Overall, I believe “Loving” was a fantastic movie. I enjoyed watching it, and it was fascinating throughout. I was very interested to learn the story behind Richard and Mildred Loving and the pivotal struggle they had to face in their lives.

How many 40-year-old unemployed slackers do you know? Now imagine 2 of them under the same roof obnoxiously fighting about childish things. Step Brothers from start to finish is exactly this displaying 2 outrageously comical actors in Will Ferrell and John C Reilly bickering back and forth trying to learn how to cope with one another. The glory of this film comes from the constant one liners that make no sense but fit the film perfectly, the childish behavior, and the elementary school comebacks mixed in with the adult language which adds a different but great comical sense that few movies have been able to portray before. Such as when Ferrell refers to Reilly as a “Big, fat, curly-headed f***”. This line had me rolling on the floor due to the seriousness of Ferrell and the reaction of Reilly and the fact that it is a simple 3rd grade insult with an F-bomb thrown in there that just makes it all that more funny. Although Talladega Nights and the Anchorman trilogy had better storylines none compare to the pure comedy that Step Brothers provides. Step Brothers is Will Ferrell’s most entertaining movie made to date, and is one that can be watched over and over without losing its humor.

To my understanding, the movie Home for the Holidays not only reveals a lot of potential family conflicts, but also reflects a lot of different communication approaches of the various family members. As a foreigner, I have never experienced Thanksgiving homecoming dinner before, so I may cannot understand some of the holiday customs in the movie, but I found out that their family interactions are interesting indeed.

The movie, The DUFF, is a typical high school movie that revolves around a senior girl named Bianca who at the beginning of the movie is completely contented with who she really was. She had two very attractive and popular best friends who were Jess and Casey. The story all began when Madison, aka the mean popular girl who seeks for attention at school invited them to a night party at her house. Well at first, Bianca doesn’t want to come. As she heard that her crush Toby will be there; she was forced to come. During the party, Wesley, who is her childhood friend whom she doesn’t like that much come to talk to her. It was a normal conversation until he suddenly called her the “Duff” which is the abbreviated term for Designated Ugly Fat Friend. After that incident, Bianca’s life was not the same as it was before. She tried to sought for a change and asked Wes’ help for her to transform from a Duff into somebody that actually fit in among the crowd. After going through lots of changes, she was then able to realize things that she never thought of before. At the end, she was able to understand that being a Duff is not actually a bad thing because in reality, we are always going to be somebody’s duff. In It’s a Wonderful Life, the main character, George Bailey, is a good, giving man who faces a rough patch in his life. I think that this story teaches us a great lesson on being thankful. I liked the part when, at the end, Clarence finishes his job and earns his wings. The part I didn’t like was when George said that he wishes that he was never born. The lesson that It’s a Wonderful Life teaches us about thankfulness is that you need to appreciate how blessed you really are and not to take it for granted. Learning about these disorders can help us to understand others and ourselves better by telling us why we do and think the things we do. One effective way that we can observe and learn about psychological disorders is through movies. “Mommie Dearest” was directed by Frank Perry. It is centered around the actress Joan Crawford, who suffered from various psychological disorders. Joan’s daughter, Christina, wrote a book about her mother and her many problems and it was later turned into a movie. It is very effective to use movie analysis as a way of learning, especially in psychology, because it provides a great way to observe without distractions. When you’re looking at disorders, it’s difficult to find a person who has many of these disorders and will allow you to observe them. Psychological disorders can be split into two major groups, personality disorders and mood disorders. Personality disorders are patterns of traits that can get in the way of your social or work life and may interrupt the individual’s normal lifestyle. Mood disorders are inconsistent and unreliable changes in mood by the affected individual. (Rathus, 1998).
