My journey with Andrew started in September of 2014. On the first day of classes at Hofstra, I was a transfer student from Nassau Community College. I didn't know a single student sitting around me. I knew I wanted to get involved on campus but didn't know where to begin. Upon speaking to Andrew, I didn't realize that I was speaking to the President of Hofstra University’s ALPFA chapter. He began to tell me about ALPFA and how it's paved his transition from being a student into a professional in the workplace. From that moment on, Andrew always provided career guidance, networking help, and acted as a mentor for me whenever I needed it. I can't thank Andrew enough for all the help he's given me over the past year. He's passionate about everything
Maitland Faucheux is known by “Spuddy” to just about everyone. I met Spuddy though Alumni connections from my advisor. I did not know really much about him but when I talked to him over the phone he seemed really eager to do an interview. Mr. Faucheux actually majored in Computer Science at Nicholls University. He originally wanted to go to a technical school for electronics. Somehow one of his friends from high school ended up talking him into going to college. His friend had heard about the Computer Science major from one of his friends and talked to him about it. He worked in that major for 10 years before he got tired of the repetitive behavior. He also worked at a plant in Vacherie and a sales person for toiletries. Being around people was not a problem because he worked with people since he was 8 years old. He knew that he wanted to own his own business one day. When he opened Spuddy’s Cajun Food he
Every Saturday morning while the majority of the student body is still fast asleep, I am pouring coffee and preparing for work. I am a Student Ambassador, a job which entails guiding prospective students around campus, encouraging them to become a part of the Mount Union family. Not long ago I was in their footsteps; a prospective student searching for the school that would become my home away from home. My dad, an alumni of Mount Union, enthusiastically retold the memories of his experiences at the university. Memories, which he claimed, “shaped him into the man he is today.” Little did I know that I too would follow in my father's footsteps and grow to find a forever home within the Mount Union community.
So you may be wondering why the RA Selection Committee is reaching out to you and that’s a great question. The thing is we have RA Signing Day coming up for the RAs and we would like to be able to introduce you to your staff. Now I know your thinking, Michael I can’t very well leave because of this that and the other, but here’s the fun part! We want you to make a short video introducing yourself
My involvement has impacted countless students by exposing them to the various areas of finance and has helped strengthen the club’s Calgary industry network. Furthermore, over my past two years with the club, I consistently worked with a diverse group of students to problem solve, research markets and write articles, which strengthened my teamwork skills substantially. I also realized that I am passionate about working with others to grow organizations, I hope to eventually lead the HFC and help develop its footprint internationally into other major financial centers. This will aide in growing Haskayne’s alumni network further, and will serve as a resource for future students to
I don’t care how old I get, traveling with Dr. Hopson will always be intimidating, because she’s watching. She’s listening and expecting nothing but the best. However, with her, you meet the biggest and brightest shining stars. General Conference was the perfect networking opportunity, and a chance to see all of God’s children assemble for the work of his kingdom. From Africa University’s performance to Higher Education Night, General Conference was full of praise and bustle. Did I forget to mention our BCF table? We took to the floor with BCF paraphernalia and worked the audience, all while thanking them for supporting our education. It was certainly a joy to work together and to hear people ask for more. The greatest time during the conference was lunch with Dr. Haywood L. Strickland. His kindred spirt and humorous character was easy to follow and love. I’ll never forget his dear words as he talked about his struggle to the top, “I was getting just what I asked for from God, nothing more, nothing less. Then, I realized I needed to ask for
My internship at FuturePerfect Ventures has been an incredible learning experience and a stepping-stone for a fulfilling career path. I have known that I wanted to pursue a career in financial communications before I even started the internship search process. My experience at FuturePerfect Ventures not only solidified my desire to work in this specific industry but also gave me the opportunity to build on my existing skills and allowed me to have first-hand experience in this area. Thus, my internship at FuturePerfect Ventures has been, in many ways, more than a learning experience but also what Nathaniel Kolac, the author of the Harvard Business Review article, “Build a Career Worth Having, refers as a valuable stepping stone, one of the many experiences that help create the path to a successful, fulfilling career.
With this lesson in mind, I continued my job hunt. A month had passed before I was offered an interview for another internship in Queens. Over the next few days, I have been offered a position at NYS Veteran's Home in St. Albans, where I socially work with mentally and physically disabled veterans.
Call center reps often approach him for assistance because they can count on him to resolve their customer’s issues. He uses his past experience as a Dispatch Lead to provide assistance to agents and supervisors to complete tasks and look up information that allows for a faster resolution to customer issues. Andrew’s passion for sports is an attribute to our call center as he is able to assist agents who have limited knowledge. Everyone in the call center know they can approach him with anything related to sports programming and he will most likely know the answer right away. He is always able to tell agents what channel each sports program will be on and is able to inform on the blackout
The opportunity to gain knowledge from multiple career paths made me excited to attend. One leader spoke of learning about career paths he didn’t know existed. He explained that he spoke with individuals who worked in group. He explained how that help develop his desire to work in group. I felt that I knew of multiple career paths from my experience but came prepared to learn from multiple people.
Growing up in a family of nine, my father’s childhood was rough. Money was always scarce and all his family was one another. That was until his dad died in a fatal car accident. My father, being the oldest, started working to provide money for the family. There were weeks when he would exert himself for 80 hours just to make ends-meet. Despite my father’s harsh workload, he pushed himself to excel in school. He managed to maintain his straight ‘A’ record, but college was an expense that would put him into crushing debt. My dad needed somebody who believed in him, somebody who saw him as a strong-willed, rising star that would stop at nothing to prevent him from success. Hariri saw himself in my father. He knew that the only thing holding him back from becoming successful was his financial status. Hariri ended up funding my father a full ride scholarship to the University of Massachusetts, where he completed his four year degree in Engineering. After graduating and gaining work experience, my father was able to land his dream career at Johnson Controls. Rafic Hariri’s generosity towards my dad is priceless. I'll always be grateful for how Rafic Hariri has impacted my father’s life for the
The journey began with me in my final months of my senior year in high school. I
I am initiating a meeting with you based on dialogue I had with my manager, Andrew Raven. He believes that under your tutelage I can be informed and guided accordingly to realize my career goals.
As most of you may know, I am a freshman at Pierpont Community & Technical College and majoring in Baking and Pastry Arts. At the beginning of the semester I was invited to Chi Alpha, an on campus ministry, and immediately I could tell that it was where I wanted, and needed, to be. I was already familiar with what Chi Alpha was but I had no idea how much fun and life changing that it actually could be. My first semester of college would have been completely different if I had not gotten involved with my Lifegroup and growing my relationship with God and my Chi Alpha family.
I am passionate about helping individuals so I can understand their obstacles and ambitions for their future. I hope to impact others with my past experiences in the hopes that the combination of the two would be an asset and a great tool for me to use in coaching and
Shadowing is a wonderful way to experience the daily functions of a Student Affairs Administrator. For this assignment I chose to shadow an administrator in the Career Services Department. Ben Rohde, who is the Director of Career Services at Concordia University Wisconsin allowed me to gain a positive incite of the department. There was a lot to take away from this assignment. I learned how critical the Department of Career Services is not only to a college but also to its students. Some of the services that are offered are career counseling, career/major exploration, LinkedIn development, networking opportunities, occupation research, internship assistance, resume building, cover letter assistance, ect.
