Although, the market that offers goods and services is over-saturated at the moment, there is always the opportunity of a business, speculating the opportune moment when to enter the market, by zoning, by location or by the category of consumers to whom the offer of services is addressed. Personally, I believe that the biggest scarcity what I meet at this moment is the time, being very busy, sometimes I have the impression that it needs 48 hours to have a full day, but if I were to think of a business opportunity, the first example comes from my neighborhood. At this time on my street can count about six to ten houses inhabited by senior citizens, all retirees and the vast majority of them living alone. In a conversation with one of …show more content…
On Sundays at the church, I met a lot of these people along with their life stories, "forgotten" by closest ones and most of them with limited travel possibilities. By making a short calculation, 30% of them could be secure clients and another 20% potential customers. Obviously, their older age makes the number of customers "diminishing" over time, but at the same time they are being replaced by the following "customers" who are coming out. I honestly say that it is not the kind of business that I want to start, not very profitable in the short term, but I would have liked it because I wish so much to help my fellows in the community, to do something good for them , with a minimum profit to justify my opportunity costs. After a few years of activity, the expenses for the purchased car will be amortized, having the opportunity to hire the first worker to handle this activity, leaving me with satisfaction and at the same time the ambition to prove that we can do something for our needy, without a fantastic effort but with some enormous benefits. There is the possibility that because of the lack of customers, the business does not work, the exit from the market can be done without losses or not very high, at the same time it can be applied and vice versa. There is a possibility that the business grows, with the possibility of buying the second car, expanding the circular flow
Service-Disabled Veterans have earned the right to receive certain preferences for government contracting because they volunteered to serve their country. Congress established programs to benefit Service-Disabled Veterans, choose three programs and describe these programs. Explain how these programs benefit a small business over a large business.
I have identified the aging population (greater than 55 years of age) in Chatham/Kent, Ontario (in a community I am familiar and work within); a population on the rise and with minimal government and Ministry of Health support that enables seniors to maintain quality of life,
A vast majority of the population that is nearing retirement age tend to experience a feeling of "unfinished business" and begin planning their golden years around accomplishing them. As retirees, many may start a new hobby they've always wanted to do, write a book, traveling or even going back to school in some cases. So one method a retiree can maximise the time available to accomplish all of those things is to enter a senior housing facility, and be free from the burden of caring for a home.
Things such as food, energy bill, gasoline, mortgage and rent consume a large amount of seniors
Research show that in 2013, over 9.5% of seniors over the age of sixty-five lived in poverty with the percentage increasing as an individual’s age increases (McNeal, 2016). These statistics does not account for the other issues which affects families and caretakers when addressing the well-being of their loved ones and the inadequate access to long term care.
Homes often require improvements to allow a senior to be more mobile, safe and functional and help to ensure that seniors and persons with disabilities can live healthy, independent lives in the comfort of their home or family’s home (Government of Canada, 2015, para. 3). Making improvements to a house can be costly. High costs of renovations are just one barrier that prevent people from aging in their own homes, other factors include a lack of supports regarding home and yard maintenance, food preparation, dressing and bath assistance, living in a rural setting outside of the boundary for homecare, poor quality or lack of service, and lack of skilled
Relatively new to this research are the correlations found between living environments and improved health and well-being for the people who live there. Employment and business opportunities also arise to support and maintain services for this vastly growing cohort. Ideas are being put forth now to create urban communities for senior living that will embrace continued learning and service opportunities. Aging-In-Place models, where seniors remain at home and in the community in which they have always lived is argued in research entitled, Innovative Models of Aging in Place: Transforming our Communities for an Aging Population (Bookman). Membership in a community can build relationships and identify common interests and purpose, as well as integrated settings to help promote meaning in the “golden years”. Bookman states that this is a global phenomenon and that in 1950 only 8% of the world population was over 60. Less than 70 years later that has changed dramatically, with the largest increase occurring in the most developed nations. The many benefits are people who are not only living longer, but leading active and healthy lives into ones 80’s and 90’s. The wisdom, experience and skills of this older population are available to family, friends and the communities for many decades. On the other hand, there are also
A variety of long-term care options are available to those who require more assistance. Assisted-living facilities, village concepts, and Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs) are all available options for seniors. Living in these residencies may address several other issues such as isolation, transportation, and mobility. These types of facilities focus on providing assistance with daily living activities for the elderly while still allowing them to be independent. Residents also have ample opportunities to socialize in common spaces such as dining rooms and living rooms. However, these facilities are often expensive and must be paid for privately. As a result, the option for living in these helping facilities may be out of reach for the elderly with a fixed income (Hash, Jurkowski, & Krout, 2015). Without these residential facilities as an option, aging adults with lower incomes who must remain in their homes may face challenges related to their health, mobility, and
National samples of elders living in a community, age sixty and older were surveyed. Each individual was surveyed by a stratified-random-digit-dialing in the area. Those that had the most recent
In 2015, the U. S. Census Bureau projected an increase in the number of elderly people to be 14.7% and to exceed 20% by 2030. With a projected U.S. population of 351 million by 2030, the number of persons aged 65 years and over is estimated to rise to over 70 million people, which is more than twice the amount in 2000 (Spitzer, Newman & Holden, 2004). As the nation experiences unprecedented growth in the older adult population, the provision of long-term care services and housing for older adults has emerged as an increasingly urgent public policy issue. One of the central views of the assisted living community is that as changes occur in the health status of older adults, residents choose supportive services that allow them to remain in their homes and thereby "age in
Between 1900 and 1990, the share of adults ages 65 and older living alone increased nearly fivefold, from 6% to 29%. This growth was spurred by a host of factors, including improved health and longevity among older Americans and the economic security that came with social safety net programs such as Social Security and Medicare (Stepler, 2016).
The senior population continues to grow much faster than it has in any generation in the history of the United States. According to the U.S. Bureau of the Census (2008), the anticipated growth of the population 60 and over in the U.S. is expected to grow from just under 55 million in the 2010 census to 72 million in the 2020 census. This represents a 13% increase in the aging population in just a 10-year period. To add to this, we are currently experiencing what the National Institute on Aging (2015) characterizes as a dramatic increase in life expectancy. This means that there are more seniors than ever – and more older seniors than
The ranks of American citizen that are 65 and older are expanding by the thousands daily. With more than 10,000 baby boomers turning 65 daily, the demographics are enhancing the senior housing market segment (Fabris, 2013). Approximately 3 million baby boomers will reach retirement age every year for the next 20 years, are leading the country through a sweeping societal change, impacting policies and health, housing and caregivers’ services and shape the health care system for decades to come (Mather, 2016). Though the majority of the elderly population would prefer to continue to live in their own homes, 5-8% of them will ultimately opt for seniors-only multifamily and assisted living housing (Mather, 2016). Moreover, the aging population requiring nursing home care, and the demand for elderly care will be powered by a precipitous rise in the number of American living with Alzheimer’s disease, which could rise to from 5 million in
Based on my completed skills assessment and other textbook worksheets, a field that might be a good fit for me is being an entrepreneur of a small business for clothing. Looking at the results of all the assessments I can think like an entrepreneur and I have the drive, passion, creativity, control, and ability to take on and face challenges of running a small clothing store. It will definitely be difficult, but it is a dream I have had for so long to own my own business and I know I would love it and never get bored. I can live my lifestyle, put in the hard work, and do something that interests me and makes me want to work every day. I may not have a lot of experience yet or all the knowledge to run a successful company, but I have a great
You would think that once you have finished school and started your career you would be done with trying to improve your way of working, but what happen when you no longer wish to work where you are working but are unable to find a new place to work? You would start to think about how you should open your own business so that you could be your own boss. People who are unhappy in their place of work are not the only ones who want to start their own business. There are many people in our country alone who want to start their own business, I consider it to be one of the “American Dreams”. Owning a business might look like it could be easy, but many people do not really know all that comes with owning a business. I feel that people often jump into things such as starting their own business without knowing what they are getting themselves into.
