The importance of this article is Women's Right are equal to human rights. Donald Trump saying was “Make America Great Again” but my question is what does it mean because nothing was great. For example Women did have rights as a whole while men fought in war boys could be sent to War before puberty. This relates to history for example Susan B. Anthony who fought for women's right. I would just like to finish off is this is history and I stand with all the women who march or would have been there to march.
For example in the letter Abigail Adams wrote to John Adam she stated that “I desire you would remember the ladies and be more generous to them then your ancestors.” (Doc B). This document explains how Abigail Adams wrote a letter to the President, her husband john Adams explaining her view on how women should have rights. It’s important because they had an idea that the women should have rights to get an education so that they can educate the children (men) to become better citizens. From the Declaration of Seneca falls women’s rights convention Elizabeth Cady Stanton was quoted saying “The history of mankind is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations on the part of man toward women.”(Doc J). This means that the ideas of equality, liberty, and inalienable rights were battling in American civilization with common laws and religious traditions of the agreement of husband and wife. It is important because this goal was not realized until after this time. Women wanted rights as same as everyone else. In the court case Dred Scott v. Sanford the US Supreme Court chief justice Roger Taney was quoted saying “[blacks] had no rights which the white man was bound to respect; and the Negro might justly and lawfully be reduced to slavery.” (Doc L). This quotes means that even though blacks had no rights, the whites should still have respect for them, they are people too. It’s important because it’s another goal that the declaration
Our America by LeAlan Jones and LLoyd Newman makes readers feel bad about children deaths in Chicago which inspires people to help even though it makes readers feel bad.
In Langston Hughes poem “Let America be America Again” he talks about how America should return to the way that it was perceived to be in the dreams before America was truly America. Throughout the poem he uses various methods to evoke the patriotic images and dreams that he feels America should and will eventually be. Hughes states that America is supposed to be a place of equality for everyone including both white and colored people. During this period in time though there was not equality for everyone. Hughes talks about an America where both whites and colored people will have equality in all aspects socially, politically, and economically. What Hughes is saying is that both whites and colored
Politicians have used fear during a time full of a sense of disorder in order to gain popularity. The reaction to fear is universal and everyone is susceptible to it, forcing them to seek refuge/comfort. Political candidates then take advantage and paint themselves as a form of refuge. This makes fear a favorable strategy for politicians to gain popularity votes. Fear has the power to persuade voters more than any other strategies as seen in modern day politics and in 1964.
With the advancement of suffrage to equal pay, over the last century, women’s rights have progressed immensely. Through historic marches and demonstrations across the United States, women protested for their equal place in politics and social progress. Despite the fear-mongering components used in achieving these rights, women’s rights are still thoroughly debated within society today. Over the last century, incredible and unreachable goals have been fulfilled for women, such as the right to vote and a sense of equal state in the “Free World,” and can only improve in the years to come.
James Baldwin and Langston Hughes wrote two pieces of literature, Baldwin's letter to his nephew at the beginning of The Fire Next Time and Hughes’ “Let America be America Again”, to show how minorities, specifically African-American, struggled in America. Both authors write how about minorities are oppressed and how they have to fight oppression in order to realize “The American Dream” and overcome obstacles the white American man did not have. The two pieces give an insight on how, not only the African-Americans but also “the red man” and “the refugee”, are oppressed in America. Leonard Pitts work is about how Americans tip-toe around the problems is their country. Pitts statement in his article is that Americans need to realize what is wrong with America and how they need to work together to fix it.
Through out history, Americans have fought for the rights of freedom in their country, freedoms that have been passed down through dozen’s of generations. Freedom’s such as religion, speech, press, slavery and the right to vote. Americans, though very aware of their freedoms, often take them for granted and forget the struggles that their ancestors went through to obtain them. One example of this struggle is a woman’s right to be treated and looked upon by the government as equals. This was not an easy battle to win, and it took a strong few to begin to bring the struggle that women had faced for centuries to an end.
Women’s rights have improved drastically since that time but there still is a stigma that men are better than women. This type of view is wrong and shouldn’t even be thought about in the world we live into today. Woman server a great purpose in the world we live in and should be considered equal in all aspects of life. If one were to ponder this idea seriously we can see without out women no children are born. The sad truth is that women still have to fight for their rights in every aspect of their daily lives. The typical women in society makes only .70 cents for every dollar that a man would make doing the same job. One would think that one hundred and fifty years later women would be considered equal counterparts to men. “There has been progress toward greater workplace equality, but we still have a long ways to
Paragraph: On July 19, 1849, 300 people arrived for the Seneca Falls Convention. Similarly to the Declaration of Independence, they made the Declaration of Sentiments, which listed the acts of tyranny of men over women. Before this convention, women were not allowed to speak in most meetings. This angered many women, inspiring them to fight for women rights. One example of this was during the World Anti-Slavery Convention in London in 1840. Men did not even want them to watch, so they tried to hide them behind curtains. Women couldn’t get jobs, even if they were the best in the class. Many people believed that they had to protest for reform about slaves and women rights.
And after all that fighting the only thing they got was some property rights to married women, but nonetheless the most important thing is that this movement lead to something bigger in the future and gave the bravery to other woman to follow on the work of those who fought so harsh to get at least some rights and eventually woman’s gained little by little their full rights. Therefore, due to the hard work of these women their rights were coming to surface little by little.
From 1954 to today, the United States has transmuted tremendously due to the Civil Rights Movement. Most of today’s equality and society originated from this significant movement that took place during 1954-1968. It has centuries from when Abraham Lincoln delivered the Emancipation Proclamation, and the signs of change has been began to materialize now. Looking back at history and examining the differences between this day to another day back in history, there will be major activities and objects that did not continue to this day- for example, slavery. There is enough evidence from the past to state that the young country has matured and became more equal for its citizens. Even data for gender equality, such as the chart
Kevin Van Valkenburg’s multiple articles on New England Patriots’ quarterback Tom Brady are unique due to how they humanize a polarizing star. Ever since his breakout 2001 season, where the Patriots defeated the St. Louis Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI, Brady has adhered to the policy of the “Patriot Way,” where players under head coach Bill Belichick and owner Robert Kraft reveal next to nothing to the media and the public eye.
Donald Trump is our absolute last hope for not just the United States of America but the entire world.
Written in the first half of the 20th century, “Let America Be America” is a poem that documents and responds to the oppressed state of the United States, in both the past and present. The poem is a plea for a return to the original principles of freedom that our country has seemingly forgotten. Additionally, the speaker sees America as the broken home to oppressed people who have lost sight of the ultimate goal of freedom and happiness. Although America is often perceived as the “land of the free,” Langston Hughes’s poem contradicts this ideology by not only painting a vivid picture of oppression in America but also by providing a desperate hope for the future.
Women, their rights and nothing less.” This is her point of view on the way women were
