In the story “Don’t give up the fight” and the article “Susan B Anthony Dares to Vote” they are similar and different in many ways. They are both similar because they both overcome obstacles. They are different because in ”Don’t Give Up the Fight” Ava overcame being bullied because she was a girl, but “Susan B Anthony Dares to Vote” Susan overcame a greater deal because she could have been killed or sentenced to life in prison for the things she did. This why “Susan B Anthony Dares to vote’’ and “Don’t Give Up the Fight “ are alike and different. “Don’t give up the fight” shows the theme of overcoming obstacles. In “Don’t Give Up the Fight” Ava overcame the coach McCoy and Jacob teasing her all the time because she is a girl.Another reason is that Ava overcame when Jacob made her fall and break her wrist. This is overcoming obstacles because she overcomes being bullied by Jacob because he pushes
In the late Nineteenth century, women were beginning to become more progressive in their actions. They began to stand up for themselves and fight for their rights. In the late 1850’s, Elizabeth Cady Stanton was one of the more prominent women to do so. She worked with Susan B. Anthony to deliver a majority of the population the rights that they rightfully deserved. Her actions are important in the United States’ History because they helped to encourage women to form the Women’s Suffrage Movement. Many Scholars have written about her, but simply with a different lens of focus. For example, they have written about her use of the bicycle in her campaign and her unique stance on religion. It is important to continue studying her actions because the issues she was fighting for back then, such as: the abolition of capital punishment, and an end to police brutality, are still issues today. Perhaps if the people of the United States today collectively took after her intrepid and forward thinking attitude in life, there could be more positive change in this country.
In 1915 Jane Addams wrote the document Why Women Should Vote. In this document Addams spoke on why she felt women should have a voice and be able to vote for who they believed was fit for office. Jane Addams was a very influential woman, she was able to become an advocate for women. She opened hull houses which allowed women and children immigrants a place to stay and even take classes to become educated. Jane Addams wanted what was best for women and she wanted them to be able to become more independent. Addams also wanted women to be allowed to have their opinions heard because the Presidential decisions affected women’s responsibilities equally if not more than that of a man.
Fighting for civil rights as a minority has never in the history of the United States of America been easy. Chief Joseph and Susan B. Anthony both wrote historic speeches that called for a change in action by the U.S. government. Whether it be to stop fighting or give a vote to women, these remarkable speeches have stood the test of time. Both used similar strategies to make their argument strong and used different rhetorical appeals to deliver it in the way they believed fit best with the problem they were addressing. Both Chief Joseph in "On Surrender At Bear Paw Mountain, 1877" and Susan B. Anthony in "On Women's Right to Vote" think of the audience they are trying to persuade and fit the speech to them in order to have the most impact.
The main character. Is overcoming obstacles by having Jacob, Mr. McCoy, and her teammates bully her simply because she is a girl. She also is overcoming obstacles because she needed strength to fight back. She needed strength to talk to someone about her issues. She needed the strength to stand up and won races and go to track meets while being bullied. All because she is a girl and not a boy! But Ava overcomes this by telling her friend, Lindsay about what’s going on. Then Lindsay, (when they go back to school), tells the principle about what’s going on with Ava and how she is bullied. Later that day over the loudspeakers you can hear, “ Can Mr.Mccoy and Jacob Stone please come to my office immediately?” This is overcoming obstacles because she now has overcome being bullied by her teammates and
On November 5, 1872, in Rochester, New York in a barber shop a woman by the name of Susan Brownell Anthony had the satisfaction of seeing her ballot for the presidential election be added to the ballot box. Just this one action of a woman caused a great uproar, multiple protests, an arrest, a trial that will be remembered for years to come, and a fine of $100-one that will never be paid.
In A Woman’s Crusade, Alice Paul and the Battle for the Ballot, Mary Walton argues how important it is for women to actively know the history with their equality rights, and how Alice Paul and other women fought so hard for those rights throughout time. All through time women have fought for the right to vote, equal rights in the workplace, and rights for our own body, these fights have been so important for woman to move on in our society to been seen as equals and not the weaker sex. Moving back in time with Mary Walton’s book “A Woman’s Crusade,” in the early stages of women’s suffrage is an inspiring crusade of inspiration. Alice Paul started her early days as an eighth generation American Quaker, living a life as a Quaker Alice Paul
Civic participation is important since citizens are needed to help make a country run. Political participation is also necessary due to smart minds leading others, which brings me to Eleanor Roosevelt and why she should have her own holiday.
In the presidential election of 1872, Susan Anthony wanted to vote along with the men.
In 1869, Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton founded the National Woman Suffrage Association, an organization devoted to gaining rights for women. Anthony made sure that Stanton was president as long as possible; Anthony served as vice president until 1892 when she became president of the NWSA
“There will never be complete equality until women themselves help to make laws and elect lawmakers,” Anthony said this in 1897 (Documented). This quote shows how strongly Anthony feels about women’s suffrage, because she knows that it is her basic human right to be able to vote. Susan B. Anthony’s involvement in civil disobedience was due to personal influence, she chose to participate in civil disobedience to protest for women’s suffrage, and she did make a difference in the cause of women’s suffrage but never seen the day that women got the right to vote. Civil Disobedience is when you break a law to protest for something you believe in (Suber). People use civil disobedience because they believe it is a nonviolent way yo get a point across
Susan B. Anthony’s speech on women’s rights to vote explains the fact that women deserve the right to vote in America just as much as men do. Upon giving this speech, Anthony was recently arrested for voting in the most recent presidential election. By giving this speech, she intended to prove the innocence of herself and all women trying to vote. Anthony first makes the point that women are equal citizens to men. Then she makes several grievances to the Constitution, arguing that the document protects the rights of all citizens of the United States of America, even quoting it. Finally, she points out that one of these protected rights is that to vote, stressing her point that as an American citizen, she is entitled to her right to vote. These
“Susan B Anthony Dares to Vote”, and “Making Sarah Cry” have similar themes. They have similar themes because both the poem Making Sarah Cry and the article Susan B Anthony dares to vote show acceptance as their themes. Susan B Anthony wants to be accepted to get women's rights, while Sarah wants to be accepted for just who she is. Susan B Anthony and Sarah stick up for themselves also so they can get what they want. The article and poem show, the theme acceptance differently. They show it differently because Sarah needs acceptance for only herself, but Susan needed to gain acceptance for herself and other women too.
The story Susan B. Anthony Dares to Vote is very similar and different to Rosa Parks’ life. They share a common theme which is courage. Rosa Parks is known as an important historical figure for standing up for her rights as a black person. In Susan B. Anthony Dares to Vote, Susan B. Anthony stood up for her rights as a woman. The two women both kept fighting for their rights, even though they knew that they will get arrested for what they believe in. Even though they are very similar, the two women have several differences in their story.
The story Susan B Anthony Dares to Vote and the life of Bethany Hamilton share the common theme, overcoming obstacles. Susan B Anthony in Susan B Anthony Dares to Vote has to overcome the obstacle of not being able to vote. Bethany Hamilton gets her arm bitten off by a shark, coming back to be a professional surfer. While the story and person share a common theme, the social implication of each person is different. Susan B Anthony started the movement of getting women to vote, which came true 100 years after her death. Bethany Hamilton proved that you can overcome any obstacle thrown your way.
A girl thrown out of her apartment, lost her job, but she still strives for her dreams and lets nothing get in her way. She pushes through, gets back up, and fights back. No matter what she won’t let anything stop her from achieving her dreams. This idea can be seen in many pieces of texts including the following poems. “Invictus,” by William Ernest Henley and “Still I rise” by Maya Angelou both convey the message that people can not let anything stop them from achieving their dream and to fight back.
