Description: I had the chance to work on multiple manuscripts pertaining to colorectal cancer in African Americans and Caucasians. My contribution included compiling the results from each experiment and inputting them into the corresponding manuscript, creation of all necessary tables and figures, as well as proofreading all sections to correct any mistakes.
Summary: I worked with a team of PhDs and physicians to complete multiple manuscripts in a short period of time. I had no prior knowledge of colorectal cancer research, nor the process of publishing a research paper. However, I took it upon myself to learn about similar studies and the process of developing such research papers. As a result of my excellent work and extensive contributions,
I worked with Dr. Nayeem at Doctors Community Hospital as well as at two different clinics . The mental health clinics were OMNI House and Optimum Health Systems, located in Glen Burnie and Baltimore, Maryland, respectively. At all three locations I was able to work independently under supervision. I was able to perform psychiatric evaluations as well as mental status examinations typing in my findings into the computer which was then checked and evaluated by Dr. Nayeem. I was able to use the electronic medical records they used including Anasazi and Valant in the clinic settings and Meditech at the hospital. I was exposed to many cases in the clinics such follow-up cases which needed medication managment and Crisis evaluations. At the hopsital
Today I worked on my patient Evelyn Serrano. I started and finished periodontal instrumentation. During the morning section I started with a power instrumentation of the maxillary arch, followed with the application of the topical anesthetic oraqix. As part of treatment, chronic periodontitis includes Scaling and Root Planing (SRP), which is experienced by a significant number of patients as painful and uncomfortable. Occasionally, topical anesthetics such as Oraqix is used in order to reduce pain and discomfort. Oraqix consists of an eutectic mixture of 5% lidocaine and prilocaine (each gram contains 25-mg lidocaine and 25-mg prilocaine. Consequently, the anesthetic material is liquid at room temperature and chances into a gel at body temperature. The anesthetic solution is applied on the
Upon arrival, Murielle had a stack of paper work that she needed to record in the computer system and filed. Though I wanted to help Murielle, I first had to assist Maggie with two hot packs, one for the shoulder and the other for the wrist. While patients sat with their pain management therapy for 8 minutes, I started organizing the paper to file during my spare time. Maggie and Issac was working on a patient's splint, while I supervised the two patients who were waiting to be seen. Once Maggie was available to assist the patients, she handed me their intervention sheet, which I was able to use as a guideline for the exercising equipments that I would need to set up for each patient. Both patient therapeutic session was difference since both
Days before finals week Maria was in her dorm room studying. She had a physiological dependence to coffee. Maria had total focused awareness after drinking her tenth cup. Her constant and frequent consumption of coffee every day led her to building up a tolerance. As a result, she has to drink ten cups of coffee every day or else it wouldn’t stimulant her. This led her to have a superstitious behavior that if she didn’t drink ten cups of coffee before an exam she wouldn’t do amazing on it. After consistent bombardment of assignments and tests Maria started to feel the stress of finals week. Maria tried meditation to help stop the stress but it didn’t work. After a while Maria started to lose focus and started off to drifting consciousness.

One challenge I was faced with while on CE I, was while working with a patient she was talking badly about one of the receptionist. The patient calling the receptionist incompetent, since the receptionist had messed up the patient’s appointment time for the second time in two weeks. I was put in an uncomfortable position because I did not want to be rude to the patient, but also did not want to be apart of the patient talking badly about my coworker.
During my stay, I rotated with an inpatient hospitalist team at Enloe Hospital. I rounded on patients admitted to inpatient wards and ICU

Nine studies ranging from 1977-2016 met inclusion criteria. A total of 132510 subjects were studied, 27690 subjects were cases/cohort of interest, and 104820 subjects were controls. Subjects had the following cancer sites: prostate (12%), colorectal (12%), breast (6%), kidney (4%), liver (3%), pancreas (3%), gastric (2%), and other/unspecified (46%). Six studies were conducted in Europe (ardent 2016, arnalich, geissbuhler 2010, ryg 2013, johansson 2008 and 2014), two studies were conducted in Asia (lin 2010, cui2016), and one study was conducted in the United States of America (carmel 1977). Three studies used a case-control study design providing a combined total of 1737 cases and 2608 controls recruited between 1992-2011. (cui 2016, johansson 2008 and 2014) Four studies used a cohort design providing 25653 subjects compared with 102212 controls recruited between 1983-2013. (arendt 2016, arnalich 1990, lin 2010, ryg 2013) Two studies used a cross-sectional design containing 300 subjects recruited before 1990.
