I believe that, there were both positive and negative benefits and consequences when the Europeans explored the new world. One consequence was slavery. They traded slaves, beat them , and they worked them to death. Two benefits were food exchange and that they brought Christianity. For food exchange , they had wealthy people,Europeans gave them food, and they had farms. For Christianity, people became Christians, they learned about Christianity, and they taught Christianity. Also, I think the benefits did not outweigh the consequences, I will explain why. To start off, Europeans came to increase power, resources, claim land, and to reach China/India for spices. They had two religious reasons. 1 Protestant reformation, 1 economic. 2 religious
One of the main reasons Europeans sought to explore the world was to spread Christianity. As far as they knew, the New World had never heard of Christianity, and the Spanish Cardinal Trinlini said that this made them “heathens [who] live a barbarous life”. His motivation for exploring these new lands was to save the natives from their ignorance
The Europeans unquestionably benefited from colonization through their establishment of new economies, the spread of their religious beliefs, and through the emergence of a “new avenue for trade and population movement,” according to Adam Smith. The major European groups that settled in the Americas were the Spanish, the French
Although Columbus's revelation of the New World to the Old World caused deadly diseases to both hemispheres, a loss of preservation of native American culture in the New World, and the unhealthy effect of tobacco in the Old World, it made an overall positive impact in lasting terms by the introduction of religion and horses and cattle in the New World and the new agriculture advancements and alpacas. The Eastern-Western hemisphere encounter was obviously positive in the Western hemisphere because of the fact that most of us here would have never been born, but the introduction of religions made a lasting impact. Most Europeans were religious and wanted to share their faith with the natives. Some people also came to escape religious
While we can’t deny the fact that the Columbian Exchange had a lasting impact on the New World, many of its effects were negative rather than positive. The introduction of European diseases devastated the Native American population, along with the terrible conditions they were forced to live in. Additionally, the Europeans did not treat the Native tribes as people, but rather as savages who could be used for labor.
The New world gave the Old world many riches and foods. This allowed the European Culture to expand into more of an agricultural country, allowing the population to rise. Although the New world did receive an abundance of plaques and illnesses from the Old, it also gave the Old world syphilis. Giving the Europeans their first lethal sexually transmitted illness. Both the Native Americans and the Europeans had suffered from illness and disease. With the ships the Europeans had brought over the ocean they had along with them animals including horses, cows and pigs. This allowed the Natives to travel more on horseback and instead of hunting they could raise
Despite the fact that many believe that imperialism only had negative effects, there were several positive aspects of the European takeover. One of the main pros is the introduction of trade. This helped them obtain desired goods, and in some cases necessities that couldn't be accessed. Some of the other positives from the colonization are improved education and a new religious and administrative system.
European exploration of the New World led to many social effects. To start with, the Europeans brought with them many germs and diseases that decimated many societies in the Americas. The diseases, such as the smallpox, led to the deaths of many indigenous people and the demographic collapse of many Native American societies. The Europeans also brought plants and animals over to the Americas. The plants that were grown reflected a distinct European diet and the horses in the North American West were used frequently for hunting as farmers began to abandon their fields. Women were no longer viewed as responsible for producing food as hunting became more popular with men. Another social effect was how marriages between Spanish men and elite native women were greatly supported in Amerindian societies. Native women who were married to Spanish men lived a better life than ordinary native women. On the other hand, indigenous women who were below the elite were frequently mistreated and abused by European men. Since there were very few Spanish women, Spanish men and Indian women came together to produce mixed-race children known as Mestizo. Many Indian women agreed to have children with Spanish men to ensure that they and their children would not have to be subjected to abuse. As the Spanish took control over the Aztec and Inca empires, a social order based on race came into existence. The Spanish male settlers were placed at the top, followed by the mixed-race population, and at
European Exploration is negative due to the effects that individual explorers and triangular trade still has on my life. Racism and the endangerment of native people are prime examples of the negative consequences of European Exploration.
European exploration had both positive and negative effects. The Old World and the New World both obtained new resources from each other like domestic animals and crops. Negatively, Native Americans became enslaved and disease killed most of them. The Old World and the New World were both greatly affected by this in positive and negative ways. The positive effect of European exploration was that each world got new resources, but the negative effect was that Native Americans became enslaved and most died from diseases.
This is because they wanted to find more and more people that could convert to their religion. But the Europeans also wanted to find a place with religious tolerance and there wouldn’t have been any better way than to just start off fresh and conquer or even colonize new land. Many religious conflicts were happening in Europe; such as the religious crusade that took place, which caused those who denied Catholic faith to be thrown out and told to find a new land to occupy. In turn, to get out of that ill-treatment Europeans would travel overseas to find a place where religion wasn’t as big of an issue. Since, all these events were taking place the main reason, in respect to religion, for the Europeans to travel to the New World was to either enhance religion or just run away from the problems that it caused back
The diseases brought by Europeans to the Americas lead to an estimated 90% decrease in native populations and those who were left were treated as inferior beings, and made to do hard labor for the Europeans. Although missionaries did create religious synthesis in some areas of the Americas many Native Americans were forced to give up their religious traditions and become Christians because of the Europeans. The new exploration also led to an intense increase in the slave trade. The establishment of the Atlantic slave trade by Europeans in order to provide labor in the new world was definitely a step backwards for human civilizations. Millions of slaves were transported from Africa to the Americas, and nearly 40% died before they even reached the New World. When the slaves arrived in America they were treated like animals, sold and made to do back breaking work in horrible working
The Age of Exploration was a very important period in time. Many significant changes occurred, some of which were good and others which were bad. There were many causes for the Age of Exploration and many resulting effects for it that impacted the colonization of the New World along with many other things. The main causes for the Age of Exploration were God, Glory, and Gold. Some of the negative effects of it were disease, slavery, and harsh treatment to the Native Americans. Some of the positive effects were global trade, Columbus’ voyages, and new inventions. The Age of Exploration greatly influenced the world and life as we know it today.
European expansion into the New World brought a lot of changes, motivated by boosting trade and economy, some countries failed to see the harm done in accomplishing it. It was the colliding of two worlds that were not ready to meet that suddenly and abruptly. Without the brave explorers and colonists however, America may have not been discovered, or noticed for many years. The New World gave the Old World something and vice versa it is obvious today one needs the other to survive and that is what we all strive
The arrival of Europeans to the New World brought about many changes to Native American life, and their world would never be the same. One major impact the explorers had was introducing the natives to plants, animals, and inventions they had never imagined before. A negative effect of European exploration was the fact that it caused the death and oppression of millions of Native Americans. Europeans both positively and negatively impacted Native American culture and lifestyles.
Whenever you hear about the European Exploration, or ‘The Age of Discovery’’ you hear a lot about what the Europeans gained from it, while they did learn a lot from this and gather a lot of new resources they were not the only ones affected. The Age of Discovery affected more areas that just Europe, it also affected the Americas and Africa. To prove this we must first know what European Exploration is.
