In Matthews Quicks novel “Sorta like a Rock Star” Amber is considered to be “sorta like a rock star,” however she doesn't believe herself to be on till the very end of the novel. Amber lived a life of poverty, mostly due to her mother’s instability and her train of bad boyfriends. Ambers mother was also smoked and was addicted to alcohol causing her the little money she made from her job by buying cigarettes and alcohol. These conditions caused amber to do more for her community she is considered a very spirited and up lifting teen in her community. While she might have not thought of her life to be amazing she lived through the hope of others when really she was seen as the source of hope. Amber later comes around when they notice something wrong with her dog BBB. They take him tot the doctor and they find that he has cancer, amber feels the need to pay for his surgery since Dona has done so much for her. Amber finally goes back to school and she seeks help with ideas to earn money for his surgery when they come up with the grand plan of having a variety show for BBB in the school’s auditorium. Everyone joins in to help her they plans the show that amber will host. When they get to the show many people are there from the community from her closet 5 friends, the elders from the retirement home, Private Jackson, and many other people Amber had never seen before then. As amber walks past all the people in line to get into her show they all cheer for her , which makes amber feel awkward at first but the awkwardness turns into a mighty amount of confidence which amber uses to the source of hope and let her inner rock star shine through. April had a good stay with the Dion’s but she had to go to a new foster home because April’s foster Mom got sick and couldn’t take care of her. April moved further from her family because they didn’t take good care of April and Cheryl. April met new friends at school, a girl named Jennifer and they became really good friends. Jennifer always mailed April the letters that Cheryl sent to April and always sewed April clothes so she would look better.
When Ruby goes to her room the reader discovers that Ruby is very a materialistic girl, she begins to complain about her phone as well as how she requires makeup to look good when she goes out, she’s more worried about her appearance than the real problem at hand which is acid rain that can brutally murder someone if they come in contact with it. Simon informs that her shower and sink are temporarily disabled until further notice, this infuriates Ruby which causes her to yell and almost erupt in tears, and this shows that she is very concerned about her presentation to go visit her boyfriend who’s on the verge of death in a post apocalyptic setting. Ruby’s neighbor, Mrs. Fintch asks for assistance and that she requires medicine due to the fact that she was infected and was currently bleeding at a rapid state. Ruby suggests her mom to ignore her and just forget she’s there, to save the medicine for people who really matter like herself. Her mom gives Ruby a foul look and continues to give Mrs. Fintch the medicine, Ruby says she’s wasting her time, but her mom continues to aid the poor old lady who is in desperate need. He pulled a wad of gum out of his mouth and dropped it in Nick’s mashed potatoes.” Val had a lot of pain and sadness in her, after Nick shot people. “I’d spend about an hour in my room darkening around me, wondering what the hell happed to make me so unsure of who I even was. Because who you are is supposed to be the easiest question in the world to answer, right only for me it hadn’t been easy for a very long time.” Dr. Hieler had to help Val problem solve. “Dr. Hieler demonstrates his love for other people. Even though Dr.Hieler knew that Valerie’s boyfriend was the killer. He still said “I’m sorry.”
Then Alison gets a letter from the people from Zip magazine. She hides it from her parents and then reads it. It says that if she wins the modeling competition, she will receive a $10,000 scholarship, and Alison knows what’s she going to do she is going to win that money for her family, then her parents will finally see her as just as good as her two sisters.
Each little thing that goes on reminds him of what happened with his brother. His friends, and his home life is hard on him everyday. He goes home and gets reminded by his mother on how he is not his brother Buck. She will not look at him the same or treat him the same way she did when Buck was around. Now that he is gone she only gives him the physical needs, no emotional support on his life. Beth never asks her son how he is feeling and how his school life is going. Conrad feels unwanted and not needed in his home life. He has no support and so he always feels like he has to put on a show just to get by. Conrad finally realizes that he needs someone to talk to, so he finally goes to a psychiatrist to get some help. The psychiatrist helps Conrad go through all his thoughts and help him realize what he needs to say and do. He finally has enough confidence to tell his best friend why he is avoiding him and never wants to hang out with him anymore. When he had a chance he striked back at his mother's harsh remarks to him.He got tired of trying to walk around her. He had enough courage and confidence to tell her how she made him feel. When Conrad and his dad was putting up the Christmas tree, and she walked in without an hello and started questioning him why he quit the swim team. She managed to get out of the grip that vulture has on the street kids and decided to create a life of her own. Her efforts do continuously get insulted when people call her shelter a “dump” or call her things such as “slut” or “whore”, she still manages to get by on her own. Furthermore, near the end of the novel, amber was still seen trying to clean herself up before the baby was going to be born she was trying to change her street habits and become a more sophisticated version of herself. At the time when Amber was trying to help Dylan out after he got beaten up by other street kids, she said “yeah, i know. I’ll clean up my mouth after it’s born.
She finds letters and poems that her mom wrote before she died, one telling about her secret boyfriend, and another telling about what she wants to happen to her when she dies. Barbara is shocked after learning about this secret boyfriend and is confused on why her mom would keep it from not only her, but her entire family. Trying to stay focused, Barbara carefully reads the other letter, which tells of how Evelyn wants to be cremated, put into a bowling ball that her boyfriend, Raoul, gave her, and dropped into the middle of lake Wobegon. Barbara is very confused by all this, but it’s what her mother wanted, so she feels like she should do it. Barbara eventually tells her son, Kyle, about the death of his grandma, and eventually everyone else that their family knew, including Raoul.
Bobby tells Jacy that when she loses her virginity, she can come back to him - making Jacy eager to get her first time over with. Sonny and Duane go off to Mexico (this happens off screen) to go drink, party and have fun. When they get back, hung over, they see that the restaurant is closed, which is very odd because they never close, not even on holidays. They’re curious and go ask a man named Andy only to find out that Sam the lion had died of a stroke the morning before. The next day they go to Sam’s funeral. Everyone is there, for Sam was a very well-known man who everyone enjoyed having around. After the funeral, Duane and Jacy meet in a small motel room and whisper to each other “I love you”. They had planned on having sex, but for some reason, Duane was unable to perform and Jacy gets very mad at him and tells him not to leave the room yet so that everybody won’t know they didn’t have sex. Outside, are a few teenage girls eager to listen to Jacy about how it went - and Jacy tells them it was
Amber is Chris's on and off boyfriend. Amber and Chris has really bad issues with their relationship. A few weeks had gone by since “Chris” killed Chris, and Amber has noticed something has been strange with Chris for a few weeks. Another week or two has passed by and Amber has figured it out, she has figured out “Chris” isn’t Chris. Amber confronts “Chris” about the situation, and Chris tells her the truth about everything. Amber is important to the novel because she is the one who is slowly but surely bringing humanity into “Chris”.
Aubrey hatred towards the Treblemakers is so unbearable that if you are a part of the Barden Bellas you cannot have intercourse with anybody who is a Treblemaker. Aubrey never thought that she will need the Treblemakers a day in her life but one day, a very infamous day for Aubrey personally. The day Aubrey Posen had to swallow her pride. It all started when the Bellas was going to an acapella competition, when they made a routine stop to get gas, but the Bellas could not accomplish their goal because while they were trying to get gas the Treblemakers were riding past and decided to throw a burrito at Fat Amy, which caused her to get off task. After the Bellas encountered an act of foolishness with the Treblemakers, the Bellas shook it off and continued the trip, but out of nowhere while Fat Amy was driving the Bellas just hear a certain noise like the bus is breaking down. All of sudden Fat Amy realizes she did not complete her task of refilling the tank. Chole comes up with a bright idea by saying “maybe we can call” (Pitch Perfect) with Aubrey saying “don’t even say it” (Pitch Perfect) because Aubrey knows who Chloe is going to say, the only people they can call. Then the scene just changes with the Barden Bellas on the bus with their archrival the Treblemakers, which means Aubrey had to agree. Without the notorious Treblemakers, the Bellas will not make it to the ICCA Finals. Aubrey exhibits growth as a person by her swallowing her pride, so the Bellas can make it to the next
On their way home, they come across the polar bear that Terra killed on her way to save Quake. The owner spotted something small crawling around on it. He stopped the truck, got out, and walked over to the moving object. There was a skinny puppy that looked as though it had not eaten in weeks. When the owner got closer the dog growled furiously at him. The owner tried to gain its trust and when he finally did, the puppy ran to the owner, who then realized it was Storm. In the beginning, we are introduced to the Amber Billows’ father, Mr. Billows. He begins to explain that he has a big surprise, which is that he and the family is moving to Hawaii. Amber explains that she has moved 3 times (not including the time she moved from NYC to Washington), and that she does not want to move again, but the family needs to move because of Dad’s job as a news reporter. She believes that her father chooses the worst times to move, and that is when she finally settles in one place. She then gets angry at her dad for another move and storms off into her room. Her mother comes down to talk to her and explains that there is no choice, but she feels the same way, and she thinks that her father and her brother (Andy Billows) do, too. Amber feels better with her mom’s words, but she decides to stay in her room anyway, and the next day, she begins her research on Hawaii….
