One of the biggest advantages of being a student in a college/university is the student discounts. Students Discounts can help students save a lot of money, however a lot of people feel that these discounts can be a bad idea by causing students to leech off of them and spend more more than they need to. I believe that student discounts are necessary because it can help us students get the things we need for school. Being a freshman in college, everything I need for school is very expensive. For example, the books I need for class is from 200 to 1000 dollars. Websites like chegg and Amazon Prime has helped me save a lot of money due to low prices and discounts for students. Overall, student discounts have helped a lot of students around the
Freshman 101 is a class adapted from the parrot program (Fay & Medway, 2006, p. 226). The parrot program was designed for college students at Cornell University. Freshman 101 is the first of its kind in the state of South Carolina and the first to extend Parrot’s college program to high school freshmen (p. 226). Each two-hour intervention class contained 25 to 30 freshmen students. The objectives of the class were to have participants understand the definition of acquaintance rape and the frequency that it takes place along with South Carolina’s laws regarding rape (p. 226). Students also learned about mixed messages associated with verbal and non-verbal communication and how to clearly state their wants and desires (p. 227). Communication,

I believe that Polk County Early College High School would be a great school for me because of smaller class sizes and more one on one opportunity with teachers. I feel that I thrive in that kind of setting because you can feel free to ask for help if needed, and it will be provided much more easily than in a larger class room. I also love the opportunity that the school provides to be able to earn college credits while attending high school. I am a very self motivated person and being able to complete work at my own pace would be significant. If I am working at my own pace I will be given the chance to work ahead and cover more material which is great. I think Polk County Early College would be the perfect school for me because I would be
I believe I should be considered for this honor because the actions I have taken from the moment I stepped on this campus encompass the pillars of The Maroon and Gold Society. For instance, my current position within student government tasks me with helping the members of the organization to develop and harness their leadership abilities, as well as finding their place in the Loyola community. I do what I do at Loyola because I truly love this university. I became a Resident Assistant because I wanted to share and create the love and community that I experienced my freshman year. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing someone find their home within Loyola.
Throughout our lives, we will endure plenty of mistakes and take ownership of situations we did not mean to create. When asking the question ‘If you were to get one do-over in life, what would it be and why?’, my answer would be to attend an early college high school.
Early College High School at Delaware State University is a place to save time and money, and earn up to at least 60 college credits in high school. If I were to describe ECHS in one sentence, I would say that they move very quickly, but are very helpful. Although this school is very helpful there is a downfall, that downfall is that they are unorganized. One thing that made my 9th grade year here at The Early College High School at Delaware State University more smoothly was that some of my teachers had a sense of humor which made the environment feel a lot more positive and it made me feel comfortable that this school isn’t severely strict. I do not understand why we would control who could attend a community college in the first place. The community college is a resource that serves communities and the four-year university system in many different ways, from continuing education to general education classes community colleges cater to the needs of every student to a degree. To think about limiting this resource is to deny someone an education and that is not how the U.S. was founded. Granted we are working towards free higher education through programs like the Tennessee Promise, but college is obtainable for the most part through financial resources that students have available. College is often times a barrier enough for students, but to begin limiting it to certain groups
The roaring twenties was a time filled with hope and change. President Warren G. Harding promised a “return to normalcy”, which reflected his own conservative values and the voters’ wants for stability and order. Americans felt that they had been through more than enough, and desired prosperity. During the years 1919 and 1920 the Eighteenth and Nineteenth Amendments were passed; the outlaw of alcoholic beverages and the right for women to vote, which ones of the many reasons society was turning their backs on Progressivism. Republicans were beginning to return to their previous dominance. The 1920’s was an economic boom for America, including everything from an increase in jobs, a rise in plentiful goods, new consumer products, and the reduction of taxes. The country was filled with jazz music, dance, and what appeared to be a brighter future. The 1929 crash of stock market was the beginning of a downward spiral leading in to the Great Depression. The stock market crash is often to be confused as the cause of the Great Depression, although that is false. A few of the issues that lead to the Great Depression included; farming (which decreased in demand as farms increased through the states during World War I), banking, and mass unemployment. Capitalism took shape as what was once the individualistic Protestant work ethic was reshaped into industrial work on a grand scale. Each worker contributed to the greater good, and the workers were presided over by a boss
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” This quote from Nelson Mandela always clicked with me, because while many things can change the world, education is always at the root of it. The Ottawa County Early College program is an opportunity for me to practice with this essential tool. I feel that I am a good fit for the program because I have passion for my studies, am proactive in them, and I flourish under challenge. This amazing program excites me because it will help me to achieve my overall goal for my education; to positively impact the world. While I have many different ideas with what I want to do with my education, Early College will allow me to explore many different paths within a budget I
If someone ask me what is my favorite memories in high school for now. I’ll says that is my sophomore year. Because sophomore year is the year that changed my mind and my life, the year that I meet my awesome friend and everyone look at me a different way and here is what happened to my sophomore year.
Time flies. I will soon finish high school and move to college. The first semester of senior year is the most important period during my life, but I still have a Dragon I need to beat. The Dragon is called Procrastination. He has troubled me for my whole life, and I have never killed him before. During my senior year, I have to try to combat him, beat him, and destroy him.
Free college is a commonly accepted idea, as a crucial part of society's advancement. Education is the foundation for building a strong country, as knowledge is what allows for productivity in all areas of life. However, the cost and accessibility to standard higher education limits many people's availability to a quality schooling. Some may argue that public colleges should continue to charge tuition, as the federal government can not afford the cost nor will creating higher taxes to enable the program solve the crisis. However, ultimately, higher education should be free as it would stimulate economic growth, remove the primary deterrent for not attending college and decrease dependence on government aid.

Does being a low income student or a minority hinder you from getting the proper education?
Firefighters, police officers, public officials, and health care personnel are some of the first careers individuals think of when the phrase, “public service,” is mentioned. Other people think of philanthropists, teachers, or even nonprofit organizations; however, individuals in these positions are not the only public servants throughout the world; and in some instances, the same individuals who serve as your police officers, public officials, or in any “public servant” position, for that matter, would not be considered a public servant due to bad outcomes from unethical behaviors. The real questions, then, are: how to determine the public official that is, in fact, a public servant compared to the one who is not; how to know what other jobs could be considered a public service and which ones are not; or how to recognize the actual acts of public service from the phony ones? Questions like these, as well as others, will be attempted to be answered in this paper, or at least provide a framework to answer them through the attempt of clarifying what the definition of public service incorporates into its jurisdiction.
