T. V Can Cause Blindness Myth

Acticle one states that,children are on a screen way to much." Children in the United States have an averge of 7.5 hours of screen time." Where as a frind of mine he is always on a screen.

Vision may impact on a child’s life when they are going though their development but not much as they could wear Glasses or contacts and the only time it would cases a problem is if the child brakes, looses, forgets to bring them with the child or forgets to puts them in their eyes.

Jacoby stated in his article “Silent that Idiot box” that letting your children watch too much television can ruin them in the long run. Television has the ability to lead children to violence and destroy their innocence. Television can be pleasing to the eye. According to Jacoby children don’t become educated from watching TV. The more TV they watch, the less educated they usually end up. I agree with him because when I use to watch television I would feel extremely sluggish and not want to do anything else. Watching television can have some effects towards your overall health. It also can lead to bad habits and prevents you from having a better outlook on life around you.

Spending that much time watching a televison screen can be very damaging for the eyes as opposed to reading a book, creating an art project, or just going out side to get some fresh air. An article from a scientific journal says that light from the screen confuses the viewers body clock this causes the veiwer to not geta decent amout of sleep at night.

For example, the reflections that come from the light of television screen could damage their eyes. For proof, you see most young children have eye glasses in this country where people watch a lot of television. Also the doctors recognize when they did research about the IQ of young children that those who watched television a long time had lower IQ than the other young children who did not watch television. For that reason doctors recommend parents minimize their children views. Doctors say, “Young children shouldn’t watch television more than 20 minutes a day”. I quote from C.D.A program.

Did you know that you can seriously damage your eyes when you stare at a computer screen. To begin I think that whenever you stare at a screen you can damage your brain, eyes, and hands. Also you could damage your eyes with a computer screen. In addition it can cause eye strain. Finally you can damage your hands. To sum it all up that is why kids should wear glasses when they look at eletronics.

Children should be restricted to the amount of time spent in front of any media screen. There are many health reasons, developmental reasons, and educational reasons as to why children shouldn’t be in front of media screens.

How often do you hear that staring at a computer screen all day will ruin your eyesight? I agree that where it may not cause blindness, it can come with certain health risks. It may cause computer vision syndrome (CVS), eyestrain, posture related issues, and muscle and joint injury. CVS, the medical condition that occur when staring at a computer screen for hours creating headaches, visual discomfort, neck pain, and eye fatigue. This occurs from the screen being too bright or dim. It makes it difficult for eyes to focus on the subject being studied causing the fatigue, discomfort, and headaches. Eyestrain occurs from viewing something at the same distance for lengthy intervals of time causing blurred vision, headaches, and temporary issues

In Watching TV makes you smarter, published in "The New York Times" on April 24, 2005, Steven Johnson argues for the multiple threads, fewer flashing arrows and social networking that make modern Television nourishing cognitive food. In answer to Johnson's article, "Carrie" posted Does watching TV make you stupid? on May 1, 2005. Carrie presents further blogs on May 3rd and May 7th, 2005; however, the gist of her arguments are contained in her first blog. Comparing the logic of Johnson's argument for and Carrie's argument against Television as cognitive food, I believe that Johnson presents the more convincing argument.

About 285 million people are visually impaired worldwide; 39 million of them are blind” (Facts about). Many people in the world are affected by blindness. This has been an ongoing problem for a long time. It has grown over time and gotten to be a massive problem is a person’s everyday life. Blindness is a problem because most cases of blindness can be avoided, it’s increasing tremendously, technology isn’t made for the blind, learning has to be altered, and it’s expensive.

First and foremost, the common believe is that watching TV cases severe damages to brain cells. It has been said that staring at a TV screen for hour is min-numbing, and very dangerous for developing brains. Staring at the screen nonstop for hours can cause developmental delays and diminish the number of brain cells. Yet, if we take this same concept, then we can also argue that staring at any one object would cause the same negative impact on our brain development and

To add, it harms a child's development issues because it gives off artificial encouragement to the senses. A child's vision can be harmed because of the quick movement of the images, and hearing can be impaired because of poor sound features. The overall aspect of it is, children learn better from interactive learning and experiencing emotions, talking to loved ones, and making friends to play with. With a television they get none of that, instead they develop short attention spans because of the various thins they "learn" in one sitting ("Television...").

Many factors can affect a child’s ability to focus and TV can be a big one. Numerous studies have been conducted on the effects of screen media on infants and toddlers and if TV has a negative effect on toddlers because of the distraction it can cause. Many times people assume that because they are watching a show or just simply leaving a TV on, that it does not affect the child’s ability to focus on a task. To find the effects of background television, Pempek, Kirkorian, and Anderson created a research with the hypothesis that caregivers assume that background TV has little or no effect because very young children do not appear to pay attention to it.

There are benefits to watching TV like gaining minimal knowledge, but in comparison to how harmful it can be that small amount of knowledge isn’t worth it. Also television can harm a child’s development, encourage laziness, and cause you to obtain an addiction to it. There are so many things that you can damage when you watch TV on a regular basis, why do this to yourself?
