Will Robots Take Over Mortuary?
Since the world is advancing so quickly, how many people are going to be replaced by robots? Will morticians lose their jobs to robots? It’ll be weird to have our funerals ran by things that aren’t even human and that probably don’t have the feelings to care like we do now. Many people don’t seem to care with how quickly technology is advancing, like most people are going to be out of a job soon.
In the movie “My Girl” Vada Sultenfuss father is a mortician and their funeral home is in their actual home. Thomas J tells Shelly that Vada is scared of death and that she freaks out whenever she is down in the basement where they prepare the bodies. She ends up having a panic attack and nobody can help her.

Robots could not do all that because this job comes with senses that a robot does not have. They ask him what it is like to be near dead bodies every day and he said that it's not weird at all because he grew up around it.
He witnessed a wreck right by his house and the man did not make it. Then when EMTS got to the scene they pronounced the man dead and when they put him on a stretcher his head turned and he looked straight at him and he was curious about what happens to the body when someone dies. Robots should not be morticians because they go to fast and for a mortician you need to know how to manage your time and you need have a lot of patience.
Jackie Anderson is a funeral director and embalmer at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home. I asked her what she thought about robots taking over mortuaries and she said “I would like to think not. That is field of work is in high demand of human interaction and compassion. Since it is dealing so closely with the emotional and psychological portion of an individual.” She also goes on to say the the need for human interaction is a big thing with mortuary. That you need to be able to relate or be able to be there for the family (Anderson, Personal Interview). She also goes on to say that the need for real human contact

Being a mortician isn’t an easy job. It’s requires long hours and late-night phone calls. Robots would not be a good mortician because say if a family wants a certain thing the robot would not know what to do. Death is a tough process and many people have problems coping with it. And being a mortician is not a 9-5 job. You can get a call at 4 A.m. to help transfer a body and or prepare a body for embalming and you may have some weeks where you barely work and other weeks where you work 60 hours preparing for a funeral. The working hours are very unpredictable. And with everything you will have a lot of social stigma family and friends will probably think you are crazy and weird. And you deal with a lot of bizarre situations. There are some gross situations and potential paranormal activities that could come up when working in a funeral home. And while embalming the body there are some clients that could of been in a accident and disfigured as well as starting post mortem muscle movements. You need to have the psychological fortitude to handle these situations if you want to work in the death industry.. And a robots does not have the psychological fortitude to work as a mortician. Dealing with clients and all the paperwork. The family of the deceased may be extremely demanding. The funeral process is comparable to a wedding everything has to be perfect. And since someone is hired to plan the perfect funeral and you may have
In my opinion, we should embrace and welcome robots into our daily lives because they improve our society in various ways. Some of the ways our society has benefited from the creation of robots include transportation, home maintenance, home assistance, education, security, entertainment, disabled assisted living, and even elderly assisted living. In the article The Future of Robot Caregivers, the author, Louise Aronson, states that the idea of robot caregivers shouldn’t be as threatening as most people perceive. She also states that our society as whole, not just the elderly, will benefit greatly in many aspects. For example, Aronson begins by mentioning that caregiving is a difficult job and that “it is work that many people either can’t or
Robots can effect employment in a negative way,as said by the author Kelly “It may be hard to believe… 70 percent of today’s occupation will likewise be replaced by automation...even you will have your job taken away by machines”(Kelly Page.300), this quote comes to show the negative aspect of robots taking over the world in the near
Robotics can be virtual and/or mechanical objects that we use in everyday activities. Even though robots have been around since 1960’s. In the healthcare field we have become more dependent upon them since the 1980 's. Robots have been used to assist people in varies everyday task in laboratories and operating rooms. Some examples their usage are intervention with giving medication, assisting kids with autism, transferring and lifting patients. Although robots have made some of the healthcare fields task easier there can be questions with such technology which can impact ethical policy and non-human touch.
One scenario that could become reality when these types of robots are invented is that I come home from work after a long tiring day, and am looking for a beer and a little quality time with my Love, L. What I find instead is my L engaged in an act of sex with a Robot, R, which was purchased as a tool to help out around the house, with jobs like laundry, dishes, cleaning the toilets, and other tedious tasks that neither L nor I had time for.
As the paragraph above states: we all die, and though we are all different we all share just that. But what happens when we die? where do we go? what happens to our bodies? Thats where a mortician comes in. A mortician or undertaker, are both artists and scientists. The career of the funeral director is a combination of jobs and is never
In her article “Are Humans Necessary”, Margaret Atwood stated lots of facts and concerns about robots in future.
The debate over whether robots are helping or hurting the workplace is more heated than ever. Advances in technology are soaring thus making an increase in the use of robots in the workplace more and more commonplace. Some believe the use of robots in the workplace can never totally result in the loss of jobs, but due to the fact that robots have invaded the workplace environment, many people fear this indicates replacement of human jobs. Although advancement in technology of robotics and artificial intelligence may offer precision, productivity, efficiency and flexibility, the loss of human jobs will be devastating to the many people who depend on their jobs to make a living and provide for their families.
Personally I agree with the statements made by Asaro because I believe that human lives are too valuable to let “someone” (more like something) else to control them. Also, I don’t think that one can input feelings in a robot which makes the robot lifeless. I think that there is too great of a chance for a malfunction to occur and if we do not be careful the effects of the technological “advancement” can be fatal. Personally I believe that things should stay as they are right now. Why have a robot to take care of the elderly when it cannot decide without the approval of another person? Why not hire a caretaker instead? Why should someone buy a driverless car when you can either drive yourself or have someone drive you? I believe that we should continue these practices because they involve our decision making and not that of a robot. I believe that the only way a robot can be is when it is out fighting on the battlefield. I believe that this is the only reason that a robot should be used because it can greatly lower the number of fatalities in war, thus saving lives and helping families. Maybe one day the world will only use robots for warfare so that men do not have to keep continuing to sacrifice for their families. This will also help the families of the members in the army because when there is no loss, there is no grief. In conclusion, I don’t think that using robots for everyday
First of all, machines and humans can work together. An example is how at a pizza place robots are used to prep most of the meal. ‘"It's delicious. It's always hot and fresh when it comes," a customer said. "I can't tell the difference that it's made by a robot versus a human."’ (Chea). Robots will do the monotonous, repetitive jobs that humans don’t enjoy. In the example of the pizza place food quality will not suffer, and no one at
Can anyone imagine a factory rid of workers and filled with robots? In the course of the next few decades it may be possible and technology replacing the jobs of hardworking people in the U.S. is an all-around controversial topic. Eventually, it will be an epidemic that will need to be resolved in the near future. Even though it may seem impossible, the age of new technology and no humans is coming.
Noel Sharkey has warned us that “the widespread availability of service robots has resulted from several developments that allowed robots to become mobile, interactive machines” (Sharkey 358). Robots have become a necessity for people today rather than just for science fiction or manufacturing processes, but lately we wonder whether or not if it’s safe to put our faith in the hands of cold machinery. Today, robots have been known to provide care for our children and the perhaps even the elderly. They even provide service to our men in combat. However, it doesn’t change the fact that there are those who feel
A huge technology revolution is freely replacing millions of robots instead of humans. As in today we have a few machines that do our daily jobs. Some of the technology that are being placed with humans are ATM Machines instead of tellers, auto manufactures which is an automotive industry that develops cars, travel agents, cashiers, transportation and material moving, production, medicine and services. Very soon, people will realize that the very thing they created to make life easier is creating a life of its own. Computers have become a species that no one has yet realized. Here are a few examples on how technology is taking over with our working field. As you know El Centro California has two hospitals in Imperial Valley. But one of these hospitals has a robotic hand called Da Vinci. Da Vinci is a Robotic system that works as an extension of the surgeon who uses computer controlled instruments to operate through tiny openings in the body. But here is the bad thing about having instruments that do surgical procedures on a human, because unlike a human doctor, who can detect or feel things with their eyes, ears or
The funeral service industry is always changing, and for the most part it changes in a progressive way. The main reason that the funeral service industry changes so often is because the needs and want of families that we serve become different as years go on. What worked for one generation does not work for another; people and technology are advancing, and the funeral service industry is no different. Thus, funeral service practitioners are always trying to come up with the next best thing that is going to attract families while at the same time fulfilling their needs, and in turn increasing business. The article, “Creating the Virtual Experience”, by Lauren Moore discusses how funeral homes across the United States are starting to rid of their
As time goes on our technological breakthroughs are ever increasing. One of the many successes of our world’s rtechnology is the creaction of human robotics, more known as humanoids. With the making of this international phenomenon the idea of replacing the deceased with robot versions of them have occurred. While restoring lifeless bodies are not physically and scientifically possible at present. Building and programming robots to imitate the deceased is possible. Fictional Robots such as WALL-E, Baymax, C-3PO are known for their human-like characteristics, would now be possible to create with our technology. Dr Hiroshi Ishiguro, the founder of human robots was the first person ever to
As society becomes more technologically advanced, so does the workplace. More and more people are being put out of their jobs each year due to companies replacing them with cost effective robots. Even though they may cost the companies less money overall, it costs the families a lot more. My questions for this research project is What jobs does this affect, what causes companies to replace workers, and what steps could we take to limit job loss?
