In society the word “soldier” creates importance. The common usage of the word is an individual who fights or is a part of an army. In the United States a soldier displays utmost importance. The natural feeling one can get when encountering a soldier is pride, freedom, bravery and safety. When looking back to US history a soldier has proven essential to priceless building of American character. The struggles of injustice and fear have been and still continue to be defended with soldiers. The United States invests and trains thousands of soldiers. The Army, Navy, Air force, and Marines are just a few branches of the US military that characterizes the meaning of national pride. Although, the world encounters different perspectives with the term “soldiers”; they can be the opposite of an opposing countries ideology. The US loves their soldier, but countries that have lost to the US military see soldiers inducing fear, power and havoc. The Iraq and Iran wars are seen from the US to gain freedom from possible terror but innocent civilians of these countries see US soldiers as raiders, bringing fear and posing hostility (Dreazen). They fight for something and thus this is the drive to making a soldier.
A soldier is not all physically engaging. There are many people who run a race to fight for a true cause and they are coined as a “solider” too. For example, in the song “Onward, Christian Soldiers”, from the 19th century creates the idea of an evangelical soldier (Sullivan). There
This start with artifacts, which make up the base level of what a Soldier is. (CG TRADOC, 2010, p.10) These artifacts then feed into the beliefs and values of the organization. If artifacts and values to not line up there will be an undermining of the authority within the organization. The next piece in the defining what it means to be a professional Soldier falls into three cultural dimensions; the personal identity, the community, and the hierarchy. (CG TRADOC, 2010, p.10-11) These three domains of culture do not always fall directly in line and do change over time. It a leader’s job to shape the interaction between them. This shaping is most evident in times of change when the largest schism between the three dimensions is likely to
The early mornings when you are awakened by the sound of a bugle call, to gather for accountability and to salute the red, white, and blue American flag to start your military day, brings you a sense of fulfillment and a smile on your face. When you are in the United States military you are a part of an organization that becomes your family, because you live, breathe, fight, and die for your country. When you join the United States military you are broken down mentally and physically, so that they can build you up to protect and serve your country. In the United States military your weapon is the love of your life, because you eat, sleep, train, and kill with your M16 rifle, but who could
Red, white, and blue; the colors of freedom and hope. A symbol of bravery and honor for those who have dedicated their lives to this country. Billowing in the wind, promising our freedoms is the flag of the United States of America.
“War at its basic level has always been about soldiers. Nations rose and fell on the strength of their armies and the men who filled the ranks.” This is a very powerful quote, especially for the yet young country of the United States, for it gives credit where credit is truly due: to the men who carried out the orders from their superiors, gave their blood, sweat and tears, and in millions of cases their lives while fighting for ideals that they believed their country or government was founded upon, and to ensure the continuation of these ideals. Up until the end of the 20th Century, they did so in the worst of conditions, and this includes not only the battle scene, but also every day life. In
“We sleep safely at night because rough men stand ready to visit violence on those who would harm us” (Winston Churchill). The grand stake of this country 's freedom is from the soldiers who serve on our behalf as warriors in the United States military branches. The American men and women who sacrifice their lives are liable to our lives in the freedom that we all withhold as citizens and residents of this great country. It is anticipated by the stretch of war, benefits, and terrific reasoning of joining the military for claims on good reasoning, not only on the side of war but, on the side of reaching great and honorable methods of career and life
The Army as a Profession of Arms is a statement of truth and a concept to adopt. Soldiers generally characterize themselves by their specialty and not the ability to use lethal force. The classification of Soldiers own core purpose is what must shift within the Army culture. Army leaders must train and prepare Soldiers to successfully meet the challenges they will face as the Army pursues the campaign of Profession of Arms. The Army Values embody the core foundations of the skills needed for success; Soldiers at all levels must strive hard to live and model these values. Soldiers are shown pride in their organizations and the Army as a whole by the artifacts that are displayed on the walls and in cases at the units in which they serve.
The solider, only one of many shines true for the cause as brightly as the Statue of Liberty herself. He must be brave, to face the hard, toilsome trek ahead of him. He must be strong, and push himself to stay headstrong. He must be loyal, not only to the cause, but to God Himself to guide him through. He must be courageous, for at the worst of odds, he must put the cause before himself and fight with all of his power. Last, but not least, he must be persevering, because there are many stumbling points along the rough road to freedom, but the glory of liberty and the power of freedom must be upheld.
On my first day of summer pride, it was very rough and hard. Summer pride is a activity where you run and workout over the summer for the next football season. I was always tired after right after every practice and go home take a shower and then go straight to sleep. Although every practice was tiring it was worth it for are next football season. I liked summer pride, because are coaches were always having us lift weights, but what i did not like where we woke up at six in the middle of the summer. The running was also frustrating because it would be very hot and humid outside. The first freshman football game was against McArthur and was one of the best games of the season. We worked hard for are first game, and we won. The game ended up
As an American, you are granted special freedoms that many others do not have, but do you know why you are able to have those freedoms? Is it the politicians? No, it is the men and women in uniform fighting overseas. As the backbone of our military, the infantryman plays a valuable role in the success of our armed forces. Many people know of our nation’s heroes. Unfortunately, many do not know what they do, the strength they need to do it, or how they undertook the task of joining the United State’s infantry.
In Battle, similarly, Algerian natives were driven to a war and in the process, made great sacrifices. While in Cranes, Russia’s sense nationalism influenced protection of Russia, in Battle, the sense of nationalism drove Algerians to seek independence from the French, who they were a colony of at the time. Seeking independence from the French required the FLN, an Algerian national independence group, was an act of great sacrifice because they were relinquishing any security they had prior with the french by expressing their desire to become a recognized nation. Furthermore, since the French began to eradicate members of the group who were fighting for independence, displaying signs of nationalism in support of an independent Algeria was potentially deadly for all involved. Algerians were willing to sacrifice their security and possibly their lives in order to free themselves from the oppression caused by French colonizers, which displayed a forceful undertone of nationalism.Another example of sacrifice made for the sake of nationalism in Battle was when the Algerian population seeking independence cooperated with French rulings in order to reduce suspicions.
The phrase ‘de opresso liber’, the motto of the U.S. Army Special Forces, encompasses the goal of all who serve. A phrase simply meaning ‘to liberate the oppressed’. Those who serve have been known as heroes, patriots, and warriors. Those who serve both domestically and abroad. Serving on and off the clock. These people are called warrior poets. Warrior poets are those whose souls are ignited by a higher purpose, their minds sharpened by depth of thought, and their hands ready to do horrible violence in the defense of others, while being lovers of both truth and people, and defenders of them both.
In Joseph Heller’s novel Catch-22, it is clear that the American idealism on war is if you are a true American you will fight in the war and you may die, but that is fine because you will be viewed as a hero. It is absurd to think that is it okay to die fighting in a war. Of course, the soldiers who have fought and died in the wars are heroes, but it is time to examine the illogical perceptions that many Americans have about what makes you a hero. Most of it was what the parents in the era of WWII thought it was the right thing that all the young men should strive for and it showed how patriotic they were. “Like most American kids who had been old enough at the time of World War II, but too young to fight in it, I had a kind of yearning to see what the army would be like,
Since its inception, the United States has jumped at every opportunity to prove its military capabilities. We have readily celebrated every military victory since 1766 with great pride, we have been just as quick to forget every failure. As a society the U.S. holds soldiers in great regard, however monetary earnings do not reflect the respect paid to military members. Regardless of salary or outcome of the war, the U.S. and its citizens seem eager to jump feet first into every war. Action regardless of consequence begs the question, what is obsession? This question is raised in Andrew Bacevich’s book about militaristic addiction and in P.W. Singer’s book on profit of militarization. In this paper I will show how addiction to militarism and
Talking about war tends to make people feel emotional, feel a sort of adrenaline rush, mad, and even proud. These emotions can at times, in my opinion, bring groups together and separate others because of disagreements on views and beliefs. While it is not easy to talk to anyone about delicate topics such as this one, it is important to acknowledge how war can influence societal behavior and culture. Many can argue that war unites people, particularly speaking of the United States; a country is known for its patriotism and pride when it comes down to its military forces and achievements across nations.
Nationalism is a source of modernization and political legitimacy, especially in Latin American countries such as Nicaragua, Argentina, and Mexico. An inclusive national identity can serve as a means for the development of belonging, and this globally-acclaimed notion of diversity is attractive for nations struggling to find their footing in the international community. Looking towards the future, the key to achieving this inclusion is the use of culture, specifically employing music as a tool of integration. However, the decisive variable here is adolescents. Though these popular music forms may be the “music of the people,” they are ultimately dictated by the youth. In modern times, music is integral for youth as they delve into discourses of identity and equality, so focusing in on marginalized youth gives the government an opportunity to explore attitudes and national inclusion among individuals who are in a critical period of development. Even though teens are influenced by their parents' beliefs during childhood before advancing their own views, youth are ultimately the starting point for incorporating ostracized groups into nationalist discourses because they are the developers and executors of music movements. Furthermore, the attitudes of young people regarding inclusion and exclusion provide an indication for the sustainability of such diverse national identities in the future.
