How Does Gender Affect The Perception Of Massage

We had four age groups in the surveys made by my group; 12-19, 20-29, 30-40, and 40 and above. The main thing I wanted to pull from our surveys was how different the age groups perceived massage, but also how gender had an effect. Much to my surprise it really differed, most people had completely different feelings and understandings about massage within the ages of 12-29 and the ages of 30 and up. The ages had differences in opinion on certain things such as card payments, online versus calling to book and music options, but less on things like services offered, diligence, regular appointments and previous massages. This just shows that you have to be able to appeal to all ages, it is important to stay on top of technology to keep up with the millennials who will only use modern devices. My favorite question of all was; would you be comfortable with your spouse getting a massage from a therapist of the opposite sex? From the ages of 12 to 29 almost every person said no, from 30 and up every person surveyed said yes. Not only do I think this has a lot to do with massage, I think it has a lot to do with society in general. As a massage therapist I think it means a lot for your business to be a woman, as sad as that is. Women are comfortable with women and most of the customer base is women, but also men are more comfortable with women too. In almost every age group the people who had never had a massage were men.
