The Teaching Pyramid Project taught me a great deal of the supportive relationship and environment in order to promote the development of children. It is a crucial to establish the relationship that teachers and parents can work together to promote the social and emotional skills of children. Because children learn from everyday life experience, by observing the others, attitude and responses of teachers and parents can influence the social and emotional skills of children. As educators, we need to be the positive model for children and need to educate parents by introduce the effective parenting style and the positive reinforcement technique. This paper has presented an argument on how a child’s development is strongly influenced by environmental and cultural influences as well as parenting styles and education. Children begin to learn and experiment with social skills at school, allowing them to learn and understand social skills necessary for later life in life. Children who receive schooling at an early age perform better later in academics. I hope that by teaching in the ways that I described will help me accomplish this. Positive relationship between teachers and pupils are necessary to provide a good environment for children to feel safe and happy enough to concentrate on their education. Effective communication has to cover social interaction between children and other children, adults amongst other adults at school as well. If there are any problems in that area the support for each other will be less effective and also information will be passed on more reluctantly. A positive relationship between adults working at school helps to build and maintain highly effective team that works together to provide the best learning environment for children. They will confidently share their thoughts and ideas without hesitation that somebody will listen to them without ignoring them or laugh about them. If the adult doesn’t follow the rule ‘firm and fair’ they will have problems to manage the behaviour of the children and they either lose the respect or they stop being cooperative during the lessons out of dislike. The consequences will have an impact on the whole learning environment. If the member of staff doesn’t listen properly the children will not feel understood and valued and they might get a lower self-steam because they get the impression that they are not important enough. The children will only learn that you have to be loud and aggressive to make adults listen to them, which would be a reward for bad behaviour. A respectful is needed both with co-workers and parents/guardians of the children. Parents and any other adult that comes into the school is more likely to support the teacher or school if there is a strong and effective relationship in place. This positive relationship with the parents/guardians then benefits the pupils. If there is a strong connection, then anything that needs to be carried out at home can be relayed to the parent or guardian and the continuity can carry on. This then benefits the children or young person as they are aware of what is expected of them both in school and at home. A parent/guardian know more about their children so therefor it is important to listen to what the parents have to say.
The best way to inform them, is through practice by displaying a proper behaviour, in a constant manner. Teachers and teacher assistants have the function to be a role model, this includes to be kind and to respect each other. Children learn by observing the others, this can be underpinned with Bronfenbrenner Education Theory (1979). Bronfenbrenner believes that the attitude of the children gets influenced by their whole environment. This includes schools, as well as friends and neighbours or communities.
The importance of establishing a strong and meaningful educator-child relationship has been acknowledged and stressed by both NQS and VEYLDF. Parents and kids don’t spend enough time with each other and the main problem is school. Kids already spend 7 hours every day away from one another but they also spend part of their after school life doing projects, studying, and homework. Spending more time around one another will build trust between children and parent. Kids will start coming to their parents for problems and parents can give them solutions and advice from personal experiences.
It is important that good relationships are established between teachers and the parents of their pupils. This is because if the parents are kept informed and are interested in what their child is doing then they will encourage the child to do the best they can and to do out of school learning and activities. It is also important that the parent trusts the school and the teacher to do the best by the child and the best way to create this trust is to keep the parent in the loop. This principle covers beneficence, autonomy and trustworthiness.
Throughout the stage of childhood the attitudes and the values can be passed down to the child. When children are young they are deeply influenced by their parents and this is because their self-concept is forming. They can acquire skills that are the basic foundation for learning throughout childhood. Therefore, a strong support system in early childhood can greatly affect their development.
