TAMIU has helped me grow as an individual by expanding my knowledge base and allowing me to take another step closer to reaching my goal of attaining a rewarding university experience. After I read the mission statement, values, and vision of TAMIU, I felt amazed of knowing that this is an opportunity for me to explore my leadership potential. For example, my involvement in the student organization called Freshman Leadership Organization sharpened my leadership skills while encouraging moral ethics. As a student who is pursuing a career in the health care field as an optometrist, obtaining these two attributes will help me become a successful doctor. I believe that great leadership skills in a professional setting are crucial in order to cooperate
My numerous board experiences have developed my leadership skills. As a sophomore traveling to Honduras on a Global Medical Brigade, I was accountable for the finances and medical supplies. As a junior, I undertook roles of co-president of the Student Athletic Board and treasure of the Student Cancer Connection. As co-president, I organized a Special Olympics event, which teamed college athletes with these unique individuals. My senior year I am maintain my roles in these positions while also serving as Swim team captain. I will bring this positive leadership experience to Creighton University School of Medicine.
Above the requirement of my master’s degree program to complete an administrative residency for a period of 9 to 12 months, my decision to pursue a fellowship at a hospital was based on the educational and professional opportunities the program provides. The practical experience and exposure across the organization will truly lay the groundwork for a successful career and bridge the gap between academic theory and technology and practical application. Leadership is an applied skill, but too often, it is left to chance as something to be picked up on the job. Progressing as a successfully leader requires more. The fellowship will provide opportunities to develop and strengthen my leadership skills, which will maximize my level of contribution in a permanent entry-level position and increase my marketability significantly.
The concepts of leadership, “to assist people to become more competent, purposeful, and ethical,” (Mission and vision, n.d.), fit within the mission of Siena Heights University because the institution fosters the growth of leaders by incorporating skills outside of the classroom. Educators have long known that a significant portion of student learning in college occurs outside the classroom and that faculty-student interaction is an important part of the college experience. (Cox, B. E., & Orehovec, E., 2007, p. 357). Significant research has demonstrated the importance of interaction between faculty members and students, both in and outside of the classroom (Cox, B. E., & Orehovec, E., 2007, p. 343). Faculty members possess a great deal of knowledge that can be imparted to student. This knowledge could be educational, life skills, and personal experiences that allow the student a contextual view point.
As one of the sixteen members of the inaugural class of Terry Scholars at UT Arlington, I have proven my ability to lead. My passion for leadership has given me the initiative to get involved with as many organizations as possible, and network within those groups. Freshman Leaders on Campus is the perfect medium through which I can refine my skills and collaborate with other leaders all across campus.
Being a student at TAMIU has helped me expand my knowledge base and allowed me to take another step closer to reaching my goal of attaining a rewarding university experience. Over the course of this semester, I have learned about the theoretical foundation of leadership and management. From various leadership styles to numerous learning tools have all aided in shaping me to become an effective leader not only in the health care profession, but everyday life as well. Through utilizing these tools, I have managed to put them into actions through working individually and in teams which has helped me to learn more about myself and the type of leader I am. Throughout this action plan I will reflect on my definition of leadership, what I’ve learned about myself in the capacity to demonstrate leadership, my leadership strengths and weaknesses and three action steps that will help me to develop my leadership in the future.

Leadership is an important quality that students should try to pursue. A leader, by definition, is a person who leads or commands a group, organization, or country. This generation is the future of the world. Characteristics of future leaders should be able to think critically, act wisely, and work skillfully. St. Thomas is motivated to help educate students that I believe are much like myself. I reckon I have exhibited these traits through my education, working, and social life.
With the gaining knowledge and exploring how to be an effective college student, networking contributed greatly to my growth. By engaging in what the resources campus had to offer, I discover the possibility of a Leadership Certificate. Participating in workshops, meeting with leadership coaches, and participating in leadership course, this has been the highlight of my year, thus far. I appreciate in becoming an engaged citizen, because now I know that I want to seek a minor in leadership as well.
As a member of multiple extra-curricular activities such as sports, I was greatly impacted by being led by upperclassmen, it is there where I noticed that leadership is a meaningful quality. Being able to lead requires a great deal of responsibility and honor.
The Doctoral program in “Healthcare Management and Leadership“ will provide me with an opportunity to learn more about different perspectives and approaches of leaders in health care organizations to provide the best quality of care, patient safety, and patient satisfaction. This doctoral program will prepare me as an effective leader in a healthcare industry to see this organization as a “system” - a combination of people, processes, and other resources that, working together, achieve an end. Also, I believe that I am able to be a great instructor in university to share my knowledge and experience with students to encourage them to transform their ideas and potentials to the innovation culture in their workplaces.
Applying what I learned to the role of a Program Leader, and helping me to become a productive and engaged member, I will have to make responsible decisions with myself and the OTeam in mind. I believe that part of being a leader is making decisions with others in mind. College starts at orientation for the incoming students, and I want to make it one of their favorite memories at IU. Being a part of the OTeam, I would be behind the scenes getting everything ready for orientation so I would have to make appropriate decisions to help the students and families know they are safe and excited to be at IU. Learning about myself through my experience, I want to be able to help others to learn about themselves too. It might be tough but making personal

One of the topics in organizational development today is leadership. Leadership is what individuals do to mobilize other people in organizations and communities. According to Kouzes & Posner, there are five practices and ten commitments of exemplary leadership. The five practices of exemplary leadership include: Model the way, inspire a shared vision, challenge the process, enable others to act, and encourage the heart. In the Leadership Challenge, Kouzes and Posner found similar patterns and actions of leadership that created the essentials to achieve success. Utilizing the research conducted by Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner, I have created a leadership plan that would apply to the Admission Department at Texas Wesleyan University.
As I began this Leadership in Education course, I entered with an open mind and eagerness to learn about varying leadership styles and approaches. Over the years, I have fortunately been exposed to numerous genuine, caring, exceptional leaders in higher education. They all shared one commonality: student-centeredness. This has been my compass and guides me in my work. Through this course, I wanted to learn how I can better support students, whether directly or indirectly by leading other professionals and para-professionals in their work with students.
