Chapter one is based on critical thinking when it comes to learning psychology. Critical thinking is the ability and willingness to assess claims and make objective judgments on the basis of well-supported reasons. It is the ability to look for flaws in arguments and resist claims that have no supporting evidence. First this is asking questions because if their is something that u dont understand its always good to ask quetions so you wont be left puzzled. Defining the problem , examine the evidence ask yourself what evidence supports you argments. Accuracy is unquestionably essential to critical thinking. Relevance means that the information and ideas discussed must be logically relevant to the issue being discussed. Consistency is a key
One of the most essential aspects of doing a job well, no matter what job it is, is the ability to think critically about a situation. Finn (2011) defines critical thinking as “the ability and willingness to assess claims and make objective judgments on the basis of well-supported reasons and evidence rather than emotion or anecdote”. The difference between assessing a certain situation critically and assessing it without any evidence to corroborate your claims is that when you look at something critically, you are using your ability to “come up with the alternative explanations for events, think of research findings and apply new knowledge to social and personal problems” (Finn, 2011). When you can come up with other explanations using
Critical thinking is one of the most important traits that a person can have in their day to day lives. It involves the person to have the ability to ascertain claims and make judgments based on well-support evidence or logic rather than anecdote or emotion. There are 8 protocols that critical thinkers’ exhibit in their day to day lives in order to become better at their craft.
Beliefs, attitudes and values are three little words that have and make a massive impact on who we are as individuals, who we are as people, and even how the world is viewed by ourselves and others. A belief is something that individuals or groups think, such as believing in a god. Where a Value would be the living life in the ways a religion expects, this value will be made from the belief that the person or group has in their God. The attitude towards this would be the feelings, beliefs and behaviour tendencies towards this, for example praying, reading the holy book,
After reading " CLUES to Critical Thinking" in chapter 5, I disagree with the Supreme Court's decision to allow Law enforcements to strip search an arrested individual who had only committed a minor offense. The Fourth Amendment clearly states that, "The right of the people to be secure in their persons against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated. Unreasonable can be defined as not guided by or based on good sense, which in this case, strip searching an individual for a minor offense can be seen as unreasonable. The only time a cop should be able to strip search you is when the officer has a reasonable suspicion that you are either carrying contraband or an illegal weapon, that is what strip searches are for. It is not
Confirmation Bias: only explore information that supports our ideas Hindsight Bias: reporting untruthfully that we projected an outcome Availability Heuristic: calculating possibilities grounded on ease of recall Base-Rate Fallacy: disregarding information about universal principles Representativeness Heuristic: making decisions grounded on stereotypes
What did you already know about Critical Thinking: Making Inferences and Analyzing the Author’s Message? Respond to each concept. What did you already know about making inferences? What did you already know about analyzing the author’s message?
When the Judge admonished the Jury, he told them they must reach a unanimous decision beyond a reasonable doubt. The "hero" of this movie appears to be Henry Fonda, the first juror to vote "not guilty". He kept challenging the evidence by saying "isn 't it possible?"...that the evidence was wrong. Do some critical thinking on this...using a good paragraph answer if "isn 't it possible?" is the same thing as "beyond a reasonable doubt." Start with a “yes” or “no” and then eleaborate.
Critical thinking involves rationalizing a given situation and objectively evaluating information (Myers, 2011). This particular method of processing information forces one to assess misleading evidence and strive for accuracy in recorded findings as opposed to trusting his/her, often faulty, intuition. The ability to think critically is very crucial to psychology when evaluating test results because it requires one to ask questions, second guess his/her assumptions, and ignore biases. Critical thinking can be influenced in both biological and psychological ways. The skill of thinking critically can be influenced psychologically because one must yearn to want to evaluate properly and question things rather than
In today’s current school systems, the question of whether or not schools are correctly teaching students the right curriculum is coming up for debate. In the Article,"Teaching Critical Thinking by Marcia Clemmitt, she goes into extensive research of the U.S. Department of Education’s crisis of standardized testing. Most learning activities include standardized testing which lacks many students to express creative and critical thinking. Critical thinking is defined as the examination and evaluation of ideas, events and arguments in their contexts which introduces students to interrogate assumptions and identifying biases (Clemmitt)Pure critical thinking involves investigating a text more than just memorizing, but to apply theirself in other ways of techniques, meaning schools should stimulate more analytical methods of teaching. This would not only free students from a sheltered test culture, but will allow students to think in a deeper, more passionate way than before.
Critical thinking was the first concept that I was introduce too when I started the course back in September. I hardly remember it from my pass psychology class so it was kind of new to me when I first started to learning about it. I thinking that why I chose it as one of my most important concept, because it was what introduce me to the course. Critical thinking is the ability and willingness to assess claims and make objective judgement on the base of supported evidence and not from emotions. I like it
2. The four main ideas discussed in the textbook and this course is critical thinking, the two-track mind, exploring human strength (exploring the positives of human nature) and biopsychosocial (sometimes referred to the biopsychosocial spiritual approach). When someone thinks critically, they ask “why” and “how” questions. This approach is useful in the attempt to avoid bias and base conclusions off of false or unproven statements. If I were to tell you that it is the man’s sperm that determines the gender of the child, you should think critically and ask “Why is this the case?”, “What evidence do you have to support this claim?” and “Has this statement been proven?” Thinking critically enhances your knowledge and verifies that the information you have been given is correct. The double-mind aspect of psychology is the fact that we are acting on our subconscious more than we are acting on our own will. Although you may feel like you are in control of your actions, most of you

consists of being able to delve into the abyss of knowledge, constrained by our imagination and resources. Curiosity involves asking questions; lots of them. The more you ask, the more you know. This leads to unanswered questions that need to be presented and thus leads to a better understanding of what you are questioning. Being curious allows you to keep looking for information that could lead to better results and a better understanding, or to a solution(s) that have not presented themselves.
In recent times, many organizations considered the critical thinking method of decision-making. Moreover, some others preferred the persuasive and logical thinking to make a decision. In everybody creatively thinking ability is found because everybody thinks in different ways that generate creativities.
I have always been a thinker, however throughout my coursework; I have mainly focused on sharpening my critical analysis skills as psychology student. It is true that I challenged myself to get into deeper meaning of each of the course as possible in order to understand the meaning and practice it well. It is often believed that students need to expect that they must graduate with the skills and knowledge necessary for them to get engage in their professional career (Hughes & Youngson, 2009). I took this statement seriously and tried to cover all the major aspects of my learning. My module covered counselling skills, study skills, introduction to developmental psychology, and introduction to biological and cognitive psychology. While reviewing my Personal
