The American Civil War
The Civil War was the main focus in America 's history. The Civil War was determined on what kind of nation it will advance toward, but the American Revolution made the United States. Would the United States continue existing as the greatest slaveholding country on the planet? This was an answer that was left unsolved after the change. The differences between the free and slave states over the liveliness of national government to prohibit enslavement in the areas that had not yet advanced towards to becoming a state is the reason that started the Civil war. To clarify this issue, a man named Stephen Douglas started the influence to make a change. This was

The South was country based; however, the North was more mechanical. The atmosphere made it difficult to create crops all year around which is the reason why the North was not so country like. In view of the way that they can 't grow much in the North is the reason they did not require slaves. Despite the fact that the South was in desperate need of slaves in light of their production of cash; which was cotton. The North gave equal openings for work to everyone, including African Americans. They weren’t in need of slaves; therefore, they made them a part of their society. The South, regardless, benefitted using the slave work to pick their cotton.
Picking what states will be slave states was another issue between the North and South. The North ended up taking control of Mississippi because of the Siege of Vicksburg, which was General Grant 's first attempt on striking the South. The South expected to take the war toward the North with Robert E. Lee 's power. Taking control of a huge Northern city was his target. He did this in light of the fact to attempt and make Northerners sign a peace settlement, which occurred in Gettysburg. This later prompts the Gettysburg Address. President Lincoln then displayed a talk about showing the correspondence of people. Out of the number of problems between the North and the South, the most basic problem would be their point of views on slavery. The fear that the spread of slavery would
The North’s economy was based on textiles, shipping, and skilled trades. Their climate was not suited for the same type of agricultural products that the South produced like cotton, sugar, rice and tobacco. Northern states like New England manufactured and shipped goods like guns, clocks, plows and axes (page 399). One reason for the South’s dependence on slavery is because their economy relied on the existence of slave labor. For example, the cultivation of cotton depended largely on slave labor, with 75% of the crop grown on plantations,
The north and the south both had political differences about leaders and beleifs which created conflict between both sides. Southern leaders were usaully rich plantation owners, who “had a powerfull influence over the south.”(Deberal & white pg 382) As these white rich southerners influenenced the south, some of them loved to “shower off their wealth by living in beautiful mansions.”(Deberal & white pg 383) Some of the white southerners loved to flaunt there money around. The north had different beliefs than in the south. The northerners beleived that slavery should be “abolished”(Deberal & white pg 357) They thought that the slaves should of been treated equaly. The south had different beleifs than in the north. They treated them no more than if they were “property”(Deberal & white pg 355) The southerners didnt even think of slaves as equals and treated them like animals. After all the fighting and
The North and the South have significant differences between their geography, economy, transportation, and most importantly, way of life. The North was strongly against slavery but on the other hand, the South was did want to continue the practice of slavery which led to major conflict between these two regions. The slavery in the South had led to new technological advances such as the cotton gin by Eli Whitney which picked more cotton at a time and still had more efficiency. This also caused a major increase in slavery within the southern regions. While this was happening in the south, the northern states were developing an industrialized system which would create more profit. An example of this would be of Francis Cabot Lowell’s invention of a factory system that brought manufacturing steps together in one place to increase efficiency. As you can see, the north and south had different methods of living their lives, but eventually it led to conflict between one another.
Before the Civil War, the North and South's attempt to resolve matters at any time was through compromise. One significant issue that could not have a solution found over time was slavery. Northerners supported the abolition of slavery. However, the South depended on slavery. As this conflict intensified, the South figured that compromise would no longer function. The South's breaking point was Lincoln's election. The South withdrew from the Union; the Civil War had begun. The South seceded from the Union because of opposition towards slavery, the fear that abolition of slavery was a threat to their way of life, and that Lincoln would get rid of it.
The Civil War was caused by the election of Abraham Lincoln, racial tension, and problems with people’s rights.
The Civil War happened because of slavery but thats not the only reason. America was on the road to war. (Crash Course #18) After Lincoln became the president, Southerners felt they had no power political system that was controlled by voters in the North that they felt no connection to. The many difference between the North and South caused conflict that eventually led to war.
The North was blessed with an abundance of natural resources and a growing population which led to industrialization. This caused an increase in immigrants and no more demand for slavery. In the South the fertile soil and the hot temperature made it ideal for farming and growing crops like cotton and tobacco. Since agriculture was so profitable Southerners didn’t really see a need for industrial development. This meant that their whole society was completely based on farming and on slaves doing the work. The North and South differences didn’t just involve slavery but it also included cultural, economic, political, and power differences. A major disputation between the two sides was whether the new territories and states should have legalized slavery. Northerners worried that if slavery crept northward, slaves would take jobs that white workers might otherwise be hired to do. In contrast, Southerners had a lifestyle and economy supported by slave labor, and they worried that free states and territories abutting slave states might harbor fugitive slaves and negatively influence the institution of slavery. Both sides were concerned about the balance of power and that Congress might lean towards the other
The Civil War brought the United States down to its knees. This blood-soaked conflict became one of the most brutal wars that this country has taken arms to and the destruction from the result of the war validates this view. Thus a period coined as Reconstruction started where the main objectives of the national government were to rebuild the southern confederate states and to protect the rights of the newly freed slaves. Throughout this tumultuous period, three significant court cases, US v. Cruikshank, US v. Reese, and US v. Anthony, used race and gender in the United States to shape and limit what it means to be a citizen with alleged “privileges and immunities.”
When it comes to nature the strong survives and the week get kicked out of the circle. When it comes to humans they survive by hard work and pushing through the hard times. The Civil War the united states were devastated and people started looking for ways to start over. Americans weren’t the only ones looking for a new start either. Immigrants from China, Ireland, and Germany flooded to the united states looking for jobs and gave way to Darwinist using this to better their profit. By doing that it took away jobs from thousands of Americans. When the gilded age came to play people took control and in these times they used the poor as a way of making a profit. Weather it’s the economy, religion or society itself Darwinism ruled the minds
Starting in 1865, the United States began to experience a series of changes and transformations that completely altered the landscape of the country. On the political side, the federal government had to deal with the aftermath of the Civil War and faced the challenge of reintegrating southern states back into the union while also attempting to institute desegregation movements in the South. From a social standpoint, almost four million slaves were freed by the end of the Civil War and in search of a better life, while a wide majority of women saw their roles begin to change–as there was a 307% increase in women joining labor forces from 1880-1930. Meanwhile on the economic side, the entire nation was undergoing the most significant industrial expansion to date, which would completely alter everyday life. All of these profound and rapid changes left American citizens in a state of disarray and in search for order, as they worried about how these changes would affect their lives and social statuses. This growing paranoia among American citizens, especially in the upper class, culminated with laws and court rulings being passed that ultimately favored the wealthy elites and prevented these changes from taking power away from the hands of the people that already had control.
A century later, the differences between the free and slave states over the power of the national government to prohibit slavery in the new territories obtained from the Mexican War had created discrepancies within the Union. The result of these differences led to the Civil War, which was an important event in America 's Enlightenment. Furthermore, we need to remember that the American Revolution (1776-1783) created the United States; the Declaration of Independence is the document that the founders of the nation wrote to express what they wanted for the new nation. On the other hand, the Civil War (1861-1865) determined what kind of nation it would be because the war tried to resolve points omitted by the Revolution. One of these points was that whether the United States was to keep having slavery as an economic system. Moreover, if the Union, which
During the first century of the United States as an organized country , it experienced an unprecedented amount of growth. It had a territory that stretched from the Pacific to the Atlantic; an industrial economy was slowly starting to form. Despite these accomplishments, the United States had one major problem standing in the way of it becoming a truly great country, the issue of slavery;slavery slowly drove the nation apart ever since the country was formed in 1776. Slavey clearly drew lines in the nation between the South which heavily relied on slavery for economics, and the North which opposed the institution of slavery as being immoral and clearly defining constitutional rights. The issue of slavery was heavily exacerbated by the idea of manifest destiny; manifest destiny was the idea that the United States should expand across North America since many believed it was their god given right. Slavery combined with the new territories acquired from manifest destiny ultimately contributed to the south’s secession of the union and the civil war because manifest destiny exacerbated the effects slavery had already had on the nation. Slavery had always caused tension between the North and South because slavery had always been an institution that the south full-heartedly swore by; despite the North’s unfavorable view of slavery, they couldn’t stop slavery since slavery was so engraved in the southern culture . Manifest destiny exacerbated these effects because politicians from
The United States dealt through many problems and challenges that they were forced to overcome. Throughout the battles that The U.S. faced, they encountered many benefits that shaped them. Such as the conflict in the west, the gilded age the change and industrialization, along with the progressive area were events that lead to the problems and issues that the United States addressed.
The United States have been in many wars over 100 years. It has changed our country in many different ways. The United States have been successful in all the wars we have been in. I’m gone talk about my favorite wars.
In 1861, a horrific war began. Nobody had any idea that this war would become the deadliest war in American history. It wasn’t a regular war, it was a civil war opposing the Union in the North and the Confederate States in the South.. The Civil War cost many people’s lives on the battlefield and beyond. In addition it cost an extreme amount of money for the nation which possibly could have been avoided if the war had turned to happen a little differently.
