On Monday the 19th of April my class and I had the pleasure of attending the dress rehearsal for the new play Successions by Michaela Di Cesare at Centaur Theatre. This play was directed by Tamara Brown and stared four very talented actors. I found this play to be enjoyable in terms of viewing, but frustrating in terms of story. It had left quite an impression on me, albeit somewhat negative. However I find that being left with a strong negative impression is better than not being affected by the play at all. As the purpose of plays are to stimulate a response from the audience.
In regards to the actors and their acting, I found myself with an abundance of mixed reviews. Keeping in mind that this was their first viewing with an audience I can understand that this performance differs from what is currently being preformed; as is the thing with live theatre. Beginning with the eldest brother, the character Anthony was played by actor Carlo Mestroni. I found that this actor most definitely did not struggle

It looked very similar to the house in Saint-Leonard, at least in the more suburb areas. I found that the house fit the mood with the brick walls and dirty interior. The furniture was scattered about the set and caused conflict in moving about. Which I found helped instigate a sense of frustration. As it would if one person walked into a very messy room, it leaves someone with a sense of being uncomfortable and constricted in movement. I found that the costumes were well suited to each character, the higher class couple looked very political while the lower class couple had a more free flow and casual look. In regards to the lighting, I found it was very confusing. The outside of the house made it seem like it was night, yet they had used the lighting from the open window to brighten the room. Therefore you could not get a clear understanding of what time of day it
Many, if not all, plays are written to evoke thoughts from people in the audience. Through their scripts, authors deliver messages about their opinions on various issues ranging from gender roles to class ranks. These messages are developed to provoke thoughts and questions from people who experience performances. In the play Rome Sweet Rome, the Q Brothers Collective use both new and old theatrical techniques to make parallels between the Roman and United States governments by addressing issues involving women’s roles in society, class rank, and homosexuality. The play uses methods both similar and different to other classic plays to deliver a message that is relatable to issues in today’s world. This message is enhanced through the use of acting styles, set design, costumes, music, and lighting.
The acting in this musical was phenomenal. The puppets and the puppeteers were in sync with one another to the point that their outward appearance and facial expressions mirrored one another. I do not know if this was intentional of the director but it help to minimize the fact that there was someone else on stage holding the puppets. However, I often
I will be honest with you I had a lot of trouble enjoying the play, like I said the dialect gave me trouble, plus my seats were not that great. I did however like the movie quite a bit, but I realize I am a product of a different generation as well. I have been brought up around TV and movies rather than plays
He really made the audience believe that he was truly in love with Evalina through his expressions and the way he acted around her. I could see in the way he looked at the actress who played Evalina that he admired her and her presence. The actor who played Spunk had a very good singing voice and guitar skills. I really enjoyed watching him act as he was using his real life talents throughout the play. I did believe the characters to an extent. The dialogue was very realistic, but the way some characters delivered their lines was not adequate. On a scale of one to ten, the rating I would give the cast is an 8. The voices and overall acting was a lot better than I expected coming into the play. I cared a lot about what happened to the characters. When Spunk was fighting against Jim Bishop I did not want him to get hurt. When he came out with a wound I felt bad for him. I could also see the fear in Evalina’s eyes when she saw Spunk. The ending made me happy because I wanted Spunk and Evalina to be together and really cared for them. The choreography was blocked very well. The dances were very in sync and the positioning of the actors was successful. There was a lot of time in between scene changes and the directing did a good job of filling this time gap. When the narrator, Zora, came on stage, the actors were good at freezing in place while she spoke. I could tell that several hours and
As I have seen some performances prior to this one, my expectations are kind of not that high. As the play was prepared and performed by a team of theater students, I just expected there will be basic elements a play should have. I also did expect some extraordinary performances from the main actors because I got that every time I attended the plays on campus. LMU actors and actresses / theater-majors tended to surprise me every single time I attended their plays. I know they will eventually act for a living but the fact that they could memorize pages of script, successfully get into character and act all at the same time still baffled me very much.
I was particularly struck by the acting of Gracie Sartin. Her fearless approach to so many elements of the play – whether it was being hit on the head with an ironing board, hitting another costar with the ironing board, or giving one of her characters (Villian) an accent - was incredibly interesting to watch. Despite the fact that she portrayed six different people, she embodied them so well that I did not see Gracie in them. I saw only the characters she was portraying. The other actors were also successful in that ability. I think that achievement, combined with the success of the way the time constraints were embraced, added greatly to the success of the play.
They all clearly worked very very hard to be able to accurately portray their characters effectively. One thing that really stuck out to me was Dayandra Leos portrait of Jean. I am able to say this because I personally know Dayandra and saw her in many high school production, but she fully became Jean. At times, I even forgot who she was, I forgot that she wasn’t her character. It was amazing. This also had to be one of her best performances that i've seen her do. She was completely believable and I was stunned by her. Another performance I found to be shocking was Matt Magaldi portrayal of Gordon Gottlieb. His entire monologue in the middle of the play was just so funny and honestly very well done. I actually believed that he was a horrible guy who sold organs and only cared about himself. The fact that the audience could be so close and still be fully immersed into the world is pure talent.
This weekend I decided to go to a play that I have hear people talking about as I walked the streets. Many people were discussing the drama that goes behind this play and as much as I wanted to join the conversation, I had to find out for myself since no one will talk to me. I have much to say about this play so let’s get started shall we.
The Fall One Acts Performance that I watched on Saturday, November 14th, 2015 at 7:30 PM was magnificently performed, and the actors’ and actresses’ hard work was definitely carried out in this production. The two act plays that moved me the most were Livestock by Catherine Trieschmann and Till Death by Claudia Barnett because Ruby and Josh in Livestock were very comical and made me laugh many times, while the sentimental and intimate bond between Julian and Felicity in Till Death appealed to my emotions.
It is the kind of home neighbors would try to stay away from because of. The things that have happened there . The interior of the home would be laid out like a puzzle. Everyone one wound have their own bedroom and wound also have guest bedrooms. The dining room would have a large table with candles lit .The
The actors and actresses did well in their assigned rolls and I wish I could congratulate them on finishing the run. They worked together very well in all of the group musical numbers regardless of how hard they can be to coordinate at times. If I had to rate this performance of the musical it would get a 9/10. The acting, singing, costumes and costume changes, scenery and of course, the plot, are all wonderful and this is a must see. The only thing lacking was the cues and lighting, the use of the gobos was lacking and there was not as much color change as I would have enjoyed
When I first began directing, to me, the play was the thing. My mind was focused on the goings on of the stage with limited awareness beyond its borders. It seemed that dealing with the audience was somebody else’s job. If I directed a great play, I thought, people would come and like it. Job done. “Why this play now?” was a philosophical, intellectual question—but not something I really confronted in an educational setting.
This film will provide you with an enhanced understanding of the play. Although, it is misleading at times, this version of the play will keep you fully entertained for the full 111 minutes and provide you with extra knowledge of the play. Casting The majority of the cast was well selected,
I have never been involved with the production of any kind of play, so my partner and I decided that we would watch multiple versions of this play. There was Kenneth Branagh’s version which was sort of lack characteristic that we thought would be suiting for our “soap opera” themed performance.
On November 30, 2017, I viewed a play called Amadeus, from the comfort of my home. Didn’t think I would like it seeing that this would be my first time ever seeing a play like this one. I was thinking to myself am I going to like it, will I be able to sit through the whole play without being bored.
