My vision for this practice change project is to provide Skilled-Nursing Facility staff and antipsychotics pharmacology program and screening tool that will alert baseline blood works for patients starting, changing or new to the facility on second generation antipsychotic(s). B. My mission is to decrease the number of long-term complications associated with metabolic syndromes undetected at its earliest stages.
Antipsychotics is a drug to treat psychosis (Paranoia, delusions, hallucinations, etc.). It’s mostly used to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. (3) Test batteries like PACE (Personal Assessment and Crisis Evaluation Clinic), and COPS (Criteria of Prodromal Syndromes), -they observe low level psychotic symptoms-. They used the combination of family history information, the tests that they took can identify a “high risk” group having a 20–40% risk of progression to frank psychosis within 2 years.
Campaigning is the chosen straggly that will be used to make a change in sexism for woman in the work place. There five components that make up the Campaigning process: education, Persuasion, cooptation, lobbying and mass media appeal (book). This one strategy with its five components will be enough to make the desired change if it is carried out correctly.
The case study chosen is about Sean which comes from chapter 7 in the Crisis Intervention Case Book. Sean is a 19 year old sophomore who is currently on disciplinary probation for getting in a fight during freshman year and breaking the other students jaw. Sean admits to drinking and also smoking marijuana since high school and occasionally on campus. Currently Sean was brought to the emergency room by a friend after passing out on the lawn at a beer party. His friend had seen that Sean vomited all over himself and would not wake up. His friend then called 911 and an ambulance came. At the emergency room Sean’s stomach was pumped and a blood
The coalition set up for LC will serve an instrumental role in developing, analyzing, and disseminating information to the rank and file employees at LC. However, it should be pointed out that the initial selection of coalition team members may prove to be one of the most important aspects of the change initiative. Poorly selected, unqualified or otherwise circumspect individuals who “leech” their way onto a planning and implementation team such as this one, tend to force more attention onto their own needs rather than on the needs of the organization. A further refinement is in order, however.
This past summer, I realized that I was getting a lot more exercise compared to the school year. Aside from the occasional basketball, volleyball, or run, I do not have a set schedule or exercise regularly. As a result, I found the Behavioral Change Project the perfect opportunity to set the goal for myself of being more physically fit by exercising daily. To do so, I aimed to either play sports (basketball or volleyball) for at least 1 hour or run at least 1 mile (which includes 5 minutes of stretching beforehand) as my daily exercise. Having the objectives established beforehand made it clear to me what I needed to do to reach my goal. I also wrote down goal-facilitating behaviors (planning to run with others, to work and study effectively
When I came down town to find the Prestera Center, I became lost right off and drove in circles for 20 minutes trying to find the building. I finally asked someone and they pointed me in the right direction. The center is kind of hidden by General Hospital, parking is across the street. The inner-change program is located in part of the building that has a long hallway and several rooms. Most of the rooms are the counselor’s and social workers offices. One room is like a lounge that has a television, drinks, and snacks for the kids. Another room is a classroom for the kids to be schooled in because they will not be attending their regular school for the 6 weeks that they are at Prestera. The last room is the therapist room where the kids spend most of their day talking with the therapist. The back door is secured with a code and if you go through the front doors, you walk into a waiting room filled with clients waiting to go back and be assessed.
On February 13, 2017, I had the pleasure do a brief interview Ms. Stephanie Hayes, of the Oklahoma City Veterans Affairs Health Care Center in regards to her role as being a Change Manager within this health care facility.
Transformational Change Practices sounded like it would be a compelling course to take, so I decided to include it in my education curriculum. I will have two more classes after this to complete in order to receive a Bachelor’s in Allied Health degree. Then, my plan is to enroll in a master’s program at ASU. Previously, I have earned an Associate of Science degree for transfer and also an Associate of Applied Science in Histotechnology.
Today, medicine is prescribed for many things. From headache to heartache, there is medicine that can cure almost anything. There are 1,453 FDA approve medications, ranging from aspirin, to Xanax. Out of all of the categories of medication, the one prescribed the most frequent are antipsychotics. At any give time, almost 7 million people are taking an antipsychotic. Too many people take these medications without hesitation, the moment it's prescribed. With a shocking amount of harsh side effects, and even deaths, this prescription epidemic needs to be quarantined.
Treatment of persons with mental illness involves a team approach in which the nurses plays a major role of monitoring and effectively implementing the established standards of practice in psychosocial and psychopharmaco therapies. Even though psychotropic medications has seen the major development in recent decades, they are not completely without side effects. This makes vigilant monitoring approach towards prevention and treatment of side effects along with adherence therapy, a challenge to mental health professionals.
Change4Life was England’s’ first national public health and social marketing campaign, to address the rapidly increasing obesity rates for adults and children (1). It had been proposed as a three-year campaign, which, began in 2009 (1,2). It was aimed at the prevention of obesity, recruiting expertise from both academic and commercial sectors (1), adapting behavior change theory techniques to enhance public attention and national response. Change4Life had not been designed as a weight loss program nor treatment program but rather tackling the modifiable determinants experienced through modern day lifestyles (1,2). Prevention of obesity may further prevent cancer, type 2 diabetes and heart disease (1). Their targeted audiences for the first year were families and children under 11, in years two and three, the campaign had expanded their targeted audience to include at risk groups such as pregnant women and ethnic minorities (2). The slogan “eat well, move more, live longer”(2) was used alongside other materials to help people of England adapt small and sustainable changes to their daily living habits and hopefully will become of a significance long term- it includes diet, activity level and alcohol consumption (1). Several marketing approaches were adapted, these include, television, radio, digital social media, PR and direct marketing (1). Posters and leaflets were given out to public as free resource, free recipes, tools, tips and games are also available for free on their website to increase various engagement methods.
What are we trying to accomplish? Here we seek to the concession of what to accomplish through discussion and develop implementable ideas for change. People have the opportunity to discuss and provide their views. It starts with the explanation of how to make improvement (Langley et al. 2009, Kindle location 1856)
At the beginning of the semester, we were tasked with the mission of identifying a potential change project. We were given three possibilities: conduct a real (micro) project, take part to an ongoing change within a company, or analyze a past change of a company. From the outset we chose to engage in a micro-change project, as we believed that it would allow us to apply the theories and methods that we were learning in class in real life situations. Through the guidance of Konstantin, we were able to identify a project that we hope will bring systematic change to LMU Business
As SGH leadership has discovered, change projects frequently fail. The disappointing outcomes from the CPOE project can be acted upon as a trigger event for the SGH board of directors and executive leadership to make transformational change to ensure high patient safety at SGH. SGH leadership must start by reviewing the reasons for CPOE failure, and create a risk management plan with the change management planning team. Decker, Durand, Mayfield, McCormack, Skinner, & Perdue (2012) introduce the concept of critical failure factors as a way to analyze implementation risks. Careful identification of what will constitute a failure in the new change plan will positively influence the scope and definition of success for the new change plan (Decker et al., 2012). Galvanizing the SGH community around this trigger event, with in depth knowledge regarding the root cause of previous failure will enable the SGH leadership the insights necessary to use in the change plan scope definition, and communication plan for external stakeholders, shareholders, and employees engaged in the change process.
An effective timeline will allow for all new equipment, supplies or training to take place before fully implemented.
