students feel anxious about their money. Some scholar reduced their class load due to the money, and the another took a break from the University (Grabmeler, 2015). Financial issues give rise to some students to make challenging selections about their study. In addition, parents worrying about how they would take care of their children. In chapter 13 we learned about many concepts and theories, but one of them is the four major types of stress. One of the four talks about frustration, which is when a person experience whenever the pursuit of some goal is blocked. This happens to me a lot when it comes down to homework or papers. For example, when I get an assignment for a paper and everything seems fine, but then I get stuck because I ran out of ideas to write about. When this happen I get very frustrated because all I want to do is just be done with the paper and get it out of the way. People should learn about this because they should know they are not alone in this situation. Everyone in the world gets frustrated about something going on in their life.

People all over the world stress about something every day. Stress can lead to many dangerous health problems and can strain relationships with other people. People in the United States stress over many of the same issues. I stress about school, work, family issues, and social life.
A very important factor of stress is school. School can cause a lot of stress. "One of the greatest sources of pressure is school. Where we are herded like cattle from room to room, chewing on our cud, while the hay of knowledge is force fed to us as we are trying our hardest to gulp it down as more and more is shovelled in"( ).Grades can act upon stress. Students may think that you always need good grades, parents can cause this or even just their own minds. Teens want to get into a good college so they stress. Psychological stress is pressure placed on a person to adapt, cope, or adjust to a situation (Rathus, 2016, p.284). The result of prolonged stress can affect a person’s mood, pleasure experience, and have harmful effects on physical health (Rathus, 2016, p.284). Society in the twenty first century places high demands on people. Technology makes it very difficult to separate work life, school life, and home life. Today, society places a high value on a busy lifestyle for individuals. For example, many places of business are open twenty-four hours a day. In addition to societal pressures, attending a university adds to the stressors a person may experience. Going to school not only includes classroom time but it also includes homework,

Imagine living in a world where production is the only thing that matters. Where work and business demands grow exponentially every day and more is expected to be done in a shorter amount of time. Unfortunately, this is the world that we live in today. Jobs are now the number one priority of people, while family and health take a back seat. The work days for all types of jobs become longer as more is expected to be completed. This is showcased in all industries. Doctors work around the clock for up to 80 hours per week. Teachers stay up for all hours of the night grading papers and tests. Business owners work seven days a week in order to implement plans to make money. In almost every profession, workers are expected to meet deadlines. The failure of meeting these deadlines results in one losing their job. But, with a job comes many negative factors that impact one’s well-being.
Newth (2011) claims that modern day stress seems to be more widespread than ever causing interference with human intellect, emotional and interpersonal functioning. Therefore; I suggest that students will encounter stress and it will impact their academic performance. In this fast pace and performance driven society each organization needs well performing people. The only way we will know what people require to become productive and less stressed is to explore topics as my research question. The topic
