Bill Gates said “Technology is just a tool. In terms of getting the kids working together and motivating them, the teacher is most important.” The definition of technology is a branch of knowledge that deals with the use and creation of technical means and their interaction with society, environment and life. To teach is to impart knowledge and to give instruction. The use of technology in the elementary school classroom using bring your own device (BYOD), smartphones, iPad and laptops is greatly enhancing the students involvement in class. Bring your own device (BYOD) greatly enhances the students involvement in class. If the students are not worried about writing notes down, they will look at the board and participate more in the conversation. By taking a picture of the presentation or whiteboard, the students will have a reference to go back to if there is a question of whether or not every note was written down (Bearden 2). “...in seventh grade Reading and Study Skills teacher Kathy Peters’ frequently uses mobile devices to take notes and keep track of assignments...she will allow the students to come by at the end of the day to take a picture of an assignment on the whiteboard or text themselves a homework reminder from their cell phones (Bearden 2)”.
