After researching the reader demographics of this magazine I’ve come to discover who actually reads The New Yorker. The statistics I found on the reader demographic consisted of age, sex, social economic background, education and political views. When this magazine was first created in 1925, the publishers had a target group of readers that they were attempting to reach out to, still today the same group of readers are targeted.

Cosmopolitan magazine, as it is today, is an international woman’s magazine involving topics on sex, relationships, beauty, fashion and health. The variation of Cosmopolitan (Cosmo) we have in today’s society is rather sexually explicit in many of its articles and covers. This was not always the case. Cosmopolitan was founded by Schlicht & Field in 1886. The magazine was originally created to be a “family magazine” . Cosmopolitan introduced articles on family and home life. In 1888, Cosmo gained a new editor in E. D. Walker. He would add new elements to the magazine. These included serial fiction, book reviews and color illustrations.
First of all, propaganda occurs very often in the world we live in today. It has happened in cuba with Fidel castro and even in the United States during the wars. Propaganda is used widely in the book, "The bigger your market, Montag, the less you handle controversy, remember that! All the minor minor minorities with their navels to be kept clean. Authors, full of evil thoughts. lock up your typewriters. They did. Magazines became a nice blend of vanilla
The fact that a person would use being published in a magazine to gain a reader’s trust is very irresponsible and it actually hurts their credibility. Magazines are not viewed as an academic source and for this reason most professors do not allow magazines to be a source for their students when writing academic papers. If the article had been published in a more serious book or setting, then the reader would trust the content a lot more rather than being skeptical of the content. Authors can even state ‘facts’ that are not necessarily the whole truth in order to gain the reader's trust which is why logos can be
Scholarly source and magazine articles may share a common level of knowledge on a certain article topic; some magazine articles can be written by a journalist with an extensive knowledge on the article subject (Academic Journals, n.d.). Some magazine articles are to inform the public on its
The magazine Ladies Repository: A Monthly Periodical Devoted to Literature, Arts, and Religion is a magazine that was published in 1800 and was targeted towards young women. The magazine was a way to help teach and encourage women of the time on how to properly fit in and behave according to the rules that society had placed on them. It taught them how to be considered an ideal, cultured woman with high morals and spiritual standards. Although many readers today would argue that the teachings and ideas taught by this magazine are extremely outdated and outrageously sexist, one must realize that this was society’s standard for women during the 1800’s.

Magazine and blog writing could differ greatly in tone and content. I read a review from the Wall Street Journal and a review from the Lainey Gossip website on the Netflix original series, “Stranger Things,” and analyzed the different types of writing styles. The Wall Street Journal used a magazine writing style and, in contrast, Lainey Gossip used a blog format. Wall Street Journal utilized the objective facts for the reader to make a decision, while Lainey Gossip showcased the storyline yet intertwined persuasive comments to make the show seem more desirable. These are the defining characteristics of magazine and blog writing: one made a concise summary, while the latter made the review personal and subjective.
For this research, the unit of observation are magazines as obviously will be making my observations in magazines. What are the reasons for choosing this medium? Convenience, easy to secure, and also it is quite easy to analyse compared to other mediums. However, there is one important criterion for magazines, such as they have to be in English language as it will be important in identifying gender stereotyping in the writing. Though, there are criteria that are not important to me such as the genre (men’s and women’s magazine) and also, the magazines will not be filtered in terms of their release date
These are just some of the ways Playboy has idolized women, but that’s not all that the company and the magazine are about. In an article titled “When Playboy ruled the world”, written by Brett Popplewell, he talks about some of the cultural impacts of Playboy. Popplewell talks in his article about how Playboy is more than just a magazine that displays nude photos of women. It is a magazine that also held many great articles, fiction pieces, poetry, and interviews
They use appealing and conflicting titles to put the reader in two minds and forces them to read on and find out if the articles tilte was accurate. They also use larger fonts for titles to express their importance and force them to be read first. In the last few years, magazines have had to change because of economic and technology trends. Some of the main reasons are the development of technology and the expansion of TV stations, as a result, putting magazines in a rough economic hardship, most people will not pay for a magazine when they can find the information through the Internet or TV. As a result, many high profile magazines had to shut down, such as modern brides and gourmet. Since then magazines have gone through many changes and trends. Especially in the last 30 years. Although, there are many causes, people and events that influence social changes. The Internet has had the most effect on why and how magazines have had to change. As a result, the magazine will never be
The three main categories were women’s magazines, men’s magazines, and magazines that appealed to the general interest. Döring and Pöschl (2006) found that 54.8% of pictures of women in the general interest magazines were depicted. Generally, magazines either advertised certain products using people, or have a page for certain celebrities. It was rare to read a magazine that does not have a picture of a woman in it. Pictures of women can be interpreted more thoroughly by not only judging the sexuality of the ladies, but the overall condition the women were
