It seems as if everyday now, there are commercials and news reports about abused animals. Many people do not seem to care about what happens to animals. Even some pet owners do not think that there is anything wrong with keeping their dog out in the backyard, tied up. There is approximately 3 to 4 million animals that are abandoned each year and many, like dogs or cats, are euthanized in animal shelters. The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), estimates there is nearly one million animals that are abused each year. Many animal abusers go unnoticed, so should they be considered criminals for their actions?
In the United States, there are many states that have very similar punishments for people that abuse of animals. Several have to

Hope for Paws is an organization founded by Audrey and Eldad Hagar. It was created to help animals in the county who suffer and die every year because of negligence and abuse, and their facebook page helped create a huge network of rescuers from all over the world. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) is another organization that help animals. The ASPCA was the first organization in the Western Hemisphere, and since 1866 ¨hundreds of laws have been enacted on the federal, state, and local levels, providing protections to many species of animals. They strengthen anti-cruelty laws, protect animals from slaughter, and stop animal fights. One of the largest and most known organization is People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, also known as Peta. The founders of Peta are Ingrid Newkirk and Alex Pacheco and founded in March 1980. Peta is an American animal rights organization. They mostly focus on factory farms, clothing trade, laboratories, and in the entertainment industry. A peaceful protest can help spread the word, like having signs and posters. Using social media can also help by making a page or a website with information about animal abuse. Having a gathering and speaking to groups addressing animals abuse and how to solve the problem or where you can report it. You can also volunteer at a local animal shelter or even start a fundraiser. Another great way to spread the word about animal cruelty is by starting a petition, either online or on a paper having people sign it, if they have the same opinion as
PETA, though it does many things, has four main objectives. They focus on animal cruelty on factory farms, which are also known as confined animal feeding operations (CAFOs) and intensive livestock operations (ILOs). These farms are more worried about profits and high volumes of goods than they are about human health, safe food, the environment, fair treatment of animals, and the surrounding economy (Factory Farms). PETA also focuses on cruel treatment to animals in laboratories, in the fur trade, and in the entertainment industry (like Khartoum). They also work on projects helping birds, beavers, and abused backyard dogs, as some examples. To reach the public, PETA uses many tactics, including working “through public education, cruelty investigations, research, animal rescue, legislation, special events, celebrity involvement, and direct action.” (PETA: Official Page). PETA tries to reach the public any way possible.
The article claims that some sort of registry needs to be established. For instance, an abuser could ignore their restrictions after jail time, go to another state, and easily obtain more animals, since shelters have no notice of their past abuse. Also, abusing animals can be linked to many other crimes, such as crimes involving violence, drugs, and property, domestic violence, sex offenses, or even murder. For example, they discussed how after an investigation, serial killer, Jeffrey Dahmer, was found guilty of abusing animals, which led up to his vicious acts against humans.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals or PETA for short is the largest animal rights organization in the world.
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was the first humane society to be established in North America and is, today, one of the largest in the world. The organization was founded on the belief that animals are entitled to kind and respectful treatment at the hands of humans and must be protected under the law. The ASPCA is a privately funded 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation, and has more than 2 million supporters across the country. It started in New York City and maintains a strong local presence, and now has programs that extend their anti-cruelty mission across the country.
ASPCA helps because animals are homeless and have no food. The way they help is by going out in the city and looking for animals (cats, dogs) that have no home. There basically doctors because like if they find a animal with no legs they give them a wheelchair type. One time I was looking at a story on TV and animal had ran away and the woman had
All around the world, people are abusing animals. Animal cruelty is a big deal because some people do not look at animals as being important; some people do not see a problem with hurting them. Animal cruelty can be define as being a malicious treatment that can cause undue pain or being mistreated. Seeing an animal get brutalize by some humans seems to be cruel. Getting kicked in the ribs, left for starvation and even used for entertainment seems to be heartless. Why abuse animals when they have not done anything to harm a human. If one must see what they are really doing to these animals, then animal cruelty would not be a big deal.
Increased awareness regarding animal cruelty would benefit society, pet owners, and animals themselves. When a problem is identified, it becomes easier to work out solutions. Animal cruelty is an issue on a global scale; animal torture and neglect does not only exist in the United States. Animal cruelty is the “crime of inflicting physical pain, suffering or death on an animal, usually a tame one, beyond necessity for normal discipline. It can include neglect that is so monstrous (withholding food and water) that the animal has suffered, died or been put in an imminent
(What does it mean. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the first humane society formed in North America and, today, one of the largest humane societies in the world, was founded by Henry Bergh and incorporated in 1866 by a special act of the New York State legislature. The mission of the ASPCA, as stated by Henry Bergh in 1866, is “to provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout the United States”)
Why would anyone abuse an animal? Animal abuse is rather common, you could be doing it even if you don’t think you are. There are many animals that deal with abuse or neglect, about 1,423 animals a year. That’s in the U.S. alone. Animals are living creatures, just like you, and they’re not cheap. Neglect is another version of abuse, and it can come in many forms. Neglect could be starving them, not giving them medical care, not paying attention to them, etc, etc. Animals are just like humans, I mean, sure they can’t make their own meals, and they can’t drive a car, but that doesn’t mean they have fewer rights than you do. If an animal is abused or neglected the animal will be taken and the owner should be charged. If someone abuses an
Two large reasons people abuse animals are A) The person experienced abuse or bullying themselves and B) They have it set in their mind because of maybe what they weren’t taught growing up to be mindful of animals. When a person is bullied and abused they tend to find some way to vent and some of them find this venting process in mistreating animals. The other reason, not being taught when growing up, is also common. When someone isn’t taught not to do something, it’s only natural that they don’t know not to do it; they don’t think what they are doing is wrong. So if we want to even slightly reduce animal abuse we need to stop bullying others so that they don’t, in turn, bully animals, and be sure to teach everyone starting at a young age that abusing an animal is cruel and
In america we talk about animal cruelty being wrong, but what are we really doing to stop it? Millions of animals all over the world are being abused and neglected for no reason. It can be as small as killing a mouse to beating your dog just because you’re just having a bad day. Nobody should have to go through this , especially an innocent animal that knows nothing. Even in america the rate of animals being abused is high. There is no excuse for someone to do this horrific crime , what are you really getting out of it? Animal Cruelty is a widespread issue across the world because people are neglecting animals, many may not realize what they are doing , and some believe it's actually okay to hurt them.
The ASPCA was founded in 1866 by a man named Henry Bergh. The organization was proposed after Bergh's speech in New York advocatng for animal protection and the cruelty to animals he's faced. After that speech he convinced politicians and commitees of the purpose of the organization. A charter was then passed incorporating ASPCA. An anti-cruelty law was also then passed where the ASPCA was allowed to enforce it.
Animal abuse is a huge problem to people who care about them. People in about every state
Animals are a big part of many people’s lives. They provide companionship; they provide daily assistance to those that have deficits and are having difficulty functioning in their daily life; they provide security and help keep a watchful eye on things, plus so much more. And yet, with all that animals do for us, there are those that are treated with such little regard, care, and cruelty. They are unable to speak for themselves and therefore, they need a voice to speak for them.
Each year, the most extreme cases of animal abuse receive media attention. Yet, the animal cruelty problem is more widespread than is reported in the media. Animal abuse and neglect is a nationwide issue, affecting thousands of animals nationwide. Cruelty to animals is defined as the infliction of physical pain, suffering or death on an animal, beyond what is necessary. There is a need to stop abusers from acting in such a horrific manner–preventing the neglect and suffering of the animals. What causes animal abusers to act in such a cruel way towards animals? How are cases of animal abuse being managed, and how should cases be handled? Finally, does the status of animals in society contribute to the rate of their abuse?
