In Capitalism: A Love Story- Michael Moore sheds light on the capitalist system that has caused much of society’s problems. This documentary emphasizes how the capitalist system has benefited only the top one percent by further concentrating their wealth at the expense of the working class. In order to explain how the capitalist system operates, Moore examines how politicians are bought by corporations, homes are repossessed, and how families are exploited by peasant’s insurance and private ‘for-profit’ prisons. The documentary begins with Moore explaining the decline of the Roman empire. Corporations like Walmart are taking out life insurance policies (mostly known as dead peasant’s insurance) on its employees and when the employee passes away the company receives a huge paycheck. One family that was interviewed, both husband and wife, worked at Walmart. The husband had worked for Walmart longer than his wife did before she passed away. After she had passed the family found out that Walmart had taken out an insurance policy in her name. The husband talked about their struggle to pay for medical bills along with other expenses after his wife died, but Walmart did not give them a cent from the insurance policy they took out in his wife’s name. This family’s testimony demonstrates the extent of the capitalist’s greed. Capitalists will do anything to increase their profits even if it means becoming unprincipled and profiting off their employee’s deaths. In their eyes, employees are more valuable dead than they are alive because they are no longer investing in them. Along with creating greater economic inequality, the capitalist system is shaping a society where morality and ethics no longer
