The Animal Welfare Act's Failure To Protect Animals

Animals are smart,caring, adorable, loving, and sometimes they’re even heroes. For example, a woman name Kathie, a paraplegic, got saved by her Rottweiler from an exploding vehicle. When the dog saw her owner endangered near the fire she quickly took action and pulled on Kathie’s jeans and got her far enough from the flaming vehicle so that she wouldn’t get hurt. Even though not everyone’s pet is a “hero” it doesn’t mean that animals should be neglected, abused, abandoned, or starved. This is why there are laws prohibiting any person from inflicting, causing, or, permitting, unnecessary pain or suffering to be inflicted on any animal. The Prevention Of Cruelty To Animals Act makes it a crime to beat, kick, torture, mutilate, or cruelly kill an animal. Unfortunately, this still continues to be a major problem in the United States.

The statement by Paul McCartney rings true, “If slaughterhouses had glass walls everyone would be a vegetarian.” Animal rights is a concept which people hardly ever consider in a serious light. Being born as a human being, having a superior mental capacity and sense of times makes people think that they can rule this world and use other living beings as they see fit. This mentality leads to people say things like “animals are born to eaten” or how Aristotle claimed “all of the nature exist specifically for the sake of men” and “that animal are merely instruments for humankind.” (Pg. 495). This way of thinking often leads to overconsumption of animals, cruelty to animals and loss of species.

Every life has a choice. Every choice has a reason. Every reason has a purpose. All answers come into place. Why? Now that is the question people ask themselves on a daily basis when trying to find human cures or treatments. Why are the experiments having this sort of effect? Why have the experiment subject’s internal organs disintegrated? Nevertheless, people assume test subjects to be volunteering humans, the homeless, or desperate aliens who are willing to do anything to cross the border or country. In reality, animals [mainly cats, dogs, and mice] are the ones that endure experimentation for the future of mankind. Even though animal testing helped discover treatments for aggressive diseases and safely determined the outcome of mankind, it still sidesteps the fact that animals are their own being, it violates the Animal Welfare Act of 1970, the discovery of humane methods shows it to be beneficial, and the test results will soon become void for the benefit of mankind.

§2143(a) (b) and §2149(b), which are part of the Animal Welfare Act, were enacted so that standards of humane treatment can be given to animals used by research facilities, dealers, and exhibitors. The first Animal Welfare Act was signed on August 24, 1966 by Lyndon B. Johnson. This is the only law in the United States of America that oversees the treatment of animals in research. Although it is a passed law, it does not stop all cruel treatment of animals. People all around the United States are still disrespecting animals in ways they should not be. Recently, a video went viral of a man kicking a cat in public. The 22 year old man, Andre Robinson, went to trial and pleaded not guilty. People like this should be put in jail, not free to roam the streets, as for they might do it again. We should treat animals the way we want to be treated. Animals are like family, they deserve to live their lives free from suffering and exploitation.

Seventy percent of the human population in America are on at least one prescription drug. That means that thirty percent is either lucky enough to not need one or make the choice to not take them. Animals, on the other hand, have never and will never be given the choice, Tramadol or Hydrocodone, for the pain that humans inflict. Although animal testing contributes to life saving cures, innocent animals are tested and harmed inhumanely because organizations don’t follow Animal Welfare Act rules. Animals are not the same as humans, therefore the same result cannot be attained. There are other alternative testing methods that now exist and can replace the need for animals. It is humanity’s duty to provide a voice for these innocent animals.

Imagine this, an owner throwing a bag of dog food to one hundred fifty dogs that fight to get their needs. Some dogs coming out with their ears torn off and some with no food. Many dogs out in the country of the United States are being abused everyday. People don’t realize what harms their dogs and they don’t know how to treat them. Dogs are just like humans and they need to be treated the right way. Although people know that dog abuse exists, we never take the time to look into it to see how we can prevent it; There are many ways to help prevent dog abuse such as reporting it to your local animal shelter and making sure to take responsibilities for their needs.

The argument for the humane treatment of animals is one that has gained massive attention in the past decade. More and more people are becoming aware of how animals are mistreated in the meat industry and demanding there be change. However, companies are still afraid to make any changes, since they are wary if it will be beneficial to them or not. In “The Imminent Poultry Market of the Future”, I set out to prove to American supermarkets, such as King Soopers, that switching to ethically raised poultry would be beneficial to them since it would comply with consumer demands, promote a positive company image, and overall bring a greater profit. The purpose of this claim was to influence supermarkets to switch to ethically raised meats, therefore forcing major meat producers to change the ways in which they raise their livestock. In order to convince my audience of the benefits of ethically raised chickens, I made a series of different rhetorical choices that would help to prove my claim to American supermarkets.

Just think most of the meats that we eat comes from our everyday farm animals they suffer gruesome deaths so that we may be provided a source of food even though it’s the circle of life we must consider what if the world were backwards and the animals had the same question that we still ask until this day where does our food come from .why don’t we act on this the, the laws of animal cruelty should come in play when it comes to things like this, but we don’t think about that either because of how good it taste to us ,who wants to give up their chicken nuggets or there mac doubles, they don’t even kill them first they kill these animals without thinking without feeling i wonder do the people who do these jobs have any hearts, where’s the humanity

A great number of companies, whose products we use, test on animals. Numerous amount of healthy of animals such as: dogs, cats, rabbits and mice are being killed as a result of these products. Animal abuse is illegal yet companies are allowed to do experiments on these defenseless animals. The online article, “Animal Testing and the Law,” states that “ 92% of drugs tested failed to meet the standards for human use, and this rate is growing, not improving.” This means that the drug testing proved to be unsafe for humans; thus, animals too.
