NY rap artists should embrace that other regions and coasts are soincally influences on rap. Just make good music, and blend genres and sonics. While NY Rappers are to busy trying to revive the NY Sound other regions and coasts are bending genres like rock and rap. NY rappers have to let go of the past and embrace everyone and not be scared to try new things. The internet has changed the game, and you can hear any type of music. Radio is played out and dead. NY rappers need to understand that Atlanta and Los Angles is running rap, and create because at the end of the day the PEOPLE decide what is hot and what is
1. Keyes points out that rap music derives from what she refers to as the “West African bardic tradition.” What is this tradition? What is the role of the griot in this tradition? What parallels do you see between the groit and a hip hop MC (the rapper, often the main writer of lyrics for a group)?
After the wars in Korea and Japan’s assimilation into the Korean government, they created a treaty between the two. This treaty was known as The Japan Korea Treaty of 1910, also known as the Japan Korea Annexation Treaty. This formally annexed Korea forcing them to be a formal colony of Japan. This lead to Many Japanese settlers were interested in acquiring agricultural land in Korea begin move migrate there. The Governor-General at time helped these settlements through land, which initially was accepted by most of the Korean population. The Korean land ownership system was a system of a form of an absolute power landlord. The level of that these peasants were just as was similar to that of farmers in Japan. However, in Korea, the landowners
1. Using documents from the Reconstruction Chapter of RAP, discuss some of the ways in which African-Americans were segregated in the South after 1883. What was (where) the major goal(s) of segregation in the South, based upon your analysis of the text?
The persona of the typical MC is an act. Ice-T, one of the great American rappers said, “The MC possesses the great gift of communication. He has the ability to capture everybody’s attention with incredible displays of verbal acrobatics and the power to command a crowd” (“Something from Nothing: The Art of Rap”). An important character of art, different cultures and people are reflected in different styles. “It didn’t start out as a popular culture movement, it didn’t even have pop culture ambitions. It’s a folk art. It’s folk music, It’s a tribal experience.” Hip-hop started in New York, like in the Mississippi Delta and the blues, its just like that or New Orleans and jazz, that physical environment just informs the way that people apply the sound and whatever. But as it started to migrate, the sound started to change according to the places that it was traveling to. Geography shapes how these mediums sound because the people and the places are different (Lena 494).
To begin, McBride elaborates on the birth of “modern” hip hop in the Bronx. He claims that because “New York City was nearly broke” (McBride 790), arts funding was slashed and children could not “squeal on [their clarinets] and drive [their] parents nuts”. Naturally, McBride figured that teenagers like Afrika Bambaataa and others took to hip hop music and disc jockeying as a different, ingenious way to get under parents’ skin. To some extent, this may be true; however, another possible source of the music could have been to escape the daily struggles of living within the city. It is known that in the 1970s “arson fires, rampant crime and poverty pushed [Bronx] residents out in droves” (NY Times 1). Including this factoid would have tied together
As rap music spread throughout the urban community of New York, many people began to use it as a form of expression that offered unlimited boundaries. There were no set rules, except to be original and to rhyme to the beat of the music. One could rap about the issues pertaining to his or her life or something as simple as a day at school.
Rap is a genre in music that consists of rhyming or being poetic over a certain unique beat. The origin of rap is significantly different from any other form of music. The flow, change, subject of the music, and the instrumentals behind the rapping has all changed with time. Most people would underestimate the complexity of the music and the evolution it has undergone. The real roots of rap music began in the late 1980’s with the “Golden Age.” It was innovative and mostly based around the party scene. Gangsta Rap followed the Golden age and was very impactful on the young culture. After the Gangsta Rap era came the time in rap referred to as Crunk Rap which combined the country sound with the party lifestyle. Conscious
How did hip hop come to be? In the early 1970 hip hop music came to be in South Bronx in New York along with breakdancing, disc jockeying, graffiti, along with hip hop music. There were three major events that started this hip hop culture. The first occurrence was an expressway that was built through Bronx which gave jobs to the middle class and the crime rate went up. The second occurrence is when major builder came to Bronx to build safe neighborhoods for the middle class, which causes vacant buildings around the town. The last occurrence was when gangs started in the area and eventually ended up on every street corner in south Bronx. Along the way there has been a fine line on wear the industry has changed and from wear it
As American-British novelist Mark Lawrence once said, “We’re built of contradictions, all of us. It’s those opposing forces that give us strength, like an arch, each block pressing the next”. The aforementioned contradictions are what lead to conflicts, and in turn growth and acceptance. Nathaniel Hawthorne, in his revolutionary classic The Scarlet Letter, delves into the conflicts that the brave, yet infamous Hester Prynne has to overcome. As Hawthorne unfolds the unfortunate tragedy of Hester and her mysterious lover, the battles Hester has to face are multiple external and internal stimuli that bring about the growth of Hester as a character. The onerous obstacles that Hester must face through her life wear her out mentally, but only then can she truly grow and accept who she is.
The origins of hip hop started in the late 70’s as a pastime that brought all the impoverished people of the projects together to have fun through. But decades later in the 90’s, people began to rap about many subjects ranging from the crack epidemic, hard life in the ghetto, or just having fun, but the underlying motive of rappers in this era was to reflect on their rough lifestyle through clever lyrics. The motive wasn’t for money, but recognition for their unique wordplay among the rap community. However, that all changed when record companies saw a financial opportunity in rappers, and rappers saw a financial opportunity through music. Due to the commercialization of hip hop, authenticity is rare to find in the mainstream
Music and society have always been closely related. For years now music has been apart of people’s everyday lives all around the world. Having so many different genres out there, it makes it easy to be appealing to so many different ethnic backgrounds. However, one type of genre in particular has seemed to grab the attention of a younger generation. Rap music has undoubtedly had its utmost impact on African American youth, since many of the performers themselves are African American. An overtly masculine culture dominates rap music and creates gender stereotypes that become abundantly popular to the youthful audience. Three constant themes that are found within the rap culture are encouragement of violence, the misogynistic representation of women, an extreme hatred of homophobia. Each theme plays a detrimental role in the process of defining black masculinity as well as shaping the values, morals, and beliefs that its younger audience adopts after tuning into this “gangster lifestyle”.
People in society tend to feel that rap music has a certain effect on the mind of its audience. Rap music has always been judged based upon its lyrical content because it often includes explicit lyrics that consist of vengeful and violent crimes. Associating violent acts that people commit every day to what they are hearing over the radio is complete nonsense. The reasons that rap music is not responsible for violence in our society is because violence has always been a part of our society, you have to consider the person who listens to rap music's upbringing, and you have to consider the video games and tv shows that are being portrayed and played by the public.
1a. The Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh was a piece I was already familiar with, so I searched it on www.google.com. I used a high definition picture of it on Google images to further examine the painting.

Throughout history, music has been used to express the feelings of people or groups whom may have no other outlet to express themselves. The best example of this occurrence would be the lower class of America’s use of rap music. Rap music started out as a fun variation of disco with the purpose to make people dance and enjoy themselves, but it later transformed into one of the best outlets to express the struggles of poverty in the United States. The genre gained popularity when the song “Rapper 's Delight” hit the charts in the early eighties; rap evolved into a plethora of different styles from there, Gangster Rap formed with NWA in the late eighties, and rap really hit it’s zenith in the mid nineties. Modern rap began in the early starts of the twentieth century. Because of the storytelling that rappers do in the music, it gained notice in the inner city where the demographic could relate. Many young teen in the inner city environment built dream to be famous rappers just like their own favorite artists . Rap connects to me by its style, its purpose, and its political incorrectness.
