The Bible; the only book that has managed to exist, at least in part, for three millennia, and cause controversy every single step of the way. At one point number six on the American Library Association’s most challenged books list in America (Top Ten Most Challenged Books List, Ala.org), it has changed hearts and minds and left a trail of chaos in its wake. However, I do believe I should have been allowed to read this Book of books, because of its great literary value, it's incredible insights on God, humanity, and society, and its powerful instruction. While many have came up against it, none have defeated it; thus, it is one of the most influential pieces of literature that has ever come into existence. The Bible is one of the most powerfully moving pieces of literature ever in existence. It has great literary value, because it has changed and influenced our culture immensely. It has changed our society by changing and influencing our government, our society, and even our very language. Our government was created by mainly Christian men; they followed the words contained in the Bible. Benjamin Franklin said, “...the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth -- that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without his notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without his aid?” (Benjamin Franklin: Constitutional Convention Address on Prayer, Americanrhetoric.com). He is directly quoting Jesus Christ, when he

The Bible is arguably the most important and influential book ever published. People consult the bible to become more like Jesus or make better decisions in their life. The bible instructs people what not to do, for example the 10 commandments. Plus, the bible contains information on what people should do such as; love your neighbor and evangelize. In the book 12 Years a Slave, Tanner one of the slave owners, uses the bible to justify whipping his slaves. However, William Ford a different slave owner Solomon works for, uses the bible to teach about other things such as leading a prayerful life. Solomon thru his knowledge of the bible questions how a pious man such as master Ford could hold others under his power. Throughout the book there is
Scripture opens with a witness to the act of God in creation. This fact points to us that understanding the world as the creation of the infinite-personal God is a fundamental starting point in constructing any kind of adequate theology. What is also clear is that it is important to get this understanding right, to the extent that we can do so. “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Gen 1:1 HCSB) (Akin, Theology of the church). But with the revelation of the speaking God who has told us what he has done should make us want to please him each and every day and to show him we love him to.
“Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of thy womb a reward.
In The Bible Among the Myths, John N. Oswalt, opens up his book by establishing his expertise in the subject of the Ancient Near East (ANE). Oswalt started his study into the ANE at Asbury Theological Seminary. After attending Asbury Theological Seminary, he went to Brandeis University. This is where his fascination with the subjects and Ideas of the ANE started to grow. Oswalt eventually went on to teach at Asbury Theological Seminary, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, and Wesley Biblical Seminary.
I love the passages of comfort because its telling you where you can look on the bible vesicle’s that will help you manage any situation you might be going thru at the moment. Not only sad or bad situations but happy and thankful emotions you might be experiencing at the time. Having God as our main priority in our life it’s a blessing because when we follow his path things will fall into place. At least for me that’s how it works.
The Bible is composed of many different stories and narratives. Each one of these individual stories contributes to the greater story of the Bible; sometimes called the Grand Story of Scripture. Within each Story, they have elements that define the setting, characters, climax, and themes. The overall Grand Story of Scripture contains these elements in each of the five divisions: prologue, epilogue, and three acts in between.
When studying the Bible, one encounters different details from seemingly identical narratives and passages. These narratives and passages are called doublets. In biblical scholar, Richard Friedman’s book Who Wrote the Bible?, he states that a “doublet is a case of the same story being told twice” with variations in specific details (22). Some examples of doublets in the Bible are two different stories of creation, the covenant between God and Abraham, Joseph sold into slavery and more. The doublet focused on in this paper is the stories of creation. Instead of being spread apart in separate books of the Bible or being completely intertwined, these narratives are told right after the other.
Jesus is the fulfillment of the prophecy of the Old Testament. The Bible tells us that He died for our sins. Now that our sins have been forgiven it is possible for us, through the belief that He is the Messiah spoken of in the Old Testament as well as seeking forgiveness for our sins, to reach Heaven upon death. But how was sin introduced into our world? Adam and Eve had one job. God told them not to eat the fruit of one specific tree in the Garden of Eden. Adam and Eve could quite literally do anything else that they wanted. Here’s where it gets complicated. Despite his omniscience, omnipotence, and omnipresence he took one thing out of his control. He gave us free will. Don’t ask me to explain the contradictions because I can’t. But because God gave us the free will to make our own decisions, Adam and Eve were able to make the decision to eat the apple upon being tempted by the serpent, Satan. Satan appeared and began to tempt Eve into eating the fruit of Eden.
The Bible is the best-selling book of all time, and with good reason. For the stories written in it have changed the way many think and even believe when it comes to the power greater than this world. The Bible holds very specific opinions on things such as slavery, who humans should treat each other, and ultimately social justice. It has been one of the most important foundations for allowing social reform to occur in modern day history as well as the history of the whole world. However, it is forgotten in history class how prominent the ancient texts have changed the people. When looking at the history, it is discovered to be the strength of great people who have used its wisdom to bring about a change for those who could not do it on
The King James version of the Bible affected many things and had a major impact on society and the English language. It was created by King James to benefit and fill a request given by the puritans to King James. It took seven years to write and it became the English standard version of the Bible. The King James version includes a lot of formal and poetic language to describe stories and events in the other versions of the Bible. It taught the Bible in a different way making it easier for some people to understand and believe in the stories and truths of the Bible. This version is the most influential version of the Bible. It is also the most referred too and the most popular for many groups of people. Overall it is a descriptive and creative translation that combines truth with poetic art and beautiful language appealing to many different groups of people.
The Bible is actively used in daily life as an ultimate symbol of power and importance, it is read from at special occasions including weddings and funerals and in courts of law – people must swear on the Bible to tell the truth. This shows that the Bible is widely respected by Christians in daily life and by non-believers in certain ways too.
Created by Johannes Gutenberg, The Gutenberg Bible was the first mass produced book through the use of a moveable printer. Known for its artistic Latin writing, the Bible only has forty-nine copies remaining, one residing at the Harry Ransom Center at The University of Texas at Austin. The Gutenberg Bible exhibits religious qualities from the message, directly from God, and the original purpose of the creation of the Bible.
The first 39 books of the larger work called the Bible, is called the Old Testament. The Bible itself is arguably the best selling and most read book of all time, yet it’s well known to be quite challenging to read through and understand. The Old Testament portion of the Bible, notably the most difficult portion of the Bible for most to study and follow, yields 39 books from multiple authors, and spans over 4000 years of crucial world and church history. If that were not enough to take on, the Old Testament comes our way through multiple styles of authorship and formats, including but not limited to, books of history, law, proverbs, ethics,
