Hungry for knowledge and new formulas, I desire to become a renowned mathematician. When I get home from school, bored and deprived of mathematical challenges, I explore the vast secrets of the internet. Likewise, I watch videos on cool shapes and patterns constantly affecting our everyday lives. Despite this, my uninteresting life brings me back to school where I sit still in desks for hours learning about super PAC’s and oxidation reduction reactions. As most high school attendees would say, almost every single class they take is useless for what they want to chase after in college and the business world. For over seventeen years, spread abroad, seven mathematical problems shake and stymie even the best of minds. Clay Mathematics called these
America has been a nation the allows every citizen over the age of 18 an opportunity to vote for whoever they wish to represent them in numerous political matters from county
In the 2016 election cycle, over 1.4 billion dollars was given to presidential candidates (Federal Election Commission 2016a). This is more than any other presidential election cycle in history (Price 2016). Another billion dollars was given to U.S. House of Representatives candidates, and about 600 million dollars was given to U.S. Senate candidates (Federal Election Commission 2016b). The majority of this money went to funding the candidates’ campaigns. This money controlled whose ads voter’s saw on television and which candidates were able to afford to travel the country campaigning for votes. In many cases, the candidate with the most money available won their election. Most campaigns are financed in large part by a small number
The next presidential election will be one like no one has ever seen before in terms of campaign funding and expenses. Even now, the GOP Presidential Primary races are already showing signs of how money will not be an object for their presidential candidate. The seemingly limitless budget exists for these candidates thanks to the so-called Super PACs (Political Action Committees). These Super PACs are allowed to come up with independent financing for the presidential campaign, sans any budgetary ceilings. The inner workings of such a committee has left a bad taste in the mouths of the voters even though very little is known about the actual history and reasons for the existence of the Super PACS. This paper will delve into the committee's
When people think about mathematicians, they typically refer to white, doctorate-educated male. However, there are more women budding into the field of mathematics. This paper will focus on one special woman, an African-American woman by the name of Evelyn Boyd Granville. She is not the first African-American woman to receive a doctorate in mathematics, but she, unlike Euphemia Lofton Haynes, stayed more out of the education field and primarily worked for NASA, contributing to many expeditions in space. Her contributions have inspired many young girls to look into and pursue a career in the field of mathematics.
The Keepin’ It REAL campaign aims to teach middle school students substance refusal strategies through the REAL method developed by narrative theory. The campaign, although successful, has definitive strengths and weaknesses in its execution. Through an explanation of the use of theory as well as message design, strategy and development, the campaign’s thought process and execution will be outlined. Strengths and weaknesses will be outlined through the critiques of the use of theory, missing campaign stages, and message design and channel selection. Keepin’ It REAL is a pioneer in using the narrative theory to relate to a people group different from the researchers. The theory was central to the success of the campaign, but with some adjustments its reach could be even larger and more impactful.
In this section, students are taught how to relieve their stress and perform better during assignments and homework. Tips and tricks are given to students for studying and improving their actual testing performance. This section is also designed to help first time math students at the University of Phoenix to get a good understanding of their upcoming math course(s). All aspects of the classroom and what to expect will be
The effects of the SuperPACs is something Americans are hearing more and more about in the 2016 campaign. Do Americans have a good understanding of what SuperPACs are and how they can affect the Presidential election.? This is something that needs to be discussed. As Americans, don’t we have the right to know who is financing the elections? These are only a few of the questions many people should be asking themselves.
The majority wrote that the Freedom of the Press Clause in the 1st Amendment protects associations of individuals, not just individual speakers; therefore, corporations gain 1st amendment rights as an association of individuals (Roberts, 2009). This means that corporations have effectively the same 1st amendment rights guaranteed to individuals. In Buckley v. Valeo, it’s established that money is detrimental to disseminating speech. For that reason, limiting a corporation’s ability to spend money is deemed unconstitutional because it limits their ability to speak on political issues., The majority opinion also wrote that because the BCRA doesn’t distinguish between corporations and media,
I am writing to offer my application as a Marketing Coordinator with the DNC. While I have limited experience working in politics, I have a vast knowledge of marketing, analytics, and politics. I am an avid follower of the current US political field and larger world politics. Thus, I am able to speak at lengths on a multitude of topics affecting the American people at home or abroad. My previous work experience has involved working in direct marketing at JMU for nearly 4 years, being tasked to handle their advertising and outreach programs to increase student engagement with international programs; a task which I have largely accomplished. Further, I have worked to engage people across a multitude of background; notably when I spent a month this past summer consulting with a premier tennis academy in Spain to rebrand their business to better attract international customers. Additionally, I spent several months working as the Marketing and Operations lead for a local VA start-up where I developed a full-scale, multi-pronged marketing plan to drive user acquisition.
Proliferated in 2010, Super PACs have played an immensely influential role in the outcomes of elections and collective action. Super PACs are a new kind of committee that operates politically. As reported by opensecrets.org, Super PACs acquire any amount of donated money in a phenomenon that aggregates towards a fund “to advocate for or against political candidates and must report their donors to the Federal Election Commission on a monthly or quarterly basis”. They are not allowed to give the money to the political candidates, campaigns, or parties explicitly. However, Super PACs can contribute to the outcome of an election by paying for ads that are in support of the candidate that they want to take office, or spend
The Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act also known as BCRA was enacted March 27, 2002, and is a United States federal law that regulates the financing of political campaigns. After BCRA was enacted in 2002, Citizens United, an organization whose goals are to “[...]restore the founding fathers' vision of a free nation, guided by the honesty, common sense, and good will of its citizens”(CitizensUnited), challenged the law on March 23, 2009 in the Citizens United vs Federal election commission(FEC) supreme court case. Citizens United argued that the BCRA act was unconstitutional, because it did not allow corporations and individuals to support their preferred
Super PAC’s may raise unlimited sums of money from corporations, unions, associations and individuals, then spend unlimited sums to overtly advocate for or against political candidates (1). Spending in the US federal elections increased from just a mere $3 billion in 2000 to more than $7 billion in 2012 (1). These Super PACs play an important role in American politics because of their ability to raise funds for certain candidates.
It is interesting that many people of great genius have trouble completing ordinary tasks—several mathematicians are notorious for their various problems with social relations, real-world skills, and even brain disorders. John Forbes Nash Jr. fits into those categories. Many accounts describe his quirks and oddities, as well as his extended fight with schizophrenia. Nash has led a fascinating, though turbulent, life, which he dedicated to his mathematical work. Though it may be difficult to relate to him, Nash’s experiences compel others to consider the definition of genius.
Over the years I have heard stories from my relatives about how much I would like painting my aunts’ nails, wearing my mother’s heels, and debating everyday on what I wanted to wear for school. Matching my clothes, having my nails painted, and having my hair nicely done everyday, were a must for me as a child. Along with always trying to enhance my composition, I have had a love for shopping ever since I remember. Although fashion has always been a focal point in my interests, there has been another prominent factor, which also relates to my career choice just as fashion does. Math is the answer to anybody who asked me what my favorite subject in school was, making it another one of my passions in life. The process
We have begun to visit national meetings, bringing our message of the joy of mathematics to a wider audience. The Young Innovator’s Fair in King of Prussia Pennsylvania, and the annual meeting of the National Association for Gifted Children saw hundreds of visitors to our exhibit booths.
