yoder 1 Lupus is a rare and crippleing disease. This disease is as rare as it is hard to undertand. Lupus being a not well known disease is hard to pinpoint. This disease causes insufferable pain and body problems. Such a terrible disease causes syptoms like swelling muscles, joint pains, general inflamations, organ failures, and overall fatigue. Lupus is an autoimmune disease ( AKA the autoimmune sytem attacking itself). This autoimmune disease is most common in youge woman in birth bearing age. With little known reason …show more content…
Let alone the cause of this horrible disease. One of the most commonly suspected reasons for systemic lupus erythemotosus (SLE) is a very low iron count. Low iron has a veriaty of effects on the body including the feeling of being cold, low blood count (anemia), and impaired immune defiecency, ect.. Thus the low iron syptom seems to add up with lupus making doctor think that low iron can have a leading from in the disease. Then anemia as previously meantioned kills red blood cells. Causing a veriaty of different trouble across the board with the body, along with substanial fatigue. This type of anemia is called low iron-anemia, which goes along with its cause. for this reason it is obvious to see why doctors and scientist believe that iron defiecency is one of the causes for lupus. Low iron enemia as well as chronic enemia wich is passed down through heretity is also suspected to be one of the reasons for lupus. as for familty history it is believed that Heretity plays a roll in lupus. With other known medicals problems similiar to those such as enemia and other autoimmune diseases it is suspected the two are intertwinned. while no factual proof leads to this assummtion it seems to be somewhat of a common occurance between
In conclusion Lupus is definitely a very serious disease that we must learn more about. My great aunt had Lupus for over ten years and during that time suffered in ways no person should have to. She would fall down constantly and break bones. Near the end of her life, she would break bones doing stuff as simple as getting out of bed.
Lupus may also affect the blood. Anemia is common in individuals with Lupus, with this condition there is a low read blood cell count, the red blood cells are coated with antibodies that cause them to break down and break apart. Leupkopenia is also common, with this condition there is a low white blood cell count. This can lead to an increased susceptibility to infections. Thrombocytopenia is also common; with this condition people have trouble
Lupus is an autoimmune disease that attacks women between the ages of 15 and 40. It occurs less often in men than in women. The people affected by lupus vary depending on the country or region. In the US alone, the prevalence rate is highest among Asians of Hawaii, blacks of Caribbean origin, and Native Americans of the Sioux, Arapahoe, and Crow tribes. Lupus is a disease that affects the immune system. We can think of the immune system as an army within the body with hundreds of defenders (known as antibodies). They defend the body from attack by germs and viruses. In lupus, however, the immune system becomes overactive and creates antibodies that attack healthy tissues in the body, such as: the skin, kidneys, lungs, heart and brain.
Lupus does not have a known cause, and because of that it has no known cure. The exact cause of lupus is unknown, but scientists suspect that it is likely to be a combination of factors, people who contract lupus are probably genetically predisposed to lupus, and know that environmental factors such as infections, antibodies, ultraviolet light, extreme stress and certain drugs play a critical role in
Both medical journals provide similar information about SLE dealing with genetic influence, hormones, cytokines and similar treatment. Only difference is Mechanisms of Disease Systemic Lupus Erythematosus gives information about environmental influence and A Review of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus and Current Treatment Options journal has no evidence to support any environmental influence. It gives details about the new medication, Belimumab, which was approved by Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The results are small but significant beneficial with the blockade of B-lymphocyte stimulator with an anti-BLyS antibody (Tsokos, 2011). Another new treatment option is small molecule inhibitors of kinases such as Syk and CaMK4 that are showed in the immune cells of patients with SLE (Tsokos,
It is not rare for individuals with lupus to undergo muscle throbs and discomfort or have inflammation of certain muscle groups, which causes faintness and loss of intensity. More than 90 percent of people with lupus will encounter joint and/or muscle pain at some time during the path of their illness. In lupus, the immune system of the body raids its own cells and tissues. Precisely, the joints, skin, kidneys, lungs, heart, nervous system, and other organs of the body are affected. Lupus affects generally 10 times as many women as men. Most often, lupus develops in people 18 to 45 years old. (Lahita) Though lupus is most dominant among women, it also may affect men and children, as well as individuals of all ages. Lupus effects each person
Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a multi-organ autoimmune disorder that can cause significant morbidity and mortality. A large body of evidence has shown that African Americans experience the disease more severely than other racial-ethnic groups. We performed a systematic review in the PubMed and Medline Databases of articles published between January(?) 2000 – December 2014 to evaluate research focused on SLE in African Americans. Articles were classified according to their level of evidence. Our literature review reported a wide range of adverse outcomes in
Systematic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic, systemic, autoimmune disease. This condition causes the body to mistaken its own tissues and organs as foreign bodies and begins attacking them causing continuing inflammation and pain. (Huether & McCance, 2012) The cause of SLE still remains unknown, but it is possible that is inherited as a complex trait or caused by environmental stimuli. (S) Anyone is at risk for Lupus, but is more common among women than men and is more prevalent of African Americans and Asians. (National Library of Medicine 2010, para 2) This condition can be difficult to diagnose, as a patient must present a number of the recognizable symptoms. Depending on the location that Lupus presents itself in the body, the symptoms
Systemic Lupus Erythematous will affect people in different ways. The joints, lungs, kidneys, blood, the heart affected are the worst affect Systemic, .Lupus Erythematous can damage a person that have it. The type of lupus is also often categorized by periods of flare when the disease is living and periods of decrease when the disease is hidden. The signs and symptoms range from rashes on the cheeks, Ulcers in your mouth, red palms and hands, joint pain, joint redness, swelling of the joints, their face and legs become very swollen, the shortness of breath, rapid or irregular heartbeat, chest pain, hair loss, swelling of lymph glands, protein in the urine, increase sensitivity to the sun and last but not least mental changes. The people that have lupus in the blood will be affect because they may start developing anemia, leukopenia which is a decreasing number of white blood cells, or thrombocytopenia which is a decreasing in the number of platelets in the blood, which assist in clotting. A lot of people with the disease lupus that on autoantibody called antiphospholipid antibodies have an increased risk of blood clots. The people that have lupus in the heart are at risk because of the inflammation can occur in the heart itself or the membrane that surrounds itself (pericarditis), causing chest pain or other symptoms. The disease lupus have endocarditis which can damage the heart
The American College of Rheumatology (ACR) and the Georgia Council on Lupus Education and Awareness (GCLEA) partnered to increase community awareness on Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) and to further educate lupus patients throughout the underserved region of southwest Georgia. Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, the most common form of lupus, is an autoimmune disease that causes the immune system to attack needed body tissues (“Lupus,” 2018). This specific type of lupus affects major functions of the body including the brain, lungs, skin, and kidneys. Lupus is commonly difficult to diagnose in humans due to its vague symptoms that mimic the symptoms of other major conditions (‘Lupus,” 2017). Presently, researchers are unaware of the origins
Systemic lupus erythematosus(SLE) is an autonomous disorder with a number of autoantibodies(double stranded DNA,ANA). It causes inflammation diffusely through the body(skin, brain, kidneys, joints) and the blood. SLE has numerous abnormal blood tests associated with it(anemia, anti-Sm, anti-phospholipid antibodies), but this is not the same thin as knowing what causes SLE. its cause is a mystery. The etiology of SLE is unknown but multiple genetic, epigenetic, and environmental risk factors have been implicated. The inheritance of genes alone is not sufficient for developing SLE, suggesting the influence of environmental triggers on disease expression. Despite the significant role of the environment in modulating autoimmunity pathogenesis,
Lupus is a chronic inflammatory disease marked by its effect on various parts of the body, including the joints, skin, blood, and kidneys. It is a condition in which the body's immune system attacks its own cells and tissues, resulting in pain, inflammation, and often damage to organs. Lupus involves the immune system. The immune system makes antibodies that work to protect the body against foreign substances like viruses and bacteria. Such foreign bodies are called antigens. When a person has lupus, his or her body is unable to determine the difference between antigens and the individual's cells and body tissues. As such, the immune system creates antibodies against the individual's own tissues. These antibodies are called autoantibodies. Depending on the type of lupus, a wide range of symptoms may be experienced, from rashes, hair loss, and achy, swollen joints to fever, anemia, and abnormal blood clotting. Though the disease can affect many parts of the body, individuals usually experience symptoms in only a few organs. There is no known cure for lupus. However,
One cause of this disease is environment. Some examples would be UV rays from the sun and fluorescent light bulbs, Sulfa drugs, Infection, Emotional stress, and more. Researchers do not know yet what type of environment specifically, but there ideas are most likely true. Another cause is hormones. Studies have shown that women began to have more lupus
These symptoms include chest pain, hair loss, anemia, mouth ulcers, headaches, dizziness, depression, confusion, and seizures. New symptoms may continue to appear years after the initial diagnosis due to the range of systems the disease affects. Just how serious a particular body system is affected varies from person to person. Lupus is directly associated with a myriad of conditions affecting different body systems such as inflammation of the kidneys (nephritis), inflammation of the lining of the chest cavity (pleuritis), central nervous system complications, inflammation of blood vessels (vasculitis), and various blood conditions such as anemia, leukopenia, and
As no lupus patients have similar symptoms, they don’t have an identical set of triggers. However, the common triggers include Stress, infection, sun exposure, or even seasonal flue. When you identify trigger within time, you can put in best efforts
