I can’t understand how much more famous people need in their lives. In todays society, we glamourize the ethical scandals that are associated with famous people whether it’s through social media or magazines. This fuels the fire that runs the world because it is in our basic nature to break the rules sometimes and not have to worry about facing the consequences. This is true for Tiger Woods, but he must not have been thinking of the consequences before he took action. Tiger Woods was living the high life. He was at his all time best in golf from 1999 until about 2008. The massive amounts of money were pouring in from sponsors such as Nike. He even got a personal invitation from President Obama to visit the White house. Shortly after, Forbes named him the first athlete to earn $1 Billion dollars! He was the talk of the golf community for many years. He married a beautiful model that he met in 2001 at the British Open, and they have two kids together. You would think he was satisfied with his life right? This wasn’t the case though. On Nov. 26, 2009, Woods and his wife, Nordegren, then 29, were hosting his mother for Thanksgiving at their $2.4 million mansion in Windermere, Fla., near Orlando. The day before the newspaper The Enquirer posted an article on the front page that would change his life forever. The banner headline read “Tiger Woods Cheating Scandal.” Inside was a spread detailing Woods’ months-long affair with a New York City nightclub hostess named Rachel
Money, riches, power, and fame are not true happiness. In life I learned that true happiness cannot be bought with those things. True happiness is what truly makes you happy. I have learned these things from celebrities, also from viewing people that I know. By viewing the lives of these people you can tell that they are not happy with their lives. Because they are not happy they feel a great load of depression in their lives, which can sometimes lead to suicide.
There is no doubt in my mind that at the moment, Tiger Woods is the most dominant player ever, but I believe that he needs
According the author, because of Tiger's one mistake, he lost everything from his endorsements, family, friends and fans. He had spent more than decade perfecting his reputation and just like that it was gone (Ferguson). Tiger Woods's mistakes stand as a reminder that no matter how much temptation there is, one should always think twice before doing something they may regret later on.
Everyone in life makes mistake, it’s part of life and we learn off them. Yes professional get away with crime and its wrong, I believe that whoever you are, rich, poor, famous, a professional athlete or just a normal person, if you commit a crime or break the law you need to face the consequences for your actions. We have laws
In thirteen years of golf, Tiger Woods has made over a billion dollars making him the highest paid athlete ever. He has been the highest paid athlete now for five years in a row. We all know that many people in the world watch him play every weekend and admire him, but is the amount of entertainment he provides really worth 128 million dollars a year? Tiger is only one of many professional athletes who are extremely overpaid. “People forget that sports is entertainment,” says Leonard Armato, a sports agent. Although professional athletes provide entertainment for millions of viewers around the world, they are overpaid because the millions of dollars that they make could be distributed more evenly throughout society and go to things of a
Much of today’s society seems obsessed on what actors/actress, athletes, and music artist are wearing, eating, who they are marrying, dating, where they are vacationing, what affairs they are having or have had, and how they live their everyday lives. What’s so interesting about this obsession is as a society we build them up only to tear them down. Media outlets are swift to report when celebrities are in trouble; accomplishments are hardly reported unless they have passed away or an awards show is being telecast. It’s as if we want them to be perfect but once they are associated with a scandal we begin to destroy their reputation, character, only to overlook their accomplishment, if any. Should society hold them to higher standards just
In order to be a commendable role model, you must have the courage to perform what is virtuous. Although it may be difficult in front of all the lights and cameras, celebrities fail to have this trait and consequently cannot be seen as exemplars. Under any circumstance a role model must put the right foot forward and direct its followers to a better way of life. Famous people are consistently infected with what is known as the “stardom disease”. Despite a strong promise to stay moral, celebrities always find themselves spiraling into some form of turmoil. The cause of their downfalls is that they do not have the fortitude to remain on the righteous path and avoid doing what is wrong. Britney Spears did not have the bravery to reject the idea of getting drunk and marrying off to a man she did not truly love. As a result, her actions reflect her weakness and
How often does an athlete come along that changes everything about a sport? Tiger Woods, as he is known by most, popularized the game of golf and was able to reach many youth and grow the game that may have been on the verge of dying. Woods was able to energize what many had known as a boring game and instill excitement and drive that was never seen on a golf course before. Woods hit the golf ball unbelievable distances and dominated the sport in a way that seemed unfair. Tournaments were being won by margins unlike any in history and many golf course designers were required to add something called “Tiger proofing” in an attempt to make the playing field more balanced and even. Eldrick “Tiger” Woods, at an astonishing 19 years old, burst on to the scene at Professional Golf Association events and would change golf forever though exciting and energy filled play, absurd tournament performances, and a presence among all sports unlike anything ever seen before. Tiger Woods began training to become the master golfer he was at a very young age and would experience high levels of success throughout his youth, once turning professional, marketing companies were able to take advantage of the unique opportunity Woods presented, and during his professional years Woods was statistically unlike anything ever seen before. In this paper I will discuss (1) how the different forms of communication propelled young Tiger Woods into the face of golf at an early age, (2) how marketing and
They not only have the world class skills but the professional attitude on and off the course. “Spieth’s babyfaced, down-to-earth demeanor and clean cut image,” (Harwell, pg. 3) is what grabs the attention of young aspiring golfers and their parents. An overall good role model, a somewhat better Tiger Woods. Bubba Watson, a two time Masters winner, told Meg Mirshak,” A young guy like that obviously grows the game and gets more people involved. That’s going to get more young kids wanting to come out here. Then later on, they want to compete in the big tournament like Jordan’s doing.” Jordan’s dismissal of fear and high confidence in his skills versus the world’s best is phenomenal motivation for the young juniors, and it shows. 13 year old, Thomas Christensen, stated, “ It just makes me want to try harder and go to the golf course more.” As Under Armour founder, Kevin Plank, put it, “He is like an apple pie with a golf
My final question is- Why? Why in the world would he do it? The guy is a self-made multiBILLIONAIRE. He doesn't need the money; he doesn't need the fame. In fact, his life is about to get much worse and more difficult.
The most flamboyant and impressive golfer in action today is Walter Hagen. This golfer from Rochester, NY.This man even has a nickname that is almost as symbolic as his golfing career, which is Sir Walter.Walter is bringing about an age of entertainment we have never seen before. He is redefining the way golf is thought about.Walter is throwing big parties aat the fanciest hotels around,he is even using limousines to drive to the tournament. He is even qouted saying”I never wanted to be a millionaire, I just wanted to live like one.”("Why Walter Hagen Was One of the Biggest Golf Stars of His Generation."About.com Sports. After turning professional in 1961 Nicklaus competed on the tour for forty years, during that time his tour earnings were north of five million (PGA Tour.com). Over his illustrious career he brought in good money to support not only his family, but also some charities. Nicklaus won a record setting, eighteen majors and came in second place nineteen times. As well as a shocking, seventy-three wins on the tour, (Nicklaus.com). Nicklaus’ prolific time on the tour, as he broke the record for most majors, the most coveted trophy in golf.
Golfers are thought of as spoiled individuals who are treated like kings and queens. In an interview about golfers, a junior golfer Tyler Long asked Gary Long, a long time golfer, whether or not he believed golfers were spoiled and treated like royalty. Gary Long stated “ Most golfers are not spoiled and do not have everything given to them, with the exception of professional golfers of course, but us weekend golfers have worked hard most of our lives and simply want to be involved in social athletics such as golf, to socialize with friends and keep active as we age,so in conclusion I purely disagree with the thought that golfers are spoiled as many are factory workers, who have very little money to spend on extracurricular activities but choose
Not only has the media created celebrity heroes they have made then seem untouchable. For example, Ray Lewis superstar linebacker of the champion ship team Baltimore Ravens. Lewis portrayed as a staunch, Christian, and an example for other to follow. This stands in contrast to the same person who was charged with homicide in 2000 after a club brawl in Atlanta left two men dead (Bisciotti,S 2013). The charges against Lewis were ultimately reduces as part of a plea deal. Families of the victims received over one million dollars in compensation from Lewis. Lewis has been a role model since this incident. It goes to prove that although everyone can change their lives, the label of hero, is too readily dished out to athletes and sports figures.
Simply by being famous your life becomes restricted, you cannot behave like “normal people” because you are always being looked at or judged or written about. For tiger this was the case ever since he could remember because at the age of two he was on TV because of his unique golfing talents. Being in his position means a normal personal family problem turns into media fodder.
