Have you ever wondered why we power everything we use with batteries or electricity of some kind? Even our gas propelled vehicles are ran by electricity and a battery at startup. With how much gas costs to make and how inefficient motor vehicles are, it makes one begin to wonder, is there a better way. Well yes there is the route of alternate fuels, they allow the normal use gasoline or diesel powered cars to be ran on corn based ethanol or used vegetable oil. But that still has emissions and cost a lot to convert your everyday driver into an eco-friendly corn burner. Is there a better solution to this convocation of problems? Well Elon Musk, the owner of Tesla Motors, set out to fix these problems. “His first product in 2008 was the Tesla …show more content…
However, the biggest difference is the price. The Fusion is $16,379, and the Prius is $20,061, both being certified used vehicles and both using suggested retail value (“Kelly Blue Book”). Now you may ask why the price difference, why would you pay for the extra mileage but less horsepower? Well what the Prius lacks in power and affordability it makes up in gas prices. Yes the MPG is an estimate based on driving style, however it will get better mileage than the Fusion and therefore saving all the money you would normally spend on gas to put towards the payments or the maintenance it requires. Which is of worthy mentioning, the cost of repairs for the Prius is significantly high than the Fusion as it requires a certified hybrid vehicle mechanic to repair it. The Fusion can be repair by your everyday do-it-yourself mechanic. So in the long run the Fusion is a cheaper and more intelligent option for a family vehicle. Before you consider a hybrid vehicle for economic reasons, such as leaving less of a carbon foot print, or not making as much carbon monoxide output as you would driving a normal gasoline powered car, realize this, to get the materials necessary for the hybrid motors it requires an extreme amount of mining and relocation of wildlife. Not to forget the enormous amount of tailings and hazards left behind as a byproduct of the materials needed. This causes more damage to the environment than the emissions from a normal gasoline powered
Many people buy hybrid cars because they have been told that hybrids are much more eco-friendly than any other vehicles out on the market and they feel proud for supporting the Mother Nature. Surprisingly, it is a fact that a recent report announced that the Toyota Prius has a higher life time energy cost than Hummer H1 SUV (kentlaw.edu). It also states, “There are, however, environmental costs to mining and smelting (in Canada) 1,000 tons a year of zinc for the battery-powered second motor, and the shipping of the zinc 10,000 miles - trailing a cloud of carbon - to Wales for refining and then to China for turning it into the component that goes to a battery factory in Japan” (kentlaw.edu). In other words, the hybrids emit less carbon dioxide and other gases but it releases far more energies and toxic gases into atmosphere at production and disposal stage.
There has been lots of controversy on whether hybrid vehicles are environmentally better than gas vehicles. In this new age of technology and vast growth of human population, there would have to be ways to make driving environmentally healthy considering the fact that millions of people drive(Goffman, “Electric Car Batteries Could Provide Energy for the Smart Grid”). Hybrid cars use clean electric , while gas powered cars use harmful polluting fossil fuels. For the most part, to make sure that this world becomes cleaner, hybrid cars will definitely need to be used in the future. Hybrid cars are environmentally better than gas cars.
Some people have also adopted the hybrid car trend, although many people think hybrid cars help the environment as well. Hybrid cars still uses some form of a gasoline when it is being used, thus creating carbon dioxide emissions. Whereas, the electric vehicle produces no emissions.
Through all of this information, Tesla and traditional gas powered car owners have learned more about the Tesla and how it is not as environmentally friendly as society may portray it to be. Hopefully the readers of this paper learn that you must be educated before they buy a certain product.
Thesis statement: it is hypothesized that compared with the gas powered vehicles, hybrids offer more benefits in maintenance, are cost-effective, and most importantly environmental-friendly.
To offset perceived reliability problems, companies are offering strong guarantees: The Honda Insight has an eight-year/80,000-mile warranty on most of the power train, including batteries, and a three-year/36,000-mile warranty on the rest of the car. The Toyota Prius has an eight-year/100,000-mile warranty on the battery and hybrid systems and a three-year/36,000-mile warranty on everything else. The motors and batteries in these cars do not require maintenance over the life of the vehicle. The engine in a hybrid doesn 't even need any more maintenance than in any other car. Due to the fact that hybrids have regenerative braking, brake pads may also last longer than those of a normal car.
Tesla is an automobile company that designs and manufactures electric cars. Cars produce a lot of carbon emissions that are ejected into our natural atmosphere, leaving us vulnerable to things like pollution and greenhouse gases. In order to help positively the environment we live in, an electric car is a great step forward. It does not emit toxic gases or smoke in the environment as it runs on clean energy source. Electric cars are far more efficient than any other kind of car, and because they are the ultimate multi-fuel cars. The neat thing about electricity is that pretty much any burnable fuel can be converted to electricity efficiently. we can make electricity in so many different ways such as we can put a million solar panels on our
“If you fuel your journey on the opinions of others, you are going to run out of gas.” Said by Steve Maraboli, who is the author of Unapologetically You: Reflections on Life and the Human Experience. In the beginning, individuals told Mr. Musk that his companies, which are: SpaceX, Solar City and Tesla Motors would possibly fail at everything they’re attempting to bring to the new world. Tesla Motors takes the word energy to another level. Instead of the basic gas cars that all auto companies take part in making, Tesla makes all electric cars no fuel. The electricity that powers Tesla’s vehicles is sourced from nuclear plants, natural gases, hydroelectric, coal
“Hybrid” cars can be good for the environment because they are an “alternative, being used to decrease the emissions of vehicles and to decrease the amount of fossils being used” (Kukreja). “Hybrids also cost less to operate because of fuel usage” (Kukreja). Hybrids benefit from using less fuel by saving money and by stopping carbon dioxide, volatile organic compounds, and particulate matter from entering the environment. Less fossil fuels being used means less money spent on fuel! Hybrid cars have an electric motor that runs the transmission, so the gasoline engine never directly powers the car. Even though hybrid cars take gas, the car uses nowhere as much as an actual gasoline powered car.
The major weakness of Fusion Hybrid is the design. Even though the exterior has changed over time, it still doesn’t look attractive. The design is still limited in original or traditional shapes. The exterior doesn’t have any innovations at all. One reason for the problem may be because Fusion Hybrid just releases two models, and Ford has to focus on improving the fuel-efficiency and built-in technology. However, design is still a major drawback of Fusion Hybrid. If the design is improve, it will become the new strength.
First, we will looked at the mileage. We drive about 1200 miles a month. If we take the price of gas, which is about $2.20 per gallon, we pay about $121 in one month. If we take it one step further, we pay about $1,452 in one year. A lot of money for travel. So how much does this hybrid save us? Well based on the mileage, the cost of gas, and
Yes, hybrid cars are way more expensive than a gasoline powered car but that is at time of purchase. Studies show that gasoline powered cars aren’t as safe as hybrid cars. The hybrid cars burn less fossil fuel therefore emitting fewer gases. The hybrid
Driving a car is something that can be quite exhilarating, as it makes the person feel free, as if they can go anywhere that their hearts aspire. With the unveiling of the new hybrid vehicles, there is an alternative means to get to an end. These vehicles are some of the best for the money, while keeping things such as the atmosphere and gas mileage in mind. They are many other improvement in driving a hybrid car, even over these huge ones that make many humans convert; even if it's just for the fact that they are cheaper when it comes to insurance.
Hybrids are deservingly known for their fuel economy, a 2016 Prius c can get up to 50 MPG (FuelEconomy.gov, US Department of Energy). They are also known for being kind to the environment: Toyota advertises the Prius c, as seen below, as an “everyday eco fun sized for the city” on their website (Toyota, toyota.com/priusc). In Kia’s Super Bowl LI commercial for their new hybrid crossover, the Niro, they use the tagline: “it’s hard to be an eco warrior, but it’s easy to drive like one.” Hybrid owners agree with this; they can be seen driving around with proud smiles on their faces, knowing that they are saving the earth. But they have likely done little research, because
While the energy companies may not get as much of your money, you may or may not see a net benefit financially. A simple fuel savings calculator can give you a rough idea of how much you will save by switching to a hybrid vehicle. However, at the present rate of price differences between higher-priced hybrid cars and traditional cars, it is almost impossible to save enough in fuel to make up the difference. Consumeraffairs.com estimates it would take driving 120,000 miles before the cost difference between a hybrid Toyota Prius and a traditional Toyota Corolla was made up in fuel savings.
