You have to contact with the parents. It’s tied to your APPR, you know (with a threatening tone).” I said, “Mrs. Thiam, I don’t know why you have an impression that I don’t communicate with the parents. I had meetings with Paris’s grandmother and Jayjuan’s mother; I spoke to Noah and Titus’s mother, Jamier’s mother and sent a letter to Russel’s mother, too (just to give Mrs. Thiam some examples). Evan’s problem has just started a couple of weeks ago.” Mrs. Thiam said, “You know why? It’s because of Russell. Evan sees what Russell does and Evan thinks it’s ok to do the same. So, you are contacting the parents, that’s good.” I said, “Yes, by the way Mrs. Thiam, I am the one telling students not to tell me what happened in the classroom or how bad he was. If you have good news (about Evan), share that with me. I always start new.” She did not say anything. I continued, “But when it happened (as I pointed the write up), I was very vulnerable.” Mrs. Thiam said dismissively, “Of course.” “I continued, “I do not feel safe, and I do not feel safe for the rest of the class. My job is not only to care for Evan, but also to teach and protect the rest of the class.” Mrs. Thiam said, “Of course” again
In “A Summer Life” Soto is the name of a six-year-old boy who faces a decision between sinning and not fulfilling his sweet tooth desires. This all started when Soto became bored and thought the only way to cure his boredom was through sin. Though Soto knows that sinning is iniquitous he ends up going against all of his religious beliefs and greedily taking the pie for his own longing to eat something sweet. Shortly after, Soto knows stealing the pie was wrong and regrets his decision. In “A Summer Life” Soto shifts from greedy to guilty by using striking imagery, potent ethos, and biblical illusions to recreate his story.

The challenge, however, has been consistency in following through with recommendations given to them on how best to supervise Isaiah, specifically, not allowing Isaiah un supervised time on the Internet. Isaiah, when given opportunities to connect with friends online via a computer or cellular phone, spends the majority of this time communicating with peer-aged girls, to gain their trust, gain sympathy from them, and then make a request (offense specific behaviors). Isaiah’s grandmother, despite being made aware of what Isaiah is doing, reports that when he is doing well she wants to believe that he is making an effort to change and gives in to Isaiah’s relentless requests to have access to the Internet. Further, she states that when Isaiah is denied his requests, he becomes unmanageable at home and currently have the grandparents questioning whether or not they can provide the necessary supervision and support that Isaiah needs to be

Power relates to influence because in order for a person to be in a position where they have power, others must be dependent on them for one thing or another. The greater the subjects depend on the person, the more power a person has. When one is then in a position of power, they can influence others who are dependent on them in order for the needs of the dependent subjects to be satisfied. Influence cannot be exerted over people who are not dependent on the person, thus leaving that person without power.
