The two most common storylines of supernatural horrors are either as mentioned above a family moving into a dead person's home causing the dead spirits
Many people have been inside haunted houses or lived in a haunted house. Some people do not realize actually if there house is haunted or not. People who actually know about a haunted house , they want to visit and video what paranormal activities happen at the haunted house. In Alabama, three places have been visited and recorded of the ghost inthe haunted facility. The word facility is being used because not all ghost exist in houses, they can be in backyard, bridge, anywhere. The big houses you pass by on the highway that you think are pretty, they might not always be as they seem. Many legends of hauntings in Mankato, Minnesota have been told time after time. Though many people tell these stories, it is unknown to whether or not they are true. In this research paper, I will discuss several different legends that have been told throughout time in Mankato. The legends I will further examine are: the legend of Sibley Park, the Memorial Library on campus, the Carnegie Art Center, and the Witch’s Grave. Being that I am from Mankato, Minnesota, I thought it would be very interesting to research more about these legends and the experiences had in these places. Though I, myself, have not experienced anything completely unusual in these places, many people in the town have another experience. Memorates, or accounts of first hand
Natural or supernatural? “The Demon Lover”, by Elizabeth Bowen, is a short story that tells of the protagonist, Mrs. Drover, and her frightful experience with a ghost. After returning to *her horrifying home in London succeeding World War 2, her guilt and anxiety of breaking her promise to her dead fiancé creates a situation of devilish illusions, leading to a suspenseful ending. It is believed that these experiences could have been either natural, in the thought that these events were made up in her mind, or supernatural due to some force beyond scientific understanding. Arguably, “The Demon Lover” uses the elements of setting and flashbacks to make this a true ghost story.
It is here where we see Kingston use the term "ghost" in a manner to mean "stranger." She writes, "America has been full of machines and ghosts Taxi Ghosts, Bus Ghosts, Police Ghosts, Fire Ghosts, Meter Reader Ghosts, Tree Trimming Ghosts Five-and-Dime Ghosts." This description gives the reader the culture shock that someone who has just moved to the US can get. It may be a very unnerving experience to be surrounded by so many strange and alien things.
Kermeen was not the only resident to have a good experience with the ghost and spirits. Carla Ledbetter stayed in the plantation overnight and had a pleasant experience with the ghosts. When people think of normal ghost stories they think of stories told around the campfire. Like a ghost of a one handed axe murder that kills kids that venture out into the woods, or the ghost of a kid who drowned in the lake and seeks vengeance on every camper that comes there. Many people don’t associate ghost stories with tales like Macbeth and Hamlet by Shakespeare. Or other works of literature like the Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman and the Things they Carried by Tim O’Brien. Both tales are great examples of a unconventional ghost story not normally told around the campfire, because of the hidden underlying “ghost”.
Ghosts, as with any other misunderstood group or people, have been preyed upon by others without understanding. The lack of knowledge about ghosts and haunting activity has led people astray as to what they really are. What Hollywood and television portrays is very inaccurate and cannot be relied upon as truthful. They show these spirits of the dead as being evil in nature, filled with malice and harmful intent. But that this is not the case. The field of paranormal activity is amazing. It has caught the imagination of people from every walk of life. It has always interested me and has influenced me to pick this as the topic for my research. Through this research I wish to uncover the truth about the existence of ghosts.
There are many mysteries throughout everywhere. They have scared for centuries or maybe only years. Although some become legends. They spook reads. What’s the first thing that comes to mind when someone says, haunted houses? Scary? Ghosts? Studies show that people hear and see things that aren’t there when they are scared or frightened. Leading them to report “paranormal” activity. Haunted houses make people do that. But, in order to successfully understand the Amityville haunting, one must know the murderer of the family, the other family who purchased the home, and how the haunting of the house started.
