Sugar is one of the main products that we consume on a daily basis in the twenty first century. However its important to acknowledge where sugar actually comes from and the process in which the Sugar conveniently appears in the nice paper packaging we’re lucky enough to find at our local super market. Sugar Cane is responsible for a storied past consisting of regretful practices such as the “middle passage” slave trade, to immense desire, to expansive distribution, to lucrative economical success which are still had to this day.
The plant itself came from humble beginnings and has a front row seat, as well as a hand in the way in which our world has developed. The key to such success is in the proper way in which it is grown and harvested, and if one is to expect high yields one must take care to practice the proper methods. Sugar Cane was once an indigenous plant of New Guinea, but due to its high desirability for production of sugar, and its rarity to the new world, it is now found just about everywhere but its native land.
