The following essay will compare and evaluate the effectiveness of a redesigned volleyball training program to evaluate how specific it is in regards to the players fitness requirements. The redesigned training program was specifically based on the players fitness test results, and what is required to be improved to achieve optimal performance for their playing position. The provided volleyball-training program was very limited; there was no specificity of the players position, or what season it is throughout. Because of this, there were few strengths and weaknesses to base the relevance of the program on. Firstly, however, an essential positive aspect within the training program is that it included Strength Training. While it was unclear what season the original program was throughout, strength training is an important aspect during every season of training, to induce progression to prevent athlete from falling into reversibility. We start with the stretches. The seniors move to the middle in order for the younger volleyball prospects to see the exercises clearly. To teach them about Union’s school spirit early on, we chant U-N-I-O-N twice for every exercise. Then we lace up and hit the track. Today was a great opportunity to shadow and be further educated on performance training. Today at my internship, I observed sport performance coaching as well as was educated on the principles of performance coaching. Before prepping for the College Prep class, all the interns met with the supervisor of Athletes Arbor to go over what do performance coaches do and why they do what they do. From this meeting, I learned that performance coaches are movement coaches. They focus on making their athletes faster, stronger, and more explosive opposed to a strength and conditioning coach who focuses more on building an athlete's strength as well as conditioning their athletes to get in shape for their season.
