As a novice nurse, fresh out of school and excitingly concluding my orientation on a busy intensive care unit, I have felt a range of emotions throughout my experiences as a preceptee. The most frightening moment of all was to embark on this journey not as a student nurse, but as a “staff nurse”, especially in the ICU. I have anticipated this transition to be long and difficult and rightly so; however, I quickly came to realize that an amazing preceptor is not only crucial in this expedition but completely necessary for my sanity. With that being said, I would like to highly recommend Megan Brown, my preceptor for the last few months, as she put forth her application to advance in her career development pathway at PinnacleHealth. For the duration of my orientation, I found Megan to not just be a preceptor, but a colleague, friend, and thankfully a mentor who has provided me with a safe learning environment free of judgment. I have graciously found that her method of teaching is one that is remarkably conducive to personal growth. I am certain that every nurse at West Shore’s intensive care unit can attest to Megan’s daily adherence to the standards of nursing excellence. She has consistently placed her patient’s interest and wellbeing above her own, making her one of the leading patient advocates in the hospital. I am amazed by her dedication in patient education as well as family involvement. In addition, I have witnessed her capabilities as a team player through collaborations with other health care providers. What I believe to be her most professional characteristic is her humbleness and modest attitude as she is continuously trying to outgrow
