Technology of the past 20 years has become a focal point of teaching and learning. As a teacher, it is my job to facilitate the learning for an individual by creating an environment that not only conducive for learning, but also places the child in a position to discover and learn them for themselves. Technology has given teachers to opportunity to take learning beyond the classroom, and has begun to reshape their role in the learning process.

Also technology has opened lines of communication between educators and parents to keep students on track, and help teachers educate better.
Society is becoming more reliant upon technology every day. Technology is found in hospitals, banks, grocery stores, homes, and schools across the nation. As technology becomes more prevalent in the classroom, teachers need to learn how to use it effectively. Differentiating instruction, facilitating learning, enhancing communication, and facilitating instruction are all appropriate ways to use technology in the classroom (Standards for Teachers). Once these types of technology are mastered, student performance, creativity, and thirst for knowledge should begin to increase.
The biggest problem with today’s education is how rapid technology is advancing. So rapid, in fact, that schools are attempting to keep up, but are sadly falling short. In today’s society technology usage is so much more widespread than it was just five years ago. The new toys can allow schools to broaden their curriculum. Since most work can be done on a single device, kids can work at their own pace and potentially reach heights they could never reach with book, pen, and paper. The benefits of this new tech greatly outweigh the downsides. The biggest problem with technology in classrooms is their lack of use. Technology is everywhere, it is involved in almost every part of our culture. It affects how we live, work, play, and most importantly learn. With technology being such a fundamental part of our lives and growing each day, it only makes sense that schools incorporate technology in the classrooms. Even though many people support the use of technology in schools, there are those that have concerns about the effectiveness of technology and whether or not it undermines education to solely prepare students for the workforce. Despite the concerns, technology is being integrated with classroom lessons daily, and proving how beneficial it is for student success.
This school is missing out on an excellent learning tool by not participating in ‘the bring your own device’ initiative. The BYOB program allows teachers to check up on and assess how students are participating within their classroom using digital resources. At University primary school we have outdated digital programs, the computers and digital resources are archaic and will not assist in the learning of the students within the school. The BYOD program will allow for student growth that will set the students up for secondary school, tertiary education and career life.
Cell phones have been a part of most lives for many years and can be very useful for education. Most cellular devices have some type of writing or studying app available for download. Even though parents may discourage them, they can help their kids more than they may believe. Most schools do not include these devices in their education program because of problems caused by them. However, they can offer apps that can be more lucid than a standard educator! Cell phones have expanded to become a pro education tool with many award-winning education apps that have expanded the world of education tremendously. Many of these tools are free and available to kids that cannot afford education, helping them expand their education. In many ways, cell phones can be educational.

When asked about the importance of technology in education today, I realize that the question is extremely broad and evasive. And at the same time, I understand that the question is an important one. Technology is a set of tools for school staff, but it is only a set of tools. Some forms of technology can assist a great teacher to be even better, but will not necessarily help a bad teacher be good.
One advantage of using smartphones and other electronic devices is that they have all the tools necessary to boost students’ learning. Electronic devices in the classroom can be also useful in delivering materials directly to their personal devices. In addition, students can watch tutorials recorded by a teacher in order to gain new knowledge, listen to the instructions on how the assignment should be done, or strengthen the areas of needs. Finally, in order to promote participation, students may use avatars or nick names; this will ensure anonymity and encourage reluctant students to share their ideas.
