I think Ashleigh decided to not steal the money. I believe this because Ashleigh knows her dad has made any promises in the past that he has not kept, and she might not trust her dad. In the beginning of the story, Ashleigh says how her father couldn't keep a promise, which I think is foreshadowing that he won't keep the promise that he’ll pay back the money. Also, there are a few flashbacks in the story about times when he made a promise and did not go through with it, “Dad used to promise me the stars for a necklace, but like most of his promises, that one never quite happened”. This quote proves this claim about Ashleigh’s dad. Later on in the story she also explains that before her parents split up, it was little things her dad did that
Ashleigh took the money since she loves her dad. Ashleigh loves how her dad says you're one in a million. “I knew I wasn't a one-in-a-million-girl,no matter how often Dad told me I was.I still loved hearing him say it”(Pfeffer, 2). Ashes loves how her dad makes her feel special whenever she sees him. In the story “Ashes” it says on the first page”And I realized he still called me Ashes, were Mom couldn’t hear him to be annoyed. And that made me feel special all over again”(Pfeffer). Ashes loves her dad since he is fun to be with.”I wouldn't have any other dad.” I told him.”My friends fathers, they just tell my friends to study more. They never tell them they have flair or style”(Pfeffer,2). Ashleigh stole the money due to the fact that she loved her dad and how he is fun
In the end, I believe that Ashleigh will take the money. Only because her father treats her better, and makes her feel better about herself. Her mother just doesn't have the comfort quality. Ashleigh is being pressured by her father, and she realizes that it's already set up and ready to take action. She is trusting her father to be able to pay back her mother’s money and for her not be caught. Ashleigh’s decision will be highly effective for her, and both her parents...no matter what it may
Ashleigh’s choice was to obey her dad.Ashleigh had a tough choice to make, she could either leave her mom’s money and not touch it like her mom had always told her,or she could obey her dad who said he needed it.She made the decision of obeying her dad and stole the money, the reasons why she decided to
To quote Ma Joad in the film The Grapes of Wrath, “I ain 't never gonna be scared no more. I was, though. For a while it looked as though we was beat. Good and beat. Looked like we didn 't have nobody in the whole wide world but enemies. Like nobody was friendly no more. Made me feel kinda bad and scared too, like we was lost and nobody cared....Rich fellas come up and they die, and their kids ain’t no good and they die out. But we keep a comin’, we’re the people that live. They can’t wipe us out; they can’t lick us. We’ll go on forever Pa, ‘cause we’re the people.” This statement captures the resilience of the American working class since the birth of the country. Ma 's speech can be read as a proclamation of necessary fictions to bolster the morale of the family. She is the uncomplaining maintainer of status quo in the home, the ultimate mother figure who not only attends to physical needs, but mental needs as well.
Ye, have heard that it hath been said, "Thou shalt love thy neighbor, and hate thine enemy." But I say unto you, "Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hat you, and pray for them which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
In conclusion, Ashleigh did not take the money because she did not want to make her mom mad, she would not have been able to give the money to her dad because he drove away, and she respected both of her parents. If you were in this position, what would you have done? Would you have taken the money, or left it in the teapot so you did not get in trouble? Ashleigh’s parents divorce might have had a big part in her decision. Ashleigh was put in the middle of her parents, which is intimidating when her parents are divorced. It puts even more stress on her to make the
It is hard to imagine what it is like to lose everything, and Cheryl was not accepting her new reality. At the start of her memoir she viewed herself as the victim, along with the fact that she wished she had, “A father who loved you as a father should [that] was greater than his parts” (133). Her biological father was a really father in name only, and he was extremely vicious and abusive to the children and their mother. When a stepfather, Eddie came into the family, he was by no means a good father, however in comparison to their biological father Eddie was an amazing man. After her mother’s death, Eddie tried to move on and Cheryl was upset because she expected more from him. She wanted him to be there for her. She cannot imagine a good father because both men fell short of her expectations of what a father should do. In this painful time, Cheryl longed to find a way to run from all her problems:
“Ashes” by Susan Beth Peffer is about Ashley's love for her dad. Even though he's not the ideal dad, he's charming and kind but, at the same time he is also manipulative and irresponsible. .Ashleigh’s dad manipulates his daughters unconditional love for him rather than taking responsibility for his actions. Ashleigh wants to steal the money because she wants to help her dad. She doesn't want him to get into trouble, and she feels sorry for him.
In chapters 28-30, At the cotton fields, the Joads were given a box car to live in, but they were forced to live with another family, the Wainwrights. They made money, so they were able to buy some clothes and food. Ma Joad was even able to eat and treat Ruthie and Winfield to a Cracker Jack candy. When a girl took Ruthie's candy, the girl wanted to fight her and Ruthie told the girl that her brother has killed 2 men. Joad rushed to tell Tom that her secret was out. When Ma returned to the box car a small farmer told her that he need some picker for his 20 acres. The men were forced to beg or steal the food. The rain made the rivers overflow. On the third day of the storm, it still began to continue pouring so sign of clearing. On the sixth
In the intercalary chapter with the tenacious turtle, bounteous obstacles of nature and man impeded the turtle’s lengthy journey southwest, but the turtle persevered in the end. For example, when the turtle first appears, he soon saw “the hill, which was the highway embankment, reared up ahead of him” (Steinbeck 14). He thrust with his back legs and pulled with his front legs until he conquered the slope. Secondly, “A red ant ran into the shell, into the soft skin inside the shell” (Steinbeck 15), agitating the turtle’s sensitive inner skin. To remedy this irritation, the turtle yanked in his extremities, effectively crushing the red ant. An instance of humanity harming the tough turtle occurred when a truck driver swerved out of his way in an attempt to hit the turtle, directly after a woman almost
Ashe’s dad did many sweet things for her so she decided to steal the money. Ashe’s dad gave her roses or sang her a song which cheered her up. Ashleigh’s dad would do nice things for her because she was his daughter, but also because he wanted her to favor him. Ashes and her dad like to treat themselves to nice dinners every once in awhile. Ashleigh’s dad may not of been able to afford it, but he took her to the restaurants because he wanted what's best for her. Ashes dad told her: “You have flair Ashes.”(Pfeffer,2). Ashes dad loved to give compliments, especially to his daughter because he wanted her to think the best of herself.
First of all, Ashleigh knew her dad was wrong about taking the money. The story says “‘Why don't you sell your car?’I asked him”(Pfeffer,4). Ashleigh knew that taking the money from the teapot was wrong, so she tries to give her dad an idea to get the money he needs a different way, than to steal her mother's money. “He wiped his hand on the napkin and offered it to me as though to shake on a deal. ‘Thats a lot of money, what if mom finds
Ashley spends more time with her mom that is why Ashly did not take the money. On page one of the short story Ashes by, Susan Beth Pfeffer it states that “ I’d been seeing him Tuesdays for almost two years at that point. Mom who was still working on completing her degree took Tuesday and
She no longer feels like her life has much worth, and most of her life is now dictated by others, as with the community service sentence and the constant harassment. When regretting the picture, Ashleigh says, “What I wouldn’t have given to go back to that night and do things over again.” (Brown 170). Clearly, she is not in a position of power; she is the one that is oppressed.
First, Ashley stole the money because she wanted her dad to love her more. “In the cold stillness of the night ,I could hear my father's car keening in the distance”you're one in a million” it cried”. Ashes thinks her dad is going to love here more.
