Suguru Ishizaki's Improvisational Design: Continuous Responsive Digital Communication
Digital communication is interactive, dynamic and continuous. People working with digital communication (visual designers, human-computer interaction professionals, and software engineers) need a unique set of communicative methods that equal this dynamic flow of digital communication expressions. Ishizaki explores the development of a theoretical framework of an iterative process that meets this need and suggests how designers might use the framework. The concept Ishizaki terms improvisational design is illustrated with five brief case studies in this slim nine-chapter book.

The adjustments take into consideration the inherent qualities of the medium, the audience to which it is "played," and the ever-changing nature and flow of the communication. Rather than proposing a normative design solution or a positive theory of design, this volume introduces an analytical tool as an "ice breaker" to provoke discussion among designers that may lead to "good" design processes and certainly, improvisational design extends our thinking about expressive digital communication.
Drawing upon the literature in performing arts and visual design, observations of traditional design constraints, and models of cooperative-situated agents (Hickman and Shiels, 1991) and Singh's model of group ability (1991, 1994), Ishizaki discovers that the complex temporal forms are required in the production of improvisational designs. The notion of temporal form can be expressed in the design through visual, auditory, or other components. It can change over time. The news story that is current today may be prominent in auditory and visual signals, but then recede in prominence over time and do so through the actions of design agents interacting with other dynamic design agents.

Our beliefs, time, money, and actions are all being fought over with design as the arsenal. The graphic designer learns how to participate in this fight through education, intuition, creativity, and technical skills. Though helpful, a formal education in design is not what is meant here. The education needed is more about understanding the previously mentioned rules we are working with. Intuition is required in order to know when it is appropriate to adjust or disregard these rules. Creativity is needed because redundancy will not break through the wall into the internal world. Technical skills are essential because poor craft reduces credibility. This idea of the world as an arena is a reoccurring theme in The Cheese Monkeys, and the importance of education, intuition, creativity, and technical skills have been further reinforced to us through the grading process and classroom discussions in Graphic Design
The fact that technology is evolving every second means that the way we design, create and even advertise it is changed. Designer can go a long way, in many different directions. Even though the innovations introduced have a major positive impact, they do have a negative one as well.
In the intro to The Dramatic Imagination, John Mason Brown wrote that Robert Jones’ theatre was “an extension of life, not a duplication, a heightening rather than a reproduction” (Jones 1). Of course, we know that plays are about ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances. However, Jones poses the question of what can designers do to heighten the “extraordinary circumstances” to the audience without interfering the message of the show? The Dramatic Imagination focused on most aspects of artistry in the theatre, including actors and designers. As someone who does not consider myself a designer, but is an actor with a liberal arts education, this was more helpful than only focusing on scenic design. Furthermore, it supported the need for intense collaboration between all theatre artists when working on a show, a highly valued characteristic of mine.

Depending on the industry, an entry-level designer can rise from senior designer, to art director, and then creative director. As digital media continues to mature, categorical design disciplines will continue to evolve, shape, and style the visual culture. From magazines to web pages, the spectrum of visual design will continue to move people everywhere on an emotional level.

Participants in a high-quality communication conversation are engaged in choosing a communication channel, sending clear messages, listening actively, and understanding others’ responses. When considering the one-way communication that occurs in media through various artists and communication professionals, we must recognize the importance of varying communication approaches.
Meredith Davis’s book “Graphic Design Theory” was published in September 2012 by Thames & Hudson. This book blends a study of historical thinking of design with contemporary / modern approach to it. It also suggests students to critically analyse their work and asks them to adopt the design theories to embellish their practical design work as it will help them construct better work. This book also helps in understanding the consumers and the history of Graphic Design and also talks about a range of theories and introduces a collection of concepts and sources for future use and reference. In this book, Meredith Davis talks about the relationship of visual representation to the contexts of design. It talks about focusing on the broad and long term aftereffects of design and not to design only for the moment and responding to prompt needs.
Within this essay i will be writing about interaction design i will cover my chosen subject in detail via the extensive research i have gathered. I will define and analyse interaction design using key examples of this design practise both historical and contemporary.
