A very broad definition of a family system is a grouping of individuals that can be linked through biology, but not necessarily so, who are intimately connected and share a belief structure often based on influences from societal, cultural and individual ideologies. As we move through the twenty-first century, it’s increasingly apparent that family cannot be demarcated as singularly as the nuclear, gender based structure (one man; one woman; child (ren)) it once was. Because of the uniqueness in characterization, the therapists best skilled at caring for these groups are equally unique in their training.
